Yeah look I’m not saying he’s not a fantastic forward. I just think he’d be a better defender 🤷‍♂️
Once again I ask what evidence do you have that he'd be a better defender?
He's a poor decision maker, reckless in the air, and middling one on one. This is not the list of weaknesses you'd want from a superstar defender.

I appreciate there’s more evidence that he’s a more accomplished forward than a defender at this level. It’s an opinion I’ve formed because of the way I see him play. He reads and marks the ball so incredibly well. These were traits he showed in his first year. He’s improved those traits tenfold.

Everyone’s welcome to their own opinions as well I’m not saying keeping him forward is the wrong approach. What we are doing right now defensively definitely is and it’s a potential solution.

Yes he reads and marks well. My worry is what he does after that and who he smashed on the odd time he doesn't mark it.
His style of play is that of a power forward.

I’d rather he be smashing the opposition forward rather than our own forwards to be honest. But eh. It’s an argument that’s been done to death. I understand why he’s a forward but we need defenders. Just think it’s at least worth a shot.

I can understand that you think his marking prowess would make him an outstanding intercept marking defender and their is logic behind that.

The issue is how often do opposition teams bomb the ball high into our defence allowing someone to intercept?

The way we currently play means most of the ball coming into our backline is from fast ball movement with limited time for players to get back to support and it’s hitting players on the lead.

It wasn’t Sydney’s tall forwards that hurt us, it was their smalls who kicked 9.9 plus their midfielders chimed in. Their talls kicked 4.6 between them.

Against Brisbane Brisbane their talls combined for 3.5 between them. Their smalls 10.3

Our defence has issue defending but an interceptor won’t fix it. Game plan changes and playing defensive minded players in defence will fix it

I'd like to see JUH moved to defense to work on his work rate. He's not doing enough forward. Neither is Scache but he's slightly better than JUH at the moment and some time in defense to learn how defenders work might help his forward craft going forward.

If there’s no big name defenders worthy of trading our first pick for this year we just have to try and trade up and take Busswhatever.

English, Naughty, Jamarra, Darcy, Buss would be the makings of the first truly great spine we’ve had in years. Still time for our midfield to be in their primes with them too - Baz and West will be young, Dunks if still around will be a beast at 27/28. Everyone seems to write off midfielders at 30 when they’re constantly playing career best footy into their early 30s. Bont & Macrae will still be top 10 players to 33. Only big loss will be Libba and Adzy but I’m not as worried about covering him tbh - can find similar talents through FA most years.

Our A graders at either end in Cody, Dale, Daniel and Richards will be in their prime.

Bedendo will be an A grader, I’m sold.

More gaps will open up but none that can’t be filled so long as we have the spine and midfield sorted.

This list can compete for the best part of the next 6-8 years but we need to transition right now as in its current state, and under the current management is being pissed away.
100% this!

JUH will be an absolute gun. You don’t trade players like that.

Trading JUH is ridiculous I agree. We are starting to see the signs. His marking is strong and he can roost the ball (although his kicking has been wayward). A couple more pre-seasons and we will see why he was pick one.

I’d rather keep Dunkley and Treloar if possible, keep our midfield dominance. Ship Hunter off for salary space, we don’t need two of those defenders you’ve mentioned + Naughty & Keath - just the one of them.

McKay we should be going balls to the wall for. Bring in Broad as a FA, and Lobb.

Keath, McKay & Broad down back, Naughty, Bruce and Lobb up front, Darcy next in line down back and Jamarra next in line up front.

Bank on Williams and Bedendo on the wings, or even Dale like you mentioned which I don’t mind. Daniel & Ed two locks in defence, Cody & West two locks up front.
You are a sensible poster dftw, couldn’t agree more.

Rhys Matherson can't get a game at the lions. Was a prolific free kick winner earlier in his career although he was discouraged for flopping at the lions and goes the ball these days. Getting 40+ regularly in the VFL.

Could he be a good fit for beveridge game plan?
I'm sure with Zorko pretty much at the end, he'll get a go shortly.

Brisbane will need to replace one crap faux tough guy flopping spud with another

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to cause any offence. I'm not sure what Zorko has to do with any of this.

I was trying to offer a constructive post with an opportunity for the dogs. I feel the way Rhys plays, and I know he isn't a superstar, but I think he plays very much to the the bev game plan. He gets a lot of the ball and knows how to draw a free kick or "flick" it out when needed.

Yeah ok champ. Piss off troll.

Enjoy your straight sets again

Is it trolling to mention that the dogs gameplay is structured around ducking, diving and throwing? I would have thought that is more of an inconvenient truth?
Says someone from a team full of blatant divers. 🤣

I’m sure Schache is about to show us all why he was pick two as well. Just a few more seasons you’ll see
