Seems key defenders and ruckman are the best option for DFA's, break glass types.
100%... whether DFAs or not strictly so, but players acquired for a petty trade price cause they are on the verge of being delisted... full backs, rucks and general KPP utilities can be picked up cheaply each year.
Case study 1: Spend 4 years teaching Tristan Lynch how to ruck and he’s still mediocre... or pick up Pittonet for peanuts
Case study 2: Spend years developing Gault to then watch him become a decent WAFL player at 27. Or pick up 28 year old Roughead for peanuts
Case study 3: playing 20 year old Keane at full back before he’s physically ready or adequately experienced. Or picking up say Kyle Hartigan
