Saints supporters are saying Billings is off to Carltank
And Carlton know how to make moneyball moves. He's a proven player that can kick goals and play that outside role. Blues have suspect forwards after Curnow that rarely can kick enough goals a game.

If he can get his body right I agree but has only played 3 and 8 games in his last two seasons.
Yep.
And we're worried about paying Naughton & English $1m each but have less reservations about paying a fringe guy half of that who can barely get on the paddock.

We have Williams, Scott, Pooulter and Baker to cobble together a couple of wings out of (assuming Roarke isn't extended as well).
And we've interviewed outside mids to draft as well so a development pipeline becomes apparent.

He would provide marginal improvement if he could get on the paddock but if it means we will struggle to pay Naughton/English/Marra/Smith, iI'd rather hit the draft for a base salary kid for the list spot he'd take up

Poulter, Baker, Scott, McNeil, AJ - be it on the wing or up fwd, Billings would be a clear upgrade on all.

He may not be tough, but like Lipinskis role for Collingwood over the last couple of years, you need skilled decision makers who can hit a target and execute riskier kicks. Easy to focus on flaws but perfect players don’t come cheap.

Our team needs a few things but if we want to catch up to the good teams we need better users in the squad with a body of work behind them. Not vfl castoffs or projects. Poulter or AJ may come good but I would much rather they have to bang down the door at vfl level than be gifted games because we have nobody else.

Coffield is just a matter of officially nominating is how I understood it, so all but locked in.
Billings is still a long way out and any move would be dependent on him willing to smooth out his contract with the hope of getting more game time.
Good news Coffield should be a good pick up and in the right age group. Billings not fussed either way

St Kilda have good wings. Much stronger than ours, wangerneen, wood, hill and also likely Liam Henry. I’m happy to take a moderate down ground on a couple of positions on the field. We can’t have the best of every position.

Billing’s on a wing is better than anything we’ve got. Billing’s won’t play midfield. The only issue I have is that he doesn’t make us tougher.
Better than Macrea, Smith or Daniel?

We have the players. Bovo would probably play Billings in the forward pocket.

If there is any truth with that SEN Article that Jack Billings is increasingly keen to leave St.kilda. You would think he would accept our offer and smooth out his contract

As a wingman he is better than all of them imo. His faster than Macrae and Daniel.

I’d back him to work harder defensively and use the ball better than smith on a wing aswell.

Do we really another outside winger/ half back type. We recruit 2 or 3 of these guys every off season.

What we really need is a hard nosed small defender. We have no one who is any good at this role. They are crucial.

Look at how much Brisbane having no Bobby Hill match up cost them?

Billings has had games of 30+ and at least two goals five times in his career, imagine one of the wing options at the club right now doing that once. He's the type of player who could be a complete bust or become a bargain buy.
Only have to look at Pies recruitment last trade period. Not stars but good role players to upgrade on their edges to get better.
I see Coffield and Billings as just that potentially for us.

I thought Billings was more of a half forward?
I agree, that's where he has played most recently and where dogs would play him.
He has played and prefers to play on a wing.

My greatest issue with Billings is his inflated sense of self and that probably gets in the way of him taking a pay cut.
His management went to clubs this year and last expecting a pay increase and instead got offered the same money over more years.
We aren't the only club to offer him a ticket out of St. Kilda and he would have to spread his money over 3 years at those clubs aswell.

Personally think we need better defensive role players. Not a big fan of Roarke Smith, actually think we've missed him when he was in his 2021 form and not injured. Losing Wood also hurt us as he was a reliable one on one defender that could play small and tall. At least Coffield could help in this regard. Still not convinced Billings is the right option for us especially with that contract. If he came a bit cheaper sure.

Would have loved to see Hamling back at the club. Bloody disappointing.
The idea of getting him back is somewhat romantic due to 2016 but the bloke has played a grand total of 6 games across the past 4 seasons. We need someone reliable, not someone who'll likely spend the majority of time in rehab if recent history is anything to go by.

We say as we target Coffield & Billing’s 😭
