They also need to hit 95% of the cap floor so it would be heavily front-ended too
This is what always makes me laugh when the clickbait boys like Korn get all angry over these sorts of contracts.

Everyone has to pay 95% if you are struggling to do so you front end and overpay some guys it's not that hard to grasp

Aiden Corr is bog-average and north offered him $600k pa as a FA.
Kornes is just a clickbait generator

Still Esava hasn't shown anything to warrant money above the average AFL wage. He'd be biting your hand off for $500k p.a. average over the life of the deal. Even front loaded the money insane.
You can only get what is available,

I think he is poor and not worth it as well but they need an extra tall so Sicily can play loose more frequently

Do you think McKay (the North type) has shown enough to warrant his asking price? 800K plus?

That isn’t his asking price and no club will pay him that over the duration of his contract.

He will get 650-700k in his first couple of years and it’ll average out to a 550-600k contract over the duration of it.

So Williams is our only regular senior team player left unsigned. Not counting Duryea who may or may not be offered a 1 year extension (I prefer not). We could speculate that both club and player are standing firm on their respective offers which is most likely over length of contract. I would hope the club continues to stand firm. In recent seasons Williams has been a useful but average player. Thoughts?

Williams has had one very good season and it was two years ago. Average or below average generally. Been given a very good ride by Bev and pretty much never is in danger of getting dropped.

However if we lose him our already terrible wing stocks get worse. So his management would be trying to leverage that. But I’d rather not overpay him - his production would not be that hard to replace.

I think 3 years is fair. Amount - they have to factor in what we’ll be paying Marra, Naughts, Tim and Bont over the coming years…we can’t let ourselves get in trouble by getting squeezed by average role players.

It pains me to say it as I was fairly bullish on Williams from early on, but he's a long way from the player he was in 2021. I don't think he works hard enough to play on a wing, his kicking and decision making isn't as good as it was, and while he can drift forward and kick the odd good goal I don't see him making it in the forward half. Given Richards has overtaken him in defense, and my guess is he's not getting a HBF role with the players we need to fit in there, I don't know what his role is going forward - and we shouldn't be dishing our multi-year contracts even at average money to someone who's no guarantee of being in the best 22/23.

I'd be pretty disappointed if he went somewhere else and was revitalised in that defensive role he played well in large parts of 2021, but I can't see it with us.

Our wing stocks don't get that much worse if we lose him numberwise sure but overall talent wise no,

He really isn't much better than Baker/Poulter/Scott, Gallagher showed a lot of promise in the 2's and hopefully Bedendo can stay fit.

We can then also make it more of a focus in the draft as well

3 years is too much for what he has produced and he isn't that big of an upgrade on what we already have to lock him in longer term

3 fringe players have asked for a trade

2 players have been informed they won't be at the club next year (fringe)

Think Dogs are waiting for the VFL finals to be over before they post the delistings

Since Hannan out for the year, made sense to make the post

Sweet would surely be one of the fringe players that have asked for a trade

I'm going to have a guess

Sweet
Crozier
Buku

McLean
Roarke

I'd also say that it's certain that Duryea will get another one year deal. He's in the leadership group and played every available game in the seniors this year. The game has passed him by but it's clear with a largeish amount of cuts that they'll keep him around for a leadership role at a minimum.

Do you know that he prioritises marketing over footy?
I don't know if he does, we aren't privy to that, But what i can see is that his field kicking has not progressed.
Clearly Smithy is not prioritising working on his weakness.

Too often Smithy just bombs it into the fwd line, he doesn't reliably hit any targets or lead up from the fwds.

I'm more concerned that players requesting trades means we're more likely to offer one-year deals to deadwood players like O'Brien & McNeil. We realistically need to cut 8-9 players but I can see the club going conservative and only moving on 6 or so.
Hopefully we can target fringe players at other clubs who might be able to come in play a role in the firsts or at least put pressure on the starting 22.
Baker and Poulter are good examples of players who weren't wanted at their previous clubs but were a position of need for us and were able to play a role.
I think we need to turn the list over more ruthlessly.
At the least bringing in new players might create a bit more energy around the team which has felt a bit flat for a while.
