The Western Bulldogs have made clear Josh Dunkley is worth well in excess of a single first-round pick as they prepare to secure Liam Jones on a three-year deal as early as Friday.
The Dogs are open to a range of scenarios in a trade to Dunkley to Brisbane that could include players and early picks from this year or the 2023 bumper draft.

One thing that Bevo said last night that has really made me happy (and I’m paraphrasing) is how we aren’t going to be a club that overpays players. Everyone will receive their fair share.

We simply can not be stuck in the mode where we rely on money to hold players. The opening fifteen minutes of the best and fairest, and the clubs approach to indigenous people is a step I’m incredibly proud our club has taken to create an environment where people will just want to be.

You can’t keep them all though and some will be motivated by their pockets. Geelong lost Tim Kelly, for example.
Anybody who applauds that opening paragraph would understand why can't be a club chasing the Bowes deal.

Just off the current topic. I wish we would have a crack at Ratugalea. Play him at CHB. He would be able to play on most of the monster key forwards and pinch hit in the ruck.
Is Ratugolea not just another Trengrove? i.e. jack of all key position trades, but master of none?

I didn’t mind him a few years ago, looked that kind of athletic ruck/fwd that could take a grab.

He just never went on with it.

For a late pick and not much salary cap wise. I reckon he'd be worth a punt.

Dunkley's a premiership player and Charlie Sutton medalist which McCluggage isn't so would hope we get some steak knives thrown in as well

But here's the problem with this time of year.

Brisbane: 'Dunkley wants to come to us. Here's a draft pick.'

Dogs: 'He's 25, a Premiership player and just won our B&F and is in his prime. Swap for McCluggage please.'

Brisbane: 'Here's a second round pick and some pissy fourth rounder for 2023'

Player swaps used to be common back in the 90s and 00s, but now clubs just want it all and aren't prepared to give anything away.

Dunkley makes them a lot stronger, so we're well within our rights to demand a bloody good deal else he can walk to North.

Little chance of attracting McGluggage even though he is a Ballarat boy. He's still contracted for another 2 years and would undoubtedly consider his chances of winning a premiership are stronger with Brisbane than with us.
