Hello Eagles fans!

The embedded resources below are kept up to date by the trade board mods (as much as possible – we are human after all). Enjoy!

Keys you may like to sticky this post & move it to the start of the thread (so the sticky post doesn't rotate if a post is deleted before it), or copy it to your draft thread if you have one.

Time for this board to stop thinking we cannot draft a Vic metro player. Bottom line is we have done very well retaining interstate.

If the next 15 months is going to have convoluted posts about dropping back on the draft board to only get WA or VIC Country players, we might as well fold.

It's the even quality of the 2024 midfielders in the top 10 picks that matters. And yes some of those top ten are more likely to be a flight risk than others.

Point is you are getting a bloody good mid.

So why not land a highly rated 200cm CHB in 2023 AND a quality mid in 2024. By dropping 5-6 spots in 2024.

I’m seeing 4 elite mids at this point in 2024 and not 10

From the Cats Draft thread they are saying the club wants to focus on the 2024 draft.

They knew much more about the Cats list and draft goings on than I do obviously.

Well then North Melbournes offer would likely appeal to them with their 2 1sts.

I don’t think we can get close to any top pick without trading our future 1st unfortunately.

So being mid table - how are they getting A grade talent when they keep landing mid table. That has been the problem and why, like this year, they keep topping up with solid players only.
We finished bottom 2 three years in a row, then finished bottom 4, and have brought in half a dozen top tier players that don’t have any ties to our club or state.

Who knows what Essendon can do with a new head recruiter and the other off field changes.

They probably looking at Collingwood and finally understand that coteries and Old Essendon isn’t enough anymore.

Huge movement today in the blockbuster trade period with checks notes James Harmes (who?) moving from sigh Vic club A to Vic club B.

Exhilarating stuff.

Eastcoasteagle has actually seen Murphy play in person on multiple occasions - have you? There is so much more than highlights and stats when playing KPD. Are you aware of who he was playing on in the games you got stats from?

When Tom Barrass was captain of Claremont Colts in 2013, he ranged from 2 marks a game to double figures. It just depended on what role he was asked to play.

I would happily blow a teens pick for Murphy and I think Bazzo, Zakostelsky and Bazzo would make a great structure in the future. All three have a point of difference. And finding a 200 cm KPD is a must given the likes of the Kings, Wright, Thilthorp, Jamara, etc
Well no, I live in WA and only made the VC game + Colts. I'm all about role players which you can draft later on. Murphy was basically invisible in every Coates League game except against Geelong where he was good.

With TB & Barrass, we got lucky. If we could have predicted either outcome they would have been top 5-10 picks at the time.

Provided we finish bottom 4, which you'd think is a given, it translates to Pick 39-43 before priorities and bids.

More than fair, I'd think. Somewhere inbetween where Hawks fans and Eagles fans value him.
You’ve seen how many father son and academy kids are in next years draft?

Third round will be pushed back significantly further next year than this year.

Why all the talk of us splitting and Norf taking Harley?

Norf have 2, 3, 15, 21.

I wouldn't usually split top 5 picks, but McKercher and Sanders are flight risks. Norf already have a good midfield bunch and can grab another top line mid next year.
Why is McKercher a flight risk but not Reid?

From the ABC today...
There has been some talk that teams might be a little put off by the Tasmania of it all, but McKercher has been at pains all year to stress he is keen to head to the mainland and is determined to be a one-club player wherever he ends up.

Is Curtin really a likely top 2 or 3 pick for any club other than us? Every eastern states based article i have read on draft prospects during the season seemed to place him around pick 10 in terms of his ability and potential vrs the rest of the draft field. I don't think we can afford to have tunnel vision for Curtin and allow our fears of some other club taking him before us prevent us from accepting any good deals we get offered for pick 1 if we have decided that we don't want to take the risk with Reid and would prefer to split the pick.

Why are we offering Hawthorn anything for Brockman if he has already agreed to come via PSD? Do we think Hawthorn (or any other club) would be throwing us a bone if the roles were reversed? Need to grow a pair of balls and get with the dog eat dog mentality of trade week such as it is now.

norf board
If fans of the other clubs think that the AFL have gamed the system to get North pick 3, and are screaming about following the rules.

Then TECHNICALLY if North were to offer WC picks 2 and 3 for pick 1, the AFL should step in and veto it as theres a substantial excess going one way based on the Draft Point Index.

But no, they'd be perfectly happy to see us throw that at them.

That's a fair point, next year's draft looks like one of the most compromised ever.

It looks like we have plans to package up our later picks to nab another first rounder, so we probably want to avoid trading one of them.

The issue for Hawthorn is that the Eagles hold all the cards here. Brockman seems unlikely to go to Fremantle, and the PSD is a real threat. I doubt we'd entertain offering a future second. Maybe the future third plus a late pick swap.

Imagine the melts from the 4 paid up norf supporters when their club folds and is shifted to Tasmania
Come now Archie. There are lots of advantages to being a North supporter or fully paid up member.

1. You know every other North member.
2. You can hold a 100% attendance club meeting in a 1 room bedsit.
3. If you somehow get involved in a big game held interstate you don't have to worry about the flights being booked out.
4. The MCG (or Docklands) is a walk up venue.
5. Even though your season is over by the bye, you can look forward to the annual end of year handout from the AFL.
