Daw as a KPD? I'd take him and Jetta - not familiar with Gleeson.

Also like Woolers

Daw I only see as relevant in defence with people quick to forget exactly how great he was in 2018. In his senior games this year he was misused and we didn't get to see him where he can play capable footy.

Ruck or key forward Daw is a hard no.

I’d much rather get some games in to Keane than bring in a busted up Daw if we’re looking to move past Roughead. Yeah, his debut was disappointing, but he showed promise last preseason and should be given opportunity ahead of a 30 year old DFA who’s ‘serviceable’.

Will Keane be good enough? Along with Kelly, and Kelly should be a key defender rather than a key forward, they both need to put in the work and improve to a level where they're worth awarding senior games to.

If either/or kill it during preseason, then I'd be open to seeing them for a stretch of games and see if they can make a regular spot theirs.

What is wrong with you people?
Complain all the time that we should be giving the youth a go then every delisted player mentioned, people want to bring them in.

Jetta, Pittard, Trengove etc. Delisted for a reason, too old and cooked.

Let's stick to the youth plan. There are a lot of gems in other leagues, just gotta get off your arse and find them.

e.g Mihocek, Collins etc
I agree on Pittard and Trengove but we haven’t had a player like Jetta for a while nor do we have a player that projects like him so I’m happy for the club to pick him up to give some variety to playing list.

Delisted players are delisted for very good reasons, best known (and not always disclosed) by the clubs that are delisting them. Without exception, they are all flawed in some way(s), whether it be a question of age, speed, attitude, injury, skills, etc.

The idea that there are hidden gems amongst the delisted players is nonsense. At best, there may be a limited roll player that might fill a gap in a particular side but that’s it. If they were really any good, they’d have been traded, not delisted.

IMO, the only teams that should contemplate picking up multiple delisted players are GC and GWS, who both have exceptionally young and inexperienced squads and might need a few old heads to help guide the youngsters. I will be very disappointed if Collingwood adds any more than one delisted player to our squad.

(But we should delist a few of our own - Wills, Tohill and Appleby.)

They can’t be fully discounted though, especially the younger ones but agree that they should probably be proving themselves at the lower level to get another chance.

IIRC Sam Menegola was delisted by both Hawks and Freo before proving himself at WAFL level to get another chance.

As there seems to be most years, there are opportunities among those delisted.

As DFAs I'd take Majak Daw, Martin Gleeson and Lewis Jetta in a hurry with a view towards all three being best-22, and at least incremental improvements on the poor last 1/3rd of the best 22.

While as considerations Toby Wooller and Noah Gown intrigue me with their scope to improve as still young key forwards with Wooller lacking opportunity and being a combo KPF/mid and Gown let go far too soon as either a key forward or key defender who was far from awful in 2019 in the VFL, needing a couple more years to develop. They're guys I'd do my due diligence on and look at adding to the VFL side.

Could Wooller play mid? Thoughts? He seems to have the tank, moves in traffic well...could he play a patty Cripps role?

Daw is a hard no full stop.

Martin Gleeson... are you serious?

Then we don't have any KPF's IF Kelly goes down back

Wooller can play some mid and did as a junior. Spent time in both spots. Big bodied inside, good endurance and has the contested side to his game. He's more a rotation mid than a permanent mid and has played key forward for Brisbane so he'll need to work on his midfield craft. At this stage he's more midfield shock value for minor minutes initially.

I feel like he still has further scope to develop, so he's perfect for VFL drafting to have under your nose and develop for a year and think about bringing in, in a year.

With reduced list sizes, he's not someone I'd be bringing in as my expectation would be a best 22 player and I'm feeling he's against the odds, but of still potential AFL relevance which is why I bring him up as someone Collingwood should at least in a VFL context at least be thinking about.

Yeah, seems to possess the rare cloaking ability.. Can shift through time and space on a football field without taking a bounce!
I was there.
He was electric and I think the umpires got caught up in the moment too!
Poor old Nathan Brown, (from memory) didn’t stand a chance 😂

Martin Gleeson... are you serious?

I'm not sure whether the public perception of Gleeson is, but I'm firmly of the opinion he would be a best 22 player for Collingwood.

Gleeson is a good intercepter, good 1v1 defender, reads it very well and can use the footy capably. He's an average to above average defender at AFL level. Plug-and-play into my best 22 for 2021. My view is he's a decisive upgrade on both Madgen and also an upgrade on Noble. Only Moore, Howe, Crisp, Maynard and maybe Quaynor if he keeps developing or a healthy Langdon would I rate in defence ahead of Gleeson.

Daw is a hard no full stop.

Roughead clearly better in your opinion?

I'd roll be tempted to take my chances with Daw. He'd be perfect for the Dogs and Eagles if I was to name the absolute perfect situations for him, as teams in need of a key defender who can shutdown rival key forwards.

Mihocek is an able enough key forward. De Goey, Elliott and WHE all play like they think they're key forwards. Cox plays forward. Cameron sometimes comes in for Cox when his form isn't adequate. Wilson has scope to develop and I'd be hoping gets games in 2021 as perhaps even a KPF/mid depending on where he appears most comfortable.

Gee whiz that is a ridiculously simplistic view on list management. Do you work at the club?

Yeah you're right. lets spend the rest of our salary cap on rejected spuds. At least we wont be over the cap anymore. But crickey will the game day threads be fun. If Treloar & Phillips copped it i can only imagine what the rejects would cop on this board.
So can you tell me how many players have made it back & contributed significantly to another club after being delisted previously?
I'd rather take a chance on a kid at pick 108 than give that spot to somebody who you already know their ceiling is low.

I'm sorry but he has never been a good 1v1 player. Madgen is better and Noble is better.

We won’t find out if we recruit old castoffs to play ahead of him.

It would be a neck and neck contest with Roughead for a key defence post.

A healthy and fit Daw for mine at his best is the better player, but the question of his condition is the relevant question to determine his viability or otherwise.

I view Daw more-so as serviceable than all that good at this age/stage, but I view him as more serviceable than I do Roughead who despite being serviceable in his first season with the Pies I found underwhelming this year.

Daw is never getting back to his fit and healthy levels of a few years ago when he was performing because he's now 30 and shattered his hip into 3 pieces..

I'm sorry but he has never been a good 1v1 player. Madgen is better and Noble is better.

Gleeson is very capable 1v1.

In 2017 Gleeson won 45% of his 1v1 contests he defended ranking no.1 of the 56 players to defend at least 40 contests. In the 12 matchups that lasted at least 30 minutes, he conceded just one goal.

*2018 Gleeson was hurt.

In 2019 Gleeson rated elite for spoils and finished with a defensive rating of +72% (the best rating of any player).
