Everyone still saying if the right deal came along it would be hard to refuse. I get it, all eggs in one basket thing. Need more than one player. Can’t be as big as the hype etc.

Different sports, sure but the top 10 of the NBA draft is obviously pretty stacked with talent. 2003 LeBron James is a high school superstar and looks a clear number one pick as a prep to pro (straight from high school). Reid mind you was similarly rated stupendously high as an underage player in 2022.

You just don’t pass a LeBron James over. A generational talent comes in and you can get him, you just do. Let’s say you give up Pick 1 and get 2,6,11 that draft. Sounds pretty good for a rebuild? That nets you Darko Milicic, Chris Kaman & Mikael Pietrus. Who you ask? Exactly. It sounds decent on face value, but if you can get a franchise player, you will never live it down or get over it as a club if he does (and there’s a high chance) become a Judd or a GAJ or a Dusty.

I as looking to see if Reid was just doing the media rounds today. He wasn’t. He specifically came on SEN WA (and that’s it as far as i’m aware), talked up the eagles and clarified that he’s happy to come and wants to wear the #9. Does smell just a hint like WCE media department has got involved…

Mark Duffield this week said he's got a massive beef with Freo.

Caller from Perth called Trade Radio today and Barrett said he hadn't heard anything and doubted but then the producer ran the clip and Barrett couldn't believe it. Sounded pretty stunned but didn't doubt it because it came from Duffield.

I feel really dirty saying this but Barrett on Trade Radio this week has probably been the most reasonable host, along with his co-hosts Jenkins and Davis, in regards to pick 1 trades, go home factor for Vic kids(said they need to 'harden up' today) and priority picks.

Feels weird thinking Barrett's the reasonable one when you also have Twomey on(who's been pretty good, to be fair).

What happened?

Believed to have a lot of bad blood with both Bell and Longmuir.

Reckons Bell screws his players over in contracts and didn't like it when Longmuir dropped him as his agent.


Freo since apparently instructing all players they sign to either drop or avoid management through C.Young.

C.Young in turn is getting in the ear of all of his clients to leave Freo or avoid signing with them if heading back to WA.


Both parties continue to dig in deeper and West Coast will be the beneficiary.

Fremantle sticking their feathers in was only going to impact our contract offer in the unlikely event their revised deal prompted a request for more by Brockman. Sounds like that didn’t eventuate

It was never going to influence his trade value whatever that ends up being

Ideally we can convince them to trade Brockman and 32 for 43,57,62. Their 32 will get swallowed by the McCabe bid anyway and those picks of ours will come in once picks start getting chewed up for matching increasing their value

Next best option would be to handover 57 and 62

Probably don’t need to be more generous than that but it had been suggested somewhere that we’d offered our F3

I understand the sentiment but it's not really the same, it's 5 vs 18 players on the court/field.

You can put Lebron in a spud team and they'll likely make the playoffs. You put peak Gary Ablett in a spud team and it's still the Gold Coast.

If you want Curtin or O’Sullivan- then it needs to be pick 7. At 10 it will be Wilson or Murphy

I think all this hype will make it harder for them to split the pick now.
Eagles fans have already fallen in love the guy. To trade the pick now it would take something big and have to include 2&3, which North isn’t going to do.
They’ve already pissed us off with one ridiculous offer.
I wouldn’t mind us declaring we’re taking him now. We’ve tested the market and know what’s out there and where the draftees sit. I Don’t think 6&11 gets it done and North are just playing silly buggers.

That point is correct and I agree. It is an apples and oranges comparison for sure that I made. But you could also argue 3 top 10ish would make a team significantly better when you only need 5 players on the court. Those other 3 probably wouldn’t have given hindsight - even if all landed in the same team. Yes one player doesn’t bring success alone but we’ve seen in footy that superstars can put sides on their shoulders at times. Even to the point of GC and GAJ - I’d argue they’d have been significantly worse without him there, and it’s not like he wasn’t significant in and integral to the Cats success prior.

You don’t give up a touted generational talent when the gap between 1 & 2 is vast and you already hold the right pick.

You watch, there will be a huge offer at some point, but we will, I believe - still take Reid.
