I will never understand people's obsession with DFA. Good to get players in for DEPTH but people suggesting that we target certain players in DFA for a best 22 spot have lost the plot.
With list sizes reducing this year I think some of the DFA will be better than most people expect and I don’t particularly rate the bottom half our 22 and we’re fairly light in specific roles like key position players and crumbers so I wouldn’t be opposed to getting
DFA.

I’d trade two first round picks for pick 2, but if the price was three picks I think we’d get better value by taking them to the draft. Unless someone slides I also wouldn’t trade up to one of Essendon’s picks. From my limited knowledge it seems pretty even from 10-20ish.

That Geelong defender (can't think of his name) was a DFA in 2019 and AA in 2020.

Need KPD depth. Hopefully just a 1year deal on 200k. If it’s that I don’t mind.

But knowing Collingwood they’ll sign him for 3 x 350k 😔

As a DFA I think the Club sees him pretty much a Depth Player.

I thought a DFA only got 1 Year Deals?

That highlight reel is decidedly vanilla. Jordan Russell Mk2.

Given the lack of 2020 exposure for the Victorian boys in particular (who as we know make up the largest % of players drafted) I could make the exact opposite argument that this unique season will separate the very best talent spotters from the rest and greater opportunities than normal will present with the later 1st round picks we already have (and could add to by draft night) for those recruiters with the best ability to project what a player might become rather than how they're currently perceived based primarily on old 2019 form.

Agree -in this draft the teams with the best scouting resources will rise to the top.
As others have said, that might make the current rankings far less reliable.

Disagree. How much we paid for pick 14 is irrelevant to its current value and potential use for us in the future. We need to work out how to best use what we now have, without clouding opinion through still trying to view it as Stepho and Treloar. Because it no longer is that, its simply the 14th pick in the ND, with a set number of points attached - that's its value.

It’s a very logical thought - but there are huge rear vision mirrors on this board that will not let that issue die.
People are still complaining about Shaz and Freeman FFS.

McCartin, Boyd and Schache.

All described as generational talents by at least one person I'm sure prior to being drafted.

All recent reminders that cashing in all your chicken eggs for one much larger could turn out to be laid by a goose that isn't golden.

While it's fun and fine for all of us to discuss endless trade scenarios at the end of the day it will be how Hine rates this draft and the individual players within that will decide the strategy he believes will give us the best outcome on draft night and it's an almost impossible task for us without knowing this mindset.
