At present, Williams' form would warrant only a 2 year deal. To even consider a 4 year deal would be laughable.
Yep his disposals and goals dropped right off 2nd half of the year he has shown his level now which isn't that high if he is still in the b22 by the end of that contract we are in trouble

Could we entertain trading Bailey Smith for Hawthorn's Pick 3? Pick 3 offers a plethora of excellent prospects: Duursma, McKercher, Watson, Curtain etc. Of course, I'm not advocating this and the latest news indicates he is staying. However, Pick 3 is a tantalising opportunity.

100% would but they will not offer that

My biggest concern is that north will get pick 3 for mckay and McKercher will be gone. Curtain will definetly be off to the eagles. Means Duursma or Watson. Are they better prospects than Baz?

Strongly disagree. Arty seems like a great kid but he’s nowhere near the level of Henry.

Arty Jones had 99 touches in 13 games.

Liam Henry went 20+ touches in 9/16 games this year. Completely different players.
Compare them at the same age.
Henry has more goals (0.6 vs 0.3 ave), Arty double the tackles, disposals are fairly similar (7.6 vs 9 average).

For the likely asking price I'd be looking elsewhere.

Geelong seem to be in the box seat. If we move Baz on for pick 8 (9 after the Walter bid) to Geelong, this is what history suggests we're able to get:
2022: Clark, Ginbey
2021: Amiss, Gibcus
2020: Cox, Perkins
2019: Henry, Tom Green
2018: Tarryn Thomas, Chayce Jones

How many players there would we swap for Bailey? Tom Green from GWS perhaps? Archie Perkins is quality when he's on, but like young players his best and worst are significantly apart.

We're going to be hard pressed to get a player of Baz's ability if we trade him out.

That gives us one option - keep

Green and Thomas were more or less sliders due to their academy/nga status though

the club was obviously gambling that Gardner would continue to improve after a top 10 B&F finish. Hence locking him in for cheap…or by god do I pray that it’s a cheap 3 years. They would have been worried about Gards continuing on that trajectory and upping his value by the end of this year. Not that I agree with the approach but I can rationalise it.

In hindsight we pumped Gards up too much for marginal improvement, and he pretty much slid right back to what the naysayers claimed he was.

He’s basically a D grade Liam Jones, and Jones will miss games due to his age. Gardner will get his chances. You don’t sign a kpd for (essentially) 4 years at prime age intending them to be vfl depth, or get jumped by a 21 year old cricketer…alas.

Gardner as Jones’ backup, Keath as JoD’s, I’ll be ok with that. Hoping that Jones and JoD play every game, of course.

Dogs midfield with Tom Green would be unstoppable

him and libba would kill themselves fighting over the contested ball

Was listening to SEN this morning. Sam Edmund said Lohmann remains unsigned and expects the dogs to be interested as we wanted him as part of the Dunks trade.

However I didn’t gauge a lot of confidence in the statement, rather a throw at the stumps.
Cleary read it on here

I would be more interested in Dylan Stephens than Henry. Think he could make it on a wing with his speed and raking left leg. I read that he is un contracted.

Paul Connors on gettable show (AFL) saying Baz will not be moving and will be at the dogs next year. Seemed pretty genuine, he himself saying the more he says it the more people just don’t listen and want to read into it because this trade period is boring
Over to you Caro

Connors is pretty good with protecting his players

Barely does he openly say they want to be there next year and then ask for a trade

He used to be a lot more of a smile ball (think back to 2017 with Jakey Boy) but he has evolved into a great operator and he always does well for his players.

The doco about the players agents was really good and an interesting insight on how they operate for the player
