Hello Eagles fans!

The embedded resources below are kept up to date by the trade board mods (as much as possible – we are human after all). Enjoy!

Keys you may like to sticky this post & move it to the start of the thread (so the sticky post doesn't rotate if a post is deleted before it), or copy it to your draft thread if you have one.

Just take Reid.

trading duggan for a pick in the high 20s or low 30s is bad business. clear case of overrating draft picks.
duggan brings leadership to the team and is unfairly maligned on here.

Allen was saying in his podcast that duggan is very vocal in the group and was even doing his pre-game speeches when allen was captain (i guess its not oallens thing).

suspect how duggan is rated internally compared to the board is miles apart.

How they internally rate players is definitely miles apart… and and its them that are wrong…

Something is definately brewing here. No doubts about it. We are in need of late 1st rounders & 2nd rounders to get our WA NGA's.
Tis the Season to do so.
Would be one of the considerations the club is making when deciding whether to keep pick 1 or split it.

Freo getting late first(s) for Schultz and Henry would be a bit concerning for the club imo.

I don’t think we lose either way, to be honest with how things currently stand.

Reid comes in, a potential A+ we are in dire need of, we get a player who can play on any line round 1 and can build with Hewett, Ginbey, Chesser (who I am still very bullish on) Hough etc

Someone comes to the table with a godfather offer, (6, 11,15, f1, for example) we take a few decent players who might end up as good as Reid but give us a strong bunch of first rounders to grow with.

Ideally, we would find a way to get into this draft again before 27, but if not, Brockman in with Flynn starts to address some issues with our younger crew getting a full pre-season in.

I'd gladly take 2 and 3 for pick 1.

As others have said, trade pick 3 to Hawks or Melb so they can get Duursma which gives us pick 4 or 5 plus a likely end of first round selection (assuming they have one - I've lost track).

End up with:

McKercher
Curtin
A KPP in the late teens
Still have pick 19 (pushed out to 30) to take someone decent -maybe a flanker.

That's a pretty complete draft.

On a tangent - the thing that annoys me the most about these late 1st compo picks is that they dilute the draft pool for those who don't receive them. Academy kids are already known to be off the board, but these compo picks eat away at what's left.
Nth have conceded that is not happening. So it's over. We are taking Number 1 pick. No one can match what Nth have to offer. So forget about it.

Saint Kilda just got an end of 1st compo today.

End of week 1 and the compo picks are landing and moving around.

Expect a flurry of trades for the mid range players on Monday and Tuesday.

Wed will be waiting for Essendon, Geelong and Port to see who blinks first.

I think the Dees are gonna cave and send Petty to the Crows for pick 10

Melbourne would then have 6,10,11 and their future 1st, I’d expect them to go hard after pick 1 if Petty is dealt

The bolded are where our picks 23 and 37 are estimated to be once picks are lost by bid matching. Our pick 44 comes in to about Pick 36 in the open pool

Players like Philactides, Zakostelsky and Hall appear on some other lists. There’s also a lot of movement in different rankings after the first dozen or so making it difficult to know who might be available at our picks

Knowing our own draft board as well as what those of other clubs might be will be critical for our recruiters when deciding whether to move up (or down) the draft board

It’s a very tricky draft

I’m assuming the club can read (Reid?) the rooms.

Room 1, 2023 draft, we have an elite pick and as much as it is expected we will get another next year sometimes strange things happen (drafts change in shape as the U18 season plays out, some AFL teams rise, others fall off cliffs… as we well know)

Room 2 - 2024 draft, as evidenced this year and continued into next year (most likely… AFL are looking at it) R2 picks are relatively junk. I know the magic herbs and spices of the FA compo ‘we didn’t adjust for pay increases’ will be fixed, so a lot fewer band 1&2 compo picks, but F/S and Academy picks are still going to make our F2nd mid 20’s in 2024.

So if a guy or two in the late teens (early 20’s on draft night) is who we are chasing use our F2nd to upgrade our next pick.

17/19/50etc in this draft are barely steak knives in any deal for pick 1 (different if we had 2 and wanted Curtin anyway).

2&3 should be the only and final demand. And Nth should not offer it.

But 2&3 is worthy (as much as I really want Reid).

Surely it's the PSD now

Am I the only one that’s seriously pissed off this is taking so long?

We offer a future 3rd, they knock it back so then we offer pick 44 this year to which they want more.

It’s a player in a bottom 4 side that was dropped multiple times in 2023 and was originally a pick in the 40’s.

We have the first pick in the PSD. We should have told them to **** off days ago and told them the offer stands until the deadlline next week.

Clubs pull this shit with us because we are too nice. It’s the same reason North are ****ing playing games with a Reid offer.

They most likely believe if they wait we will get desperate and accept unders.

You know how you fix that? Publicly say you’re taking Reid.

I come in peace.

Always liked Duggan, in light of the pick 21 received for Gresham does that get Duggan over the line? Few rumours swirling this morning over east
Normally this would be in the ballpark. Maybe with an innocuous sweetener to make the seller feel good.

But these are not normal times.

Duggan is worth more to WC than he would be to most buyers. He is in an age bracket where we lack quality and quantity. He has leadership skills (again we lack) and may even be offered the captaincy.

Then there is the draft. Pick 21 aint pick 21 baby. Add in 3 x GC academy matches, 2 x f/s matches, NM end of R1 charity pick and at least 2 x end of R1 FA compo picks, and pick 21 becomes pick 28-29.
Pick 29 just doesn't cut it. And (not StK's fault) pick 29 is what you're really offering.
