Only old enough to have been following the dogs for 19 years...but Mary, mother of **** the 2017 squad is the best dogs squad i've ever seen...
Fair chance we will have 4 or 5 premiership players as depth waiting for a game...

Haynes is a gun. In fact, he's so highly rated that Pann says we send scouts to GWS games just to watch him, even though he's contracted for a couple more years.Ok Davis and Cameron are quality and Patton is good. The others are all untried or crap.
Do you really think the defenders are as good as Moz, Adams and Sid or the forwards as good as Boyd, Red, Cloke,mStringer and Crameri? If I were them aid be drafting some good young KPPs.
I dont hate GWS. But they are no scarier than any other team. Aside from their deep midfield they also have a lethal mix of smalls and talls as well as being efficient up front. I will say though that their backline is vulnerable. They are going to have massive problems if Cloke finds form and with the return of Crameri.I mean we lost to Fremantle at Domain and struggled against Richmond.
Every team has a few bad performances every year, even the best ones. I know we all hate GWS, but don't let that hate cloud your view. GWS have a very scary team and were within a goal of getting to the Grand Final where they would have played a team they destroyed three weeks prior.
It's too bad they were up against a better team in that prelim

Dickson played a close checking role on Shaw (and kicked a couple to boot) while they panicked when trying to rebound from their defensive 50. We beat GWS in every single stat bar tackles since they were chasing us.
Their strengths lie in outside run and disposal by foot to their lethal forward line. But we have a team that can shut down GWS. And for all Mummys plaudits, he still couldnt take advantage against Roughy
Ill take a pepsi max challenge, our mids vs theirs anydsy of the week. The only midfields, well players we should pay special attention too are Dangerfield and Josh P Kennedy.
Ckoke is the interesting one. He kicked 4 on GWS this year. And its no surprise that for all their high picks they are still yet to identify s key position back to psrtner Davis.
Scared? Nope. Dogs have shown time and tjme again thst we are harder at the coal face. And thats where we beat them. Add back in Murphy, Crameri and Wallis too.
The Giants should be scared of us. Mummy, Lids, Griff, Davis all have histories of injuries. And their talent is shallower and shallower every year. We will crush them next year.
Mark these words.
Not sure if they are scared of us but by god they would be jealous of our players. But for a goal they should have 22 premiership players on their list.
But they don't and we do
Hope we do it to them again next year!
Haven't GWS been doing this with Carlton for a few years? "We'll give you Plowman and Phillips cheaply if you take Sumner and Lamb". Whiley, Pickett and Palmer seem pretty similar. I reckon you could just about throw Smedts into this category too.The next step is for teams to attach assets to move players with salaries they want to dump.
I think you might have misunderstood me. I completely agree with you, and think we are a better team than GWS.I dont hate GWS. But they are no scarier than any other team. Look, I agree, I'm not really advocating us getting him strongly. If he's development continues as it has he's a bust. Picking the late risers has been good for us so far. Having said that though, Dunkley was a top ten pick early in his draft year, and then dropped. Could have dropped even further passed us if Dal didn't pick how good we was. So you never know.Given the development of our players I think it's a successful policy. Of the 18-20 year olds who develop faster than players of the same age, who better to suggest who can do that than the players who developed as 17 year olds against the players of the same age?
In other words, say Macradie developed 20% slower this year than the average of the top 50 picks. Therefore everybody else improved a lot, and he only improved a little, hence him sliding from pmick 5 to 20 or whatever. What's not to say that he will continue developing 20% slower than the draft cohort average next year, and the year after etc?

2 quick takeouts from the trade period for me:
1. We didn't even want to re-contract Stevens and hrovat. Amazing.
2. Salary is now more important than trade assets. Seeing guys like Cloke, Mitchell and Lewis (I actually think ahern is another great example) traded for nothing and guys like motlop and rockliff unable to attract decent offers due to salary is a big swing in the market place. The next step is for teams to attach assets to move players with salaries they want to dump.

Breaking news: Carlton axes Simpson
Carlton has sensationally dumped veteran Kade Simpson following the trade period, despite an excellent season. It is understood that the Simpson camp has been completely blindsided by the decision.
The club released the following statement on their website:
It has come to the club's attention that Kade Simpson has been fraudulently claiming to be a former first-round pick around the club. We have recently been informed that Kade was actually selected in the fourth round of the draft. We are deeply troubled that a mole has infiltrated our organisation. The club has decided that Simpson shall be made redundant, as he doesn't fulfil the most fundamental requirement of being a Carlton player. While we are an accepting club that is open to people from all kinds of backgrounds, there are some non-negotiables to which all players must adhere. We would like to follow the lead of Hawthorn, who have moved on a former second-round draft pick named Sam Mitchell in order to bring in two former first-round draft picks. While this news has rocked the club, supporters can be assured that we will not accept any behaviour that does not align with our club ethos, and we will not yield in our quest to provide you with a list of 44 former first round picks.
Aww. Son of a bitch! We all know who it was.

Take away the injuries and that leaves two examples and Stevens also had injury problems then went off the boil maybe because he wasn't getting a game. Honey was probably unlucky not to get more games but maybe has reached his ceiling. Webb regularly did well in the VFL, didn't do so well when played in the AFL but may have done with a longer spell? Williams, Smith and Lynch seem to be coming along well.A few posters have mentioned about our superior player development. I am never sure how much is due to the club and how much is natural and within the player anyway. Certainly a number (22) of players developed sufficently to win a flag but was that due to the club? Players like Dale, Honeychurch, Hrovat, Prudden (those 2 had injuries i know), Stevens seem to be at the same level they have always been under the same system. Recruiting and head coach seem to be our points of difference.
True, though we were unlucky to lose Roughy and the other injured guys who didn't play....We need to make sure we play a home final against them this year. It was a stroke of luck that cement head got knocked out, and SJ didn't play, and that was the difference in the end.
However we were so determined to win that final we would have found a way I think. Also that game showed a crack in GWS, they can't clinch the close ones, whereas with the exception of Hawthorn, we have every time.
Anyone who is upset with our results from the trade period should watch the interview with Jason McCartney on the club website.
Some of the stuff that I wasn't feeling happy with, I certainly felt a bit better about after listening to this:
