my thinking is Hamilton was retained only to be a definite delisting next year rather than adding another draftee being guaranteed at spot for 2 years. Next year will again be tight for list spots even assuming 2 of boyd, murphy, morris retire.

I like the fact we are going to the draft with three picks. Keep regenerating with young players and only trade for a certified gun (Hurley) or a player who can't break into a really good side ie Biggs and Hamling, which doesn't cost much.

The egos of Hawthorn and Geelong has made them go loopy this trade period. It's ok to chase guns when you are building for a flag, but when you are drifting away, time to bring in talented kids.

Essendon linked with Richards.

Essendon are linked with everybody. Fast becoming the new Collingwood.

'Sure, I'd love to go to a club like Essendon, you know, the culture and the way they treat their players is so good, how could you not want to sign up?'

DFA can sign for any amount right?

I suspect that who ever we go for as a DFA or through the draft, it'll be done on the bare minimum.

For example if Richard's asking price is too much than forget that.

We have big plans for 2017 and will be needing as much cash available as possible.

Fyfe trolling already, it's going to be a long year.;)

If Peter Gordon was smart he would sell photo opportunities with
the cup to help fund the Women's team. $10 dollars a photo.

How about not trying to make a dollar out of every opportunity and let the fans who have already given enough have one day without paying to do something?

They already hitting people for $20 each how much money does this woman's team need? Isn't it completely covered by the AFL and sponsorship money?

Is your sarcasm meter playing up too, mine does not work well

Everyone has their own opinion but for me of the kids coming thru who are yet to establish their spot in the 22, Williams and Dale are standouts.

There is general consensus on Williams, who has elite vision, evasion and kicking abilities.

Dale is a little different and it's important to remind your self that playing forward - as Dale has, does and will - is tougher. He has some great attributes and has destroyed vfl games like few can. His pace is better than average but not extraordinary. But he knows where to run and his decision making is of a very high standard. His athleticism is elite and he runs and moves like a footballer.

In the Vfl he can look like a world beater. His done well at AFL level but just can not get enough of the ball at the higher level.

He is potentially an A grade outside player, who will kick opportunist goals, create play, hit targets and take big marks.

What He needs to do - as many have identified - is get stronger to build something resembling an inside game - so that he can contribute when his team mates can't get it to him. If he does this he will jump past a few and make the grade big time.

Young Players with a really strong nAtural inside game like McLean can hold their own very quickly - and progressively improve.

Dale doesn't have that advantage - but if he makes it - it won't be a progressive thing - he will suddenly be a big influence in games because what he does is of a very high quality.

Could still be anything.

Agree with all of this. I think that Dale is a late developer in a physical sense. Once he gets a bit more biff through another preseason he will be a very good player. He is still young, but will make it IMO.

I would actually go for Richards with a late pick if available. we always do really well with sydney discards. bevo gets the rough stones and turns them into diamonds, a ala biggs!

Now with Prudden moving to
Rookies we have 4 list picks and 1 rookie. Of course makes sense for to get a higher pick than two we have to for in the rookie draft but could also be we could be going for a DFA.

So who are the top three now:

X.Richards
H. Schade
C. Cameron
A. Litherland
J. Grimes (Dawes with Cloke doesn't make sense?)
Barlow
J.Tippett
Green

Some rucks but not much quality. Spencer, King, Brooksby

Not sure if we want any of them?

Richards would be handy and I think we can now develop him. Was weak in GF but has the profile we want.

We have chased Schade in the past so wouldn't be surprised if we went that way. Cameron has a bit of young Morris about him and at GC we can probably give them some leeway for not progressing.

Tippet was OK in games he played but fell behind both Tarrant and Hansen - also have Thompson and Durdin coming through. But worrying that they would let him go with Firrito going and Thompson aging.

I used to really like Grimes as a player but has been a real call from grace and not sure why - he has a high level in him.

Litherland is a real goer - 192 is a bit in between but he is strong and mobile - not and ADams (should the Jessica Marais Flytrap not work) but if we have Collins, Cordy and Fletch - replacing Adams, Morris and Hamling ultimately - he may be a good Morris replacement?

Are these guys likely to be a better player than our 4th pick? They all could play if injuries fall their way so probably yes??? But they do need to fill an immediate need and perhaps only X does. Their could be some decent roughy rucks around at that pick - we might need that more.

Has it been engraved yet?

Ok, so some updates. Dally was in Perth interviewing Tim English during the week. We'd love to get him if he slips, otherwise, it's best available. But a ruck is top of the pile if we can get a good one.

Kieran Collins has been training his arse off ever since the GF, club loves him and he's seen as the future defender.

Adams isn't disliked by the team, he's just his own man and a different cat, and Bevo loves him but he's probably going home. His body is a temple and he's committed etc but the fit mightn't be awesome.

Roarke is a major part of the cog. Athletic beast and he reckon he's a freak going forward.

Brad Lynch is a different kid but he loves footy and is desperate to make it.

Hamling went only very partly because of family, but mainly because of a guaranteed longer term. Money wasn't far apart.

We're desperately trying to go back to back :)
