Connors is being careful to make sure he is not seen to be enticing his client to breach his contract. He is introducing the mental health element in case Jake refuses to go back. Connors can then say they've always acknowledged that Jake is under contract but the workplace bullying he's been subjected to by the club has created stress related mental health issues, therefore Jake will be unable to play until his state of mind is better.

Except he got to actually prove it.

We gave Cloke and Boyd time off for personal issues- pretty sure we wouldn't force him to train

If Essendon trade pick 25 for Saad, where does that leave us?

Of course - it's all posturing at this point. Connors can't get into hot water for playing the mental health card (as long as Jake's ok'd it) but he can't be seen to be implying that Jake will breach conditions in his contract.

This is highly entertaining, both of the people who are actually involved in the negotiation are holding their nerve...it's the player manager who's losing his shit and trying to control the narrative.

Spot-on! Connors is a vile human being if he uses the mental health excuse card. Toughen up!

It leaves Essendon with having to put their 2018 first round pick on the table or they don't get Stringer.

The player manager has the most at stake. It's hilarious.

Connors is right about one thing – this is our line in the sand moment.

Whilst I know they are different circumstances – think back 12 months as to how everyone tried to bully Carlton over Gibbs.

The disrespect the Crows showed was incredible – all they thought they had to do was convince Gibbs to nominate them and they were home. They informed Carlton via the media! They thought they’d wrangle a bit with with Carlton but still get the job done. Carlton stood firm – despite the media and everybody else telling them they had to let Gibbs go & that they were being unreasonable in asking for 2 first rounders etc.

Carlton kept their dignity, remained consistent all the way through and despite everyone trying to pressure them to accept the first rounder they didn’t budge. Carlton were magnificent and I know I have respected them a lot more since. When Carlton negotiate do you think anyone is calling their bluff? Do you think the clubs that decide they want to target Weitering or Cripps or Curnow will do it publicly and think they will be able to take one of their young stars away cheaply?

Fast forward 12 months … EVERYONE knows the Crows have come again for Gibbs – but it is all being done behind closed doors – no leaks – no funny buggers. Managers are not trying to bully Carlton, the Crows have completely changed their tune and are being respectful of Carlton – saying that he is a contracted player and there is nothing more to see here. They can negotiate in good faith without all the muck racking and mud throwing.

The Crow’s have seemingly picked up a few tips from SOS as well (despite being bashed by the media – what a surprise!) they got overs for an uncontracted player and seemingly are going to get a good deal for Cameron.

We took a public stand several times that we want a good first rounder for Jake –- nothing else is acceptable. If however he genuinely can’t come back and we knew this – then we have made a bad tactical error and left ourselves open to this.

Essendon supporters questioning the treatment we provide our team with players like Cloke and Boyd having mental health issues.

Don't know if they remember that they injected illegal performance enhancing drugs into their players, which led their greatest ever player being exited from the game, their captain losing their brownlow and several high profile players leaving the club due to the treatment they received.

Glass houses, stones etc.
