Hello Eagles fans!

The embedded resources below are kept up to date by the trade board mods (as much as possible – we are human after all). Enjoy!

The good news is Gossage changed his mind yesterday and today about us taking Reid.

Even though he got Dev completely wrong

His source made him shift his view

At worst we get 3yrs of Reid, and he’d still command a likely hefty trade package if he wanted to return to VIC after that. He doesn’t strike me as the type to give in easily, and mentioned how important it is to be part of something from the ground up.

If we can get the list calls right, we should be starting our ascension into top 8 around the time his contract is due.

The median case would be something like Dangerfield for the Crows. 130 odd games, good service, and heads back to country VIC (albeit I’d want a better deal than they got).

Best case would be a Shuey or Toby Greene, who you never heard a peep about wanting to return to VIC. Even a Jonathan Brown who was heavily rumour Ed to always return didn’t do so until after his playing days were done.

In summary, JTR. Figure the rest out and back yourself, the coaches, the players and the organization to keep him. We don’t lose many.

don't think i could stomach hearing the "against the club that didn't want him!" call every time reid rips us a new on over the next 15 years

just take reid
At this point, with all the hype behind him, and with what's been said in the last couple of days, if the recruiters trade him away and he ends up becoming the next Judd or Dusty, ROB and the rest of the recruiting team might as well move out of the country because they will never live it down. On the contrary if Reid fails to reach those heights I don't think anyone could blame them for picking him as every single other team in the country would've done so as well. Though I believe with his skillset, at worst he becomes a very good player. Knowing this, surely we flipping JTR.

There is no other alternative.

Peter Bell is a pest. I am sure Freo have had conversations and an opportunity to present their case to Brockman's management during the year. Just as we have clearly been doing during the season. And he has had plenty of time to digest the offers, consider his priorities and circumstances and decide where he wants to go. And he nominated us and said No to Freo. There needs to be a gentleman's agreement between the two clubs that at that point with a returning West Australian player that both clubs are interested in, the other club will just step away and move on. But Bell doesn't. He starts waving contract offers at the player and trade offers at the club of the player who has already told him "No, i don't want to come to your club". He did the same wit Kelly. Why would anybody do that? The only party who benefits is Hawthorn.

There must be some internal problems at Freo for so many players to want out. I doubt it is Longmuir as he is not a fire and brimstone kind of coach who upsets people. Maybe it is Bell who is causing the angst there.

I don't know why we are offering Hawthorn anything. Just walk him to the PSD. I guess if you have a conscience you feel a bit bad doing it. But every other club in the comp would do the same thing to us if the roles were reversed. We need to start playing by the rules and culture such as they are and not such as we think they should be.

Bell a micromanager from what I’ve heard

A month ago our R2 was pick 19 and the first pick on night 2

It’s now pick 23 and no longer the first pick on night 2

Even worse is Fremantle look good to get 19 from Collingwood for Schultz and 21 from St Kilda for Henry which are both before our pick.

Using those picks they could take both Collard and Zakostelsky

What was a prime pick has been devalued massively
Keys please explain what has happened to our 2nd pick for it to no longer be the first of night 2?

If I was Harley Reid, I would be determined to stay at West Coast my entire career just to prove all the ****wits wrong. Hope Harley has some of my recalcitrant and stubborn ways about him.

Oh, and JTR (even if it is to just stick it up the Vic media)

It's still the first pick of night 2. But night 1 might need an intermission.

Don't see why we don't just get Reid and then a combo of WA guys with the later picks, Zakolevski, Sanchez, & possibly Moir from SA, and get NGA Hine-Bastion. We already adding Brockman and Flynn, so at worst getting 3 top 22 players in with those 2 and Reid. We can always load up next year and do a gold coast and trade for 3 or 4 first rounders with our first pick likely to be top 3 next year. Vic media thinks we are desperate to get heaps of kids ignoring the fact we have already taken about 10 in last few drafts and majority are looking to be first 22 players. Worst case scenario Reid leaves after 3 years and we load up again on more top picks.

I quite like that mix.

Eagles only very recently flew to Tassie to speak with McKercher and family.

A slight surprise, but not a huge surprise.

Possibility just due diligence in case 2&3 are put on the table.

I would assume that last year we visited 10-12 of the potential draftees. Maybe more.

The surprise is probably more that it has just happened and had not been part of earlier due diligence.

I think we just need to hold on to pick 1 now and draft Reid. There will be some desperate offers thrown at us right until the draft night. I rate Twomey's Intel and if that is to be believed Curtin will slide and if we get creative we walk away with Reid and Curtin. This will be a dream draft when you add these 2 Ginbey and Hewett.

Ben Edwards Claremont has just signed with Sydney VFL Team. We arent getting Chad Warner or Sheldrick or Buller next year.

Since the draft was first split over 2 nights in 2018 there’s only been one instance of an end of 1st round priority or FA compensation pick being given out.

That was in 2018 when we received band 2 (end of R1) FA compensation for Lycett which was the first pick of night 2 despite being a R1 pick

It’s a small sample size but it’s the only precedent we have

Sydney are going to have a similar issue to North in that they'll have some very good players stuck in the reserves in the next couple of years. The difference between Sydney and North though is Sydney could potentially jag a flag before a bunch of these guys retire and open spots up for those waiting in the NEAFL..

I feel like the offers for Reid thus far we could easily get something similar in Reid's 3rd year with a trade if he did decide to go home. If North did offer 2 and 3 and maybe a little extra then that's something we might never get again but otherwise if that isn't offered then we just take the punt and get Reid and at worst just accept the same value in three years time for him. Even if he doesn't go boom in his first three years I think clubs would still think he would be worth a high round 1 pick and a combo of mid/late firsts and early seconds.

Maybe, just maybe the Eagles are playing a Machiavellian game and the Kerch is actually ahead of Reid on their board. Insinuating they'll take Reid with number 1 hoping for an amazing deal that gets them exactly the player they want plus another top 10. If it works then down the line Elton would be an instant recruiting Hall of Famer.

Am I the only one that’s seriously pissed off this is taking so long?

We offer a future 3rd, they knock it back so then we offer pick 44 this year to which they want more.

It’s a player in a bottom 4 side that was dropped multiple times in 2023 and was originally a pick in the 40’s.

We have the first pick in the PSD. We should have told them to * off days ago and told them the offer stands until the deadlline next week.

Clubs pull this s*t with us because we are too nice. It’s the same reason North are ****** playing games with a Reid offer.

They most likely believe if they wait we will get desperate and accept unders.

You know how you fix that? Publicly say you’re taking Reid.
Agreed we are weakest side in trading.
Everyone in the league knows it. Just have a bunch of soft c*cks running our club that won't push any side and tell them where to go. Brockman should go PSD and it should be made known to the Hawks that's what we will do and it is going to happen. Take the pick or leave it. We don't care about them and their situation.

This is exactly what I thought. They know we will be uneasy with walking a player to the PSD and are weaponising that to try and improve their return.

I think there is still room for us to be polite but firm with Hawthorn that we aren't so averse to the PSD having tried to facilitate a reasonable offer.

Given the hype and unprecxidented exposure going at #1 would perhaps be a relied for Reid rather than a burden.

It would be an interesting tactic. Reid is pretty much fully grown. He'll add a little more muscle but not as much as McKercher and Curtin will. He's also 185cm, 6cm shorter than Jack Darling. It is possible that other players develop more relative to Reid.

But the kid reckons he's like Dusty and Danger, two players in the 185-190cm range that have been alright.
