Depends I guess. If we’re a legit chance at Barrass I’ll pack Dunks bags for him. I still think we can land a Logue type with our first.
Jones & Logue should be enough, partnered with Keath, Gards & Buku who I’m still a big big wrap for.

It won’t be our strongest line but should be good enough if we fix our glaring issues. A midfield of English, Lobb/Darcy, Bont, Dunks, Macrae, Libba, Baz, Treloar just shouldn’t be allowing easy ball inside def 50.

If we can’t make it work with that midfield then whoever’s responsibility it is (currently Webbs) needs to go and we need to find somebody who can utilise it t our advantage.

Agree 100%. Something hasn’t clicked defensively this year - we are completely horrible in defending a ball from end to end and something needs to change asap.

We have just been lazy, you could see it on the weekend. Our spread from contested defensively is horrific and needs to be addressed over the off-season.

How much of this is by design though? We place way too much importance on our zone 10-40m from the player in possession that most of our midfield is wasted guarding grass in this range which is non-effective and the ball moves quicker than our players can so expecting them to get back and help out when they’re clearly instructed to take this positioning, and the balls flying over their heads with ease, is just unrealistic IMO.

Throw in 2 or 3 defensive players who are more inclined to get in offensive positions for the rebound than help out the defence.

And no defenders who read the play overly well (Red aside) to chop off these entries and plug holes. Cordy and Gards try hard but they have no natural ability to read the play. Very reactive defenders who constantly find themselves out of position - not ideal for our style of defence

Bont, Macrae & Dunks are some of if not the best two way runners in the game, I just fail to see how our midfield is breaking down so badly with these guys as the core

I don't think it is by design at all as blind Freddy can see it doesn't work. watch the work rate in he games we dominate like the St Kilda game compared to the 3rd quarter against Geelong and its very easy to see it's between the ears

Messy in the head of coaching staff messy on the field.

Run and gun offense can only work for so long till everyone gets exhausted

Thank god the interchange isn't being reduced
Agree but also run and gun affects the mentality of players whereby most will only consider offence and leave defence to someone else. The balance between offence and defence requires reconfiguration.

Re: Sammy Edmund, said that talks are ongoing between the Dogs and Dunks management, nowhere near a stalemate. We are frustrated at how slow things have progressed and would have liked him signed up. If he were a betting man would say he stays.

Not sure if it was Sam Edmund who recently said that the Dogs had put an offer to Dunkley and the Dogs had not heard boo from the Dunkley camp. The Dogs had heard nothing not even if offer was good, bad or anything in between

Now talks are ongoing?

WESTERN BULLDOGS

Tim English MIDFIELD $650,000 – $750,000

Jack Macrae MIDFIELD $700,000 – $800,000

Aaron Naughton FORWARD $750,000 – $850,000

Adam Treloar MIDFIELD $800,000 – $900,000

Marcus Bontempelli MIDFIELD $900,000 – $1,000,000

The Dogs have loaded up in the midfield like few others. When they secured Adam Treloar we all wondered how they were all going to work in the same engine room. And this season the imbalance has showed on the field as the Dogs have been caught short in the back half. Luke Beveridge’s men are set to nab defender Liam Jones after one year out of the game but is he enough to stop the bleeding? Rory Lobb is also on the way there to bolster the forward line alongside Jamarra Ugle-Hagan and Aaron Naughton, taking Josh Bruce’s spot. Maybe Josh Dunkley departs to Port Adelaide helping clear some money to nab Lobb, Jones and Fremantle swingman Griffin Logue is also up for grabs. The minted midfield, on its own, couldn’t get the job done this season.

Why are things progressing so slowly though if that’s the frustration? It’s a rhetorical question, I know you don’t know why.

I just don't buy those Naughton numbers, he signed his extension in April 2019. Unless its a backloaded deal which you don't really see with the first contract extension.

It’s not just this year. In 2021 it was the grand final, the Essendon game, etc.
Teams go inside 50 against us far too easily and score often when they do.

There’s probably performance triggers which he would have hit everyone of involved too.

There’s no way his manager signs him up long term off his 2018/19 unless he’s being paid very very well, would be crazy otherwise.

I hope we’ve been paying him 700k+ as if he goes to the market next year he’s getting 1.2 and if he feels he’s been underpaid for the better part of 4 years well that’s not good for us

Sam Edmund in some clip posted on the North board said Lobb has wanted out for some time, even before this season, but not as adamant as others where he ends up. So maybe not the fait accomplis everyone assumes coming to us. Although I believe Clarkson may have hinted in recent comments that most FA moves and trades are finalised months out, and the "haggling" in the trade period is only for show. Qu'elle surprise!
Edmund also indicated Logue is still up in the air, may stay, but unlikely given what they're offered him, wasn't game to specifiy a destination though.
Interestingly adamant Jackson is gone from Melbourne, and has been for a while, but Eagles still an outside chance to land him. Which may affect us indirectly re Lobb and Logue (or "lock and load" as I will refer to them as if they come to us!)

Interesting that both Lobb and Logue are WA-born, but both likely heading east. Naughton is happy east, although he has a significant Victorian connection, JJ looks settled here, as is Englsih, at least for the moment, and Garcia too.

I wonder what is so appealing about our club that WA products for decades have been happy to move from Perth to call VUWO home?
