Our raw number of talls is fine, outside of round 1-2, no we shouldn’t have played Keath, Bruce & Gardner together that’s just madness but everyone could see that except our coaches.

Our talls are not the reason we can’t defend the ground or move the ball. Taking out one tall wouldn’t magically make a difference. Naughtys the best ground ball/pressure tall forward in the league so doesn’t even count & Marra is far above average.

If anyone thinks removing a tall from either or both fwd & def 50 is going to magically fix our ball movement & ground defence issues, they’re kidding themselves - our issues go a lottttt deeper than that

But here is where you are wrong, their 2 rucks rarely played forward.

Evidence Grand Final, Cameron 59% Game time Cox 67 % game time. At best a quarter of the game. They rotate off the bench.

Mihochec you can call a tall as much as you like, same height as Bont. He is a mobile medium, something we lack unless Bont goes forward

I actually watch the games, so I know Brody Mihocek is not a medium forward. And neither is Bont. I’m not indulging this rubbish and I was already clear about that.

Collingwood sacrificed rotations to accomodate two tall forwards and two ruckmen. That should tell you something that you’re evidently not getting.

I really was hoping to churn through this thread to extract all the latest goss with a minimum of fuss, but it seems like roughly 45% of it is you interminably taking the antithetical position to pretty much everything under the sun and dying messily on a series of hills to defend each of them in turn.

Those 4 per game are in our forward line, mostly throw ins and the odd ball up. It’s a total change in his role.



Ugh. Yes, McStay missed 12 games through injury. Whenever one of their preferred four was out they brought in another tall in Frampton, or Johnson. And please don’t even try and tell me Johnson isn’t a tall because he’s listed at only 193cm or some other such nonsense. He played as a tall forward and rucked.

Collingwood ran with four tall forwards/rucks as their preferred setup all year. It’s the structure they took into each of their finals.

Collingwood also ran with a structured game plan, cohesion and players knowing their role which was clear to them and defined. We ran out with hope and confusion.

Our biggest issue is not the personnel that take to the field (yes that can get better) our biggest issue is lack of game style, we are tactically inept, we don't develop players well and confusion reigns throughout the football department.

I took McDougall's comments on English and Naughton as yes he is doing his job to maximise the $ but also a warning to the club to sort their s**t out.

The number of talls is totally irrelevant.

It is whether they have speed and skill and can pressure.

Naughton is good in both areas, why I would also like to see him Half Back or if forward high forward to use those strengths. JUH has the speed and skill just needs a bit more strength and commitment to the pressure.

Lobb could play second ruck but lacks pace and pressure.

None of Keath, Bruce or Gardner have pace and certainly not the skills required to attack from defensive transition (Bruce did forward before his ACL)

Darcy moves well for his size and is good below his knees with good skill. We just need patience. Croft is actually a need as we are alot thinner on quality in the big man department.

English is slowly building his contest. He is still 2 years away from full maturity of his body for the role, why he is a must keep.

It is not height that was the issue it was what Lobb, Gards, Bruce and Keath don't bring to the table other than being tall that is the issue.

And also watched the pies a lot this season including live if that makes someone an expert and Pendlebury, Nick Daicos, Josh Daicos, Billy Elliot, Darcy Moore, Sidebottom, Jack Crisp, Bobby Hill and Jordy De Goey plus a gameplan might have had a bit more to do with their premiership than running 2 Key forwards as you call them with occasional back up from the second ruck

Everything I've seen from Baz since he was drafted suggests to me that he is not someone you want to invest a large portion of your salary cap on.

What is the risk? it isn't 1990 anymore ruckmen aren't getting injured in centre bounces every week in fact they're very rare nowadays,

He is playing football there is a risk with anything he does

The point is that the risk is higher - contesting at the centre bounce means you are going up in more ruck contests and therefore increasing your risk.I get that he is flys in other contests etc, but the point is why? Why would you want your best forward to be contesting the centre bounce in the first place?

When I go off road I take my mountain bike, not my Bianchi road bike.

Everything I've seen from Baz since he was drafted suggests to me that he is not someone you want to invest a large portion of your salary cap on.

I get why the off field circus around Baz makes him seem a bit of a flaky player to rely on, but his on field record is pretty damn elite for a young player;

• 103 games for a 22yo is a big tick for resilience/reliability.
• Making the AFL 22 under 22 4 times shows consistent high level performance relative to his young peers,
• Coming 4th in the 2021 Gary Ayres medal speaks volumes for his ability to fire in big games (the top 6 were Macrae, Oliver, Petracca, Baz, Bont, Gawn - fair company).

That's a solid resume for any 22 year old to lay claim a higher range salary.

Great news on Naughts. Re sign JUH and English, take Croft in conjunction with Darcy developing and despite it all we will certainly come away from this Trade period in front.

FWIW except for the occasional boundary throw in would not play Naughton in the Ruck, allow Darcy and Croft to develop in this role and replace Sweet if that deal does go through

Spot on, he’s coming off a bad year in a seriously underperforming side - would be madness to trade him now.

If he wanted to go I’d want Hawks pick 3 & future first to consider it, otherwise just hold him a year I’d say his value will likely increase again. Worst case scenario you get Hawks first rounder at the end of next year which will likely be top 5 again.
