Hello Eagles fans!

The embedded resources below are kept up to date by the trade board mods (as much as possible – we are human after all). Enjoy!

Why say North won't need to trade for Reid, then.

He's flat out saying the Eagles won't pick Reid, and he will be there for North's pick.
Because he hasn't taken into account that WCE might bid on Walter, which pushes Reid to #2.

Ergo: He's a complete moron or still coming down from last night...

Don’t have a link, they played parts of it on SEN WA this morning. Reid is rolled gold. Talking about building a list from the base up, turning culture round, doing the 1%ers etc. spoke about arriving at Perth airport for the U18 game was the first time he felt like he was somebody when he had 5 cameras in his face. No doubt well coached by Connors given he knows it’s all but certain he’s going to a team with a poor season but everything he spoke about pointed towards him thinking he’s landing here. This all marries up when you go back towards the middle of the year when the Pioneers coach (absolute legend) was talking about him getting around the club and what he contributes outside of his footy to the club, younger players etc. he’s got captain written all over him and if we keep the pick he’s without question going to take over from Oscar in a few years. I genuinely don’t think there’s an offer I’d accept to trade him. If North put their entire first round draft hand from this year on the table I still think I’d say no. Make him an Eagle ROB.

Isnt the question what is the best use of pick 1 or 2 in 2024?

And what is the priority for us to use pick 8/10 in 2023?

This 2023 draft is a draft full of talls, quality utilities but few top shelf mids. Its Reid and McKercher then........

2024 is a midfielders draft. First 10 equal to or better pure mids than McKercher I recall reading.

The first 5 ranked mids in 2024 are Vic Metron and Draper from SA. So our preferred mids in 2024 likely drop around 6 to 9. Not at pick 1.

Pick 8/10 in 2023 gets us a O'Sullivan or Murphy.

Pick 7/9 in 2024 lands in our sweet spot.
Finn O'Sullivan, Vic country pick 1 next year. Sexy football.

It's so true that the absolute elite players are worth their weight in gold. Remember how good Treloar and Shiel were at the Giants? Now compare their careers with Dusty, Danger, Bont etc. Those guys are good players, but they just don't compare. Some people say that we don't know how he will turn out, and #1 rarely turns out to be the best player. And as true as that is, sometimes there's a player who goes through the whole system at the top of the tree, and gets to the AFL and within a few years he rises to the top of the tree. If we're ever going to speculate on 17 year old do this, guys like Harley and Nick Reiwoldt are at the front of the queue.

North thinking they can only offer one of pick 2 and 3 is pure fantasy. They'll approach the Eagles with shit like, "we can get you pick 2 and 6, howzabout it?", to which I'm pretty sure ROB's response will be, "we're good. If you think Harley is better than #2 and #6, we do too".

Quality interview can see why ROB loves him we love our high character guys there is zero chance we don’t take him imo.

Excellent. This guy is constantly getting things wrong
This is probably why:

Hello
Hi, is that Ronan O'Brien? It's Sam McClure.
Nope, "Ronan" is away from his desk, but I'm his 2IC. How can I help?
There's a strong rumour that you guys are going to pick Curtin at 1. Is it true?
Sure
Is it because you really need a CHB over a midfielder?
Sure
Is it because Harley is a flight risk, and Curtin is a local guy?
Sure
You guys sure like those WA boys
Sure
So you wouldn't even split the pick to get Curtain? You'd just take him at 1?
Sure
So let me get this right, you think Curtin is the best player in the draft, no flight risk, fills an obvious gap, and you'll take him at 1?
That's it.

ROB: Who was that on the phone?
2IC: That clown McClure. Told him we were taking Curtin at 1
ROB: Lollerskates
2IC: He thinks your name is Ronan
ROB: Lollerskates, stupid campaigner.
Both: chuckle, snort, chortle.

We’re getting the Tim Kelly comparisons now from the Vic peanuts on Trade Radio in relation to Brockman. Acknowledging that he has genuine family reasons to return home but the Hawks should be dealing with Freo and West Coast even though he has nominated us.

Why is there never that rhetoric when a Victorian player returns home and picks a club? ****ing infuriating how they keep pushing that line anytime it’s a player coming to WA or SA.

Cooney has been fully Vicced since moving from SA as an 18 year old. Pushing the line that Reid doesn’t want to come to WA.

Why do you guys torture yourselves and listen to that crap?

They did yesterday actually.

Barrett was highly critical of Schulz pulling the 'family reasons' card then nominating Collingwood.

He actually said both Kelly and Brockman had genuine reasons for wanting to return home. Said if Kelly was desperate he could've picked Freo(fair enough) but wasn't particularly critical of him.

Think we want a tall, chancing that Curtin will slide?

I said it earlier but you need to take risks and I would be swapping F1 with the cats for 8 this year

Before the compo picks, we had a chance to snare some good talent, Thurslop, ZZ, Windsor, ZZ, Hardeman but none of then will make it to 26*

So maybe we're changing strategies?

We shouldn't be looking at Hardeman, nor any half back flanker (with mid potential) at this stage in our build. These guys are dime a dozen, can be drafted easily with second round picks, and can pretty much play straight away. They're the easiest player to find.

Archer Reid - KPF
Charlie Edwards - tall MID
Logan Morris - KPF
ZZ - KPD
Tholstrup - maybe a Jack Redden type
Collard - small forward

The club will roughly know who will be available at 22, and have some sort of idea if Collard will last to 40.
Archer Reid is 203cm and can take a grab. I suspect he'll be gone.
Logan Morris is only 191. JD is 193. You want Mossis to at least have a couple of centimetres left in his growth plates to make it a worthwhile risk.

The more I think about it and all the over the top stuff with Reid forcing GC to take Walters at pick 1 may not be the worse thing in the world, big deal Reid doesn't get 20k, just throw in a Hungry Jacks.

I’ve been against bidding on Walters, if we want Reid, so 2 things for me.

You would have to be willing to take Walters, in the highly unlikely outcome that GC don’t match ( I would prefer Reid)

You would have to have a good idea how Reid would react. If he is a BSD that we want him to be he would want to go pick 1 and prove his worth.

If Reid doesn’t want the pressure of being pick 1 then, I would be concerned he is not the player we want.

I would love it if we kept Changing the goal posts up until the draft and we just pick Reid.

North to West Coast
"Here is our Pick 2 and 3 but we want 1 and your second rounder back.

West coast
" Nope we want 2 and 3 straight swap for 1"

North
" OK, fine 2 and 3 it is"

West Coast
" Sorry decided we want more now"

North
"OK 2,3 and end of first round priority pick"

West Coast
"Keep going"

Would crack me.

If BODE can do it, so can we

I'm tipping North buckle and offer 2 and 3.

McKercher and Curtin? Close to the two most likely players to be poached.

Or they get the Victorian rock star in Harley to lead the club to the promised land.
I am not sure where you get input on Curtin being poached comes from. His old man is a partner at EY and the family have lived in Adelaide Perth London and Jakarta. The family love travel and he is a ripping kid who will thrive in Melbourne.

I moved from Perth to Melbourne in my 20’s and it was an easy and fun move

Some experts reckon in an open draft Walters would go 1 anyway so it's a tough one, not really a need though for us if we did get him.
But GC would 100% match.

My scenario would be based on Reid being involved and happy with that outcome.

Meanwhile Hawks doing their best to shortchange GC on Chol who has shown a million times more than Brockman. Good times.

There is no way this happens. Forget it. GC are matching any pick.
