There’s nothing to say he hasn’t already signed, he’s the one big name left we’d be holding it to use the news strategically. I’d suggest if he has it probably gets announced in the lead into our first final or something like that.

To be completely honest the way he’s been playing the last few weeks makes me think he has signed and the complete buy in we’ve been requesting is there. I know you could argue that he’ll want to put on a good show for other clubs etc but I don’t really buy that, it’s easier said than done, the way he’s been playing is the way someone whose invested in their team & teammates plays. Not someone whose already half way out the door.

Lot to play out still, could go either way IMO.
Think the dude's a merc. He'd play well regardless.
He's also been playing selfish football more recently but that's just something I've noticed

That feels way too in our favour. Third rounders really are just steak knives in these deals. If we’re getting Bergman it’s more likely to involve the Amon compo pick then their 8. I really like Bergman but I think we need to get that 8 or Dunkley.
Dunkley and North’s Third rounder* (we don’t have ours but we have Norths)
for
Bergman and Ports First rounder

I don’t know much about Bergman tbh, but a good attacking winger is a serious need for us, I just can’t watch the likes of Hunter, Rourke, McNeil, McComb butcher the ball repeatedly and (Rourke aside) offer less than zero aerially. Wings such an important role and we seem to think we can just stick slow inside mids there and all will be fine?

Bedendo I really really like there though, and Williams too if he drops 10kgs and gets his run and dare back, Wtfs wrong with this bloke? He’s a flipping shadow of his former self right now.

The guy used to be one of the best ball users in our side, a beast one on one, brilliant in the air and practically un-tackleable (words xx) with one of the best steps in the game, right now he’d find traffic in the flipping desert

I’d do Dunkley, Future second and This years second for Bergman and ports 8.

There's no way that's gonna fly.

Bergman is a pick 14 who has played 32 games in his first 2 seasons, is 20 and has huge upside.

I'd say something like Dunkley and our 1st and 2nd for Bergman and their 1stt and 2nd, moving us up a few spots both rounds, is more realistic.

Keep Dunks, give him the cash he wants, play Darcy forward / ruck now and in the future and build our backline this trade period (Logue, Melican, Barrass).

Plus a new game plan.

They don’t have a second rounder.

They may get a late first / second from Amon compensation. You could substitute that in instead. I think your trade is too light for our side but it’s closer than my idea.

Ah fair enough. I'd reckon Amon will be an end of first compo, which is a nice trade asset.

Something like Dunkley and our 2nd/Norths 3rd for Bergman and the end of first compo would be in the ballpark I reckon (although trades of this type are very rare these days).

I must be the only one who is still confident in retaining Dunks
Me too. If we're wrong, we're wrong, but...

All talk of him leaving is Chinese whispers.
Nothing of any substance.

I think that, in part, is due to the old we-always-get-reamed attitude Dogs supporters have had historically.

History generally suggests that if someone hasn’t re-signed after this long that they aren’t going to, but you never know, not all players are the same and some like to wait until after the season has finished before making a call on their future. I’m not confident for what it’s worth, especially when he has asked out in the not too distant past.

Maybe he is doing a Dusty and waiting until the eve of finals to re-sign and give the boys some extra motivation and good vibes to win the whole thing.

**** Lobb off, with Darcy coming through and another pre-season under his belt, no need for Lobb, I'd be find running with a Darcy/Naughton/JUH fwd line with depth of Bruce/Schache.

Spend the money we'd throw at Lobb at Dunkley / finding another good defender.

I wonder if Norf will make a play for Dunkley, Cunnington is close to retiring and they need someone just like him. Just so happens they would have a WAR CHEST

The bigger issue I have is why a 25 year old star player approaching his prime wants to leave. Especially when he's played in two grannies and a flag in that short career.

If it's purely money then give him more money and cut a lot of the overpaid rubbish from the list. Who gives a stuff if you're technically overpaying him. Top load the list like it should be top loaded.

If it's another reason then the club needs to know what it is so they can address that too.

It's quite rare that prime midfielders who are just about to inherit large midfield minutes walk out the door in a consistent finals window.

Libba won't be around forever and dunks walks into that role.

Meh, players sometimes just want to go.

Lockett, Buddy Franklin!

What kills me is why we and everyone else are not in the market for Hopper…

Why does everyone just bend over and allow the Cats to trade their way into top 4 every year?!?!?!?!

Yeah Maybe! Wouldn’t be shocked if Clarko went after a young hawk like a Worpel.

I reckon they’ll go for Brad Hill and Tanner Bruhn too.

They’ll wanna build their midfield around JHF, LDU, Simpkin, Powell and Phillips.

Tigers firmly into Hopper also mate. He’ll end up at one of them which is annoying but why would a Hopper wanna go to a bottom 6 vic side if he doesn’t need to?

Plus we also don’t need him.

They have pick 1 them nothing until the 50s. Would be a bold play to trade away pick 1 into multiple picks to get the capital for Dunkley.

Clarkson does like 'known' quantities and did trade heavily as Hawks coach.
