Fiorini is a name that myself and others have floated on here for years - you could see the potential if he cleaned up his disposal a bit

In his 9 games this year he averaged 26 disposals, 5 tackles, 4.5 clearances and 330 metres gained.

There is no way the Gold Coast let him go now

Can anyone recall if a player has nominated a club he wants to go to, entered the PSD and been picked up by a club that said player has not nominated?

Nick Stevensat the end of 2003 is the last one I can remember.

De Goey, Moore & Maynard, order of preference to keep next year?

Hypothetical, since we have no proper news for a few more weeks.
Moore probably #1 for me, given he's an AA lock when fit and part of the leadership group. De Goey needs to put in a whole season of what he was doing in the back half of 2021 to be #1

Wasn't that when both Collingwood and Carlton were chasing Stevens and neither club wished to give into PA demands and he went to the PSD without nominating a preferred club?
Stevens was only interested in Collingwood. He was a mad Pies fan. PA wouldn't deal. He went into the PSD and Carlton took him.

The Grundy contract will kill us for years to come.
I am curious about why everyone believes this hurts us so much. I don’t know the figures but say he is on $1M and ideally we would be preferring to pay him $800k it’s only going to be in the realm of $200k difference.

Surely no one believes he should have a really large reduction. Say it’s $200k, in itself that can’t cause us too much issue

Why wouldn't they, though? Is he definitely in their best 22?

Curiously wondering about the acquisition of Kreuger. We've flagged playing him as a forward, which I like, but can we play him in the same forward line as Mihocek and Cameron?

We still need that eventual Roughead replacement...
Keane and Kelly would be the two key defenders waiting in the wings I'd back in. Roughy has one more year at least left in him, which is one more year of development for the two of Kelly and Keane.

They may not make it, but I'm backing Leppa.

Could it be that the contract sets a bench mark from which all the top players at the club measure their contracts against, with the expectation they will receive the same and I'm sure you know the rest.

It’s set a horrible precedent for stars demanding top length and dollar.

Any star player (Moore, DeGoey) that wants X $ and X years, how do you tell them they can only have 800 over 3 or 5?

Grundys contract is a white elephant. You can’t have 3 players on 3 mil of your salary cap.

All successful clubs have players that take unders for the greater good.

There are multiple issues with it at the moment.

- Length of contract
- Dollar value
- Output

When the figure is brushing $1m and the above three points are valid, we have problems.

DeGoey, Maynard and Moore.

DeGoey types just don't come around often.
Maynard won't cost as much as the other two and I just love what he brings to the club.
Moore is a champion but defenders are not as hard to find or trade for.

It is not only the money (that is way over what he is worth) it is also the length of the contract that is the issue.

Grundy would be our best player by a mile over the past 6 to 8 years. The speed in which people here try to suggest trading our best players but then say players should "play for the love of the club".

I'd be keen to give McPherson a go as a dfa if it gets there. He's a good wing half forward link up player. Also Fiorini had been treated nearly as poorly as Lions was there, classy player.

  1. Moore
  2. DeGoey
  3. Maynard
But must keep all three.

3 different answers to the same question. Interesting!

Nuffies like to cry about it

The only problem with that is that Grundy didn't play for the love of the club because he wanted a million bucks for 7 years and threatened to walk to Adelaide

From memory Port wanted .Didak + a pick I think.

From memory he never chose Carlton, but I could be wrong.
