Just wonder if we will 'Upgrade" one of our vfl listed players.
I liked Wood early on in the season- inside mid,93kg, hard at it. But had a poor 2nd half of the season.

Nobody else really demanded to be on an AFL list so I doubt we’ll look at any of our own VFL listed players. You’d think we’d look at state league players that are ready to play as rookies particularly inside mids

This :).

Miles asked for a trade last year - no interest. Cellis given the opportunity continually watched younger players go past him - no killer instincts.

10 days of trade could have gone by and these 2 would have been DFA's.

We are not the same Richmond anymore.... and I am extremely happy about it.

Gold Coast have a lot of older players leaving or perhaps leaving. They are going to get another bunch of kids. They have to get some maturer bodies and Miles is one of those. That is why THEY suggested to the AFL that they get access to 3 x State League players - they even think they will keep two of them if not all three.

Perhaps they saw Cellis's only good game and think they can make a silk purse out of sows ear - who knows. They would be aware they are foot-soldiers. The thing is these guys have just left one of the premier clubs in terms of preparation and application - and they are not that. So even if Cellis can't play like play like a quality foot-soldier, he will be able replicate training standards, preparations and some application. I think GC are in for a shock, but they will be happy with Miles for a year or two

Trying to keep my personal feelings aside but I think Ellis will go well at Gold Coast. Will be interesting to see how he fairs with consistent AFL footy.
Could turn out to be a steal for Gold Coast.

I suspect that if he gets multiple games in the AFL where he isn't overshadowed by genuine stars he could learn that he belongs and play quite well. He isn't going to get that luxury at RFC. He's got players like Cotch ahead of him. So he'll always be that good VFL player.

Turn it up.
Couldn't perform with likes of Dusty, cotch etc in the same side.

Rather than a late pick for Stengle, would it be in our best interest to target a fringe midfielder from Adelaide Crows given our lack of depth in that department?

I remember Myles Poholke looked very promising in his draft year - Not sure how he has progressed since?

Nope, IMO.

Apart from potential sky high candidates our list is getting refined now with a bit of polish here and there. Off cuts unless true moneybag role value really cannot add value.

I thinking we really are looking for value players that can be the next superstars to be honest especially as we are looking for quality in the guts to give Dusty and Cotch a chop out since we are on a poor clearance stat record

Opposition teams like West Coast are getting strong enough and even the Pies assuming no injuries can't afford to carry Mark Athorn's on the list game time and expect to do damage at the back end of the season.

Have to take a Hawthorn attitude to these targets these days and not compromise on quality/potential anymore. If they don't apply themselves out the door and see ya later...

It's the pick swap equivalent of putting lipstick on a pig really, but if that's what they want...................

GC took Lynch with pick 11. They get pick 3 in a super draft, two players that will play immediately and a third round pick swap. They got a great deal out of it, we got a great deal out of it. Everybody is happy, we have a good relationship with the suns and we will continue to do solid business with them in the future. I like a win/win.

This :thumbsu:
Keeping a solid partnership and relationship with the suns is priority.
with the amount of quality kids that are looking to get back home every year or two, its a smart move.

Can someone say something nice about Ellis for me please?

I admire his ability to keep his jumper tucked into his shorts for an entire game

Not to be too uncharitable, but his first two years I thought we were on to a player. When he played seniors, although he didnt get a lot of the ball he seemed to hit targets with his beautiful left peg.

Lost a lot of confidence over the last 12 months after some good form in the twos. Just did not perform at senior level albeit he was never really played a mid which I think is really the only position he can play. Stewie might be able to get something out of him with some proper midfield time.

setterfield has nominated the navy giants
No shit he has they got the deepest pockets.

Carlton will never make it because they are paying that many unproven GWS players on $500k a year its not funny.
