Tom Barass is apparently worth an extra future first more than Dunkley? Since when?
It’s not far off. A contracted Dunkley is a first and a second but he’s uncontracted. A contracted Barrass is worth 2 mid first rounders. He might be the AA full back in the second worst side in the comp and is only 26.

Contracted, key position, and one of the best 3 players at his position.

Dunkley is an uncontracted mid who is maybe top 20-25 at his position.

Not sure if my sources are the same as the rest of the guys in here who have contacts, but I can confirm from what I'm told, that the club is exploring other defender options, including but not limited to Barass, this is being pushed hard by Chris Grant.

I'm also told we're making several lines of inquires about new assistant coaches as well, although sounds like both Webb and Spang' will be staying on as they signed more than one year contracts, I'd expect a shake up of what they're actually doing.

Easily, I think some people haven’t seen much of Barrass lately - he’s possibly the best key defender in the league right now, plus contracted for 4 years…

Dunks is a mid range inside midfielder - not even the best one at our club

If we were trying to find Hunter a new home for off field reasons, having him not in our best 22 would only make it more difficult.
I think you nailed it, Hunters form in the VFL leading into his recall against the Plastics was lack lustre at best. It's either let’s play him in the seniors for prospective buyers or let’s see if he needs to be in the senior team to play better? I didn't think he was as bad on Saturday as others although he didn't set the world on fire, he did run back defensively which is a strength. I'm unaware of what his off field issues are and how deep they run but would hate to lose him specially if nothing comes back the other way.

I don’t disagree with you, i really doubt that is part of MC selection process.

Bevo seems much more the type that if you’re out, you’re out and that is it!

Randomly, I can remember maybe 10 years ago in this forum that some poster with inside info had said Hunter’s attitude was questionable and that Dane Swan had commented some problem with it!!

EDIT: Ha - counter to my point above was the treatment of Jake Stringer in late 2017…
  • Dropped after round 17
  • Brought back in for last 2 rounds.

Maybe you’re right BHS 😀👍🏼

I hope we are all over him.

Surely we are, best realistic gettable defender on the market by the looks of things so surely we’ve got box seats, especially if Lobb comes too - makes a lot of sense.

Logues actually a really good partner for Darcy I feel, they’d compliment each other quite well. Jones at FB, Darcy CHB and Logue third tall who can play on a variety of different forwards, Darcy can take the super tall forwards, Jones take the gorillas.

Honestly all I want to see from our backline is some cohesion with not everyone flying, but instead the two defenders playing on the most dangerous forwards (whether that’s Logue, Jones, Keath, Gardner whoever) putting body on them in the contest allowing Darcy to float in and grab it unapposed.

We look to have possibly the best contested mark in the league in the future, at 210cm who has great skills off half back. Let’s use him there and turn our defence into a strength for us.

A backline of Logue, Jones and Darcy is extremely delicious.

we might realistically have 3x first round picks to use at the trade table this year, if we’re willing to part with a future first. Sounds like Grant is being super aggressive. Could be a fun trade period ahead

I’d be hesitant using any future first round picks in this draft period.

We’ve used all our draft credit on JUH and Darcy the previous two seasons. If we use this year’s and next on key defenders/Lobb, it’ll be 4 years without bringing in any top end midfield talent.

If we’re not careful, we could find ourselves in a similar position in 4-5 years that we are in now. Except it’ll be a weak midfield when all our top end talent are on their way out.

Next year needs to be midfield focused IMO. Apart from Smith, we don’t have a lot coming through.

Why? JUH and Darcy cost us mid level talent keep our mid round picks and its fine we got 2 free early round gifts

We spent both first rounders on them didn’t we?

If we do the the same this year and next, we’ve gone 4 years without any high end midfield draft talent?

IMO, it’s dangerous to do, particularly when the core of our current midfield group only have 4/5 years left.

No amount of BF mail would make me believe that we are any chance in hell of getting Barrass. I want to believe, but I don't think it's realistic in any universe. Logue is therefore an absolute no-brainer, but I look forward to him going elsewhere and us chasing pipe dreams before giving up and settling for Liam Jones as we often do.

Very much agree. Also worth noting that Bev's best years have always come when we've had fresh blood going through the midfield. We desperately need an early draft mid in the next two years.

We did but realistically KPP are harder to find and we've got a CHB and CHF for 15 years and if you develop and scout well you can find mids in the 2nd round

Anyone else think it doesn’t matter who is down there if the system we play doesn’t change?

It's a fair question. The countering argument is to say that the systems will only change when the coaches have more confidence in the defensive capabilities of the backmen. Then it becomes a chicken and egg situation.

Agreed. Whoever come up with it should be waterboarded. Seriously, it's the most boneheaded strategy in my 33 years following this club and that includes the Macca/Rohde era.
