Hello Eagles fans!

The embedded resources below are kept up to date by the trade board mods (as much as possible – we are human after all). Enjoy!

Keys you may like to sticky this post & move it to the start of the thread (so the sticky post doesn't rotate if a post is deleted before it), or copy it to your draft thread if you have one.

I think it’s pretty likely an over the top offer will be ‘on the table’ -
fictional or otherwise - so we can be lambasted for years to come while they wait for Harley Reid to leave.

Sort of like how Hawthorn offered pick 5 in 2004 for Chris Judd…

Buddy was almost an Eagle

As if Pick 5 for the reigning 21 year old Brownlow Medalist was a great deal at the time….

Problem I see is what the Eagles consider over the top may not be the same as the offering club.

A very valid point I’ve seen made on twitter- nobody in the media has talked about what Reid could bring to the eagles and how well he would fit into our side

Also when talking about trading the first pick there’s never any follow up analysis of who we might pick other than Curtin and occasional references to other WA talent without naming anyone

I mean FFS put in some effort and actually go into detail about what a trade looks like and why we’d be better.

So ****ing lazy

That generally requires a competent interviewer
You’re kidding yourself if you think Goss gets to ask the questions he wants. WC vet every question before any pre-planned interview. Listening to anyone interviewed that is financially tied to the club is a waste of time.

Jackson Hately, would we have any interest?
Winger, seemed decent enough a couple years ago when I watched some of him but got pushed out by younger guys. Hes 22 which is a good age, hes been delisted so would basically cost nothing.
Our wings are pretty weak atm, and hes a big body at 191cm, could be a handy guy to throw a lifeline?
I have no idea what his plans/intentions are, just saw his name mentioned on the trade radio twitter

They are only concerned about their Victorian audience, ultimately that’s who funds their pay cheques and it’s a very feel good Vic Centric story- VIC Cty boy - VIC Clubs - VIC audience ….. it’s about as incestuous as it comes ( pun intended ).

If we get Flynn, what do people think of English next year? Would we still be interested? or would we just tell English to stay where he is?

A bit hard to jump the gun on an English answer just now.

I am more interested to see how the foursome of BBW, Flynn, Jamieson and Barnett shape up before committing to English.

Barnett in isolation looks completely untested so far. Pick 23. First ruck taken. AA ruck top year. 203cm. Bloody strong prospect.

Whilst 2024 may be his second year, it will be a big watch. If he can show strong progress to suggest he'll be a regular top-tier 22 prospect by 2027 it will then throw up the proposition of why do we take English to fill 2 seasons (2025/26) on a big coin, long termer when we can have some patience and use that cap elsewhere.

We are coming from a long way back and it will take some prudent decisions on long term value v short term sugar hits to get it right.

NORTH Melbourne has made a target of the No.1 draft pick this year and gun prospect Harley Reid with its suite of selections in the upcoming trade period.

The Kangaroos' hand of draft picks has been boosted by the League's assistance package handed to the club last year, leaving them with picks No.2, 14 and 19 this year, their first-rounder next year and two end-of-first-round picks in 2024.

Clubs also expect them to get a first-round compensation pick (No.3) for losing free agent Ben McKay to Essendon, which would significantly bolster their chances at tempting West Coast with an offer to trade down from pick one.

Yeah I'd trade pick 1 for picks 2, 3, 14, and 19

I love when I read Eagles should just take Curtin with pick 1 when nothing has come out to even suggest we're desperate for him or even that into him.

It's normal that as a WA club we'd have more knowledge and be interested in WA talent, I know we like Curtin and Hardemann but that does equal Eagles will trade away pick one to secure a WA player.

Flynn can be fine as the number one ruck and English can then go to centre half forward to replace darling.. is big, mobile, marks and can kick straight. Would be a good weapon up there for us

For the record im not that keen on English, I dont rate him that highly at all, he is enabled by the elite midfield around him so much.
I agree with what youve said, Flynn/BJW/Barnett will be more than servicable for the next few years, if not then there will be other ruckmen around in the draft or as free agents

North making an offer for pick 1 hinges of them receiving 3 for McKay, if they don't they'll not have the picks IMO.

It's not going to be a easy as he thinks. B William's was the 5th best ruck this year.

I hope he is ok being back up ruck. Main ruck is a big ask. I always thought he would be 2nd fiddle to B Williams.

Supposedly we want to play Bailey forward and pinch hit in the ruck.

Hence offering Flynn the #1 ruck spot is what interests him.

He's moving for opportunity to play #1 ruck.

That's interesting, does that mean we've asked to match bids in the 2nd round?

There was some suggestion a few months ago that we would be asking for NGA access inside the top 40. No word on what has been granted.

I thought it might hinge on Norf getting access to Sanders but they've since received other picks instead.

Season 2023 is over and the AFL world turns its attention to the upcoming trade period and draft that us Eagles fans have been focusing on since about round 3

With the existing thread nudging 1,000 pages (pages, not posts) it’s time for a rollover

Key Dates :

October 6 (Friday) - Free Agency Period opens
October 6 - 8 (Fri-Sunday) - National Draft Combine
October 9 (Monday) - Trade Period opens
October 13 (Friday) - Free Agency Period closes
October 18 (Wednesday) - Trade Period closes
October 23 - November 10 - Trade Period for Draft picks only
November 20 (Monday) - Round 1 of National Draft
November 21(Tuesday) - Round 2 of National Draft to completion
November 22 (Wednesday) - PSD and Rookie Drafts

For those that might not have been paying attention here’s the current state of play as it pertains to West Coast :

List Changes -
• Retired : Hurn, Shuey, Naitanui
• Delisted : O’Neill, Foley, Petrevski-Seton, Clark, Winder(R), West(R)

Officially we have a total of 8 list spots available with a maximum of 7 being on the main list

Contracts Pending -
• Waterman (2 years), Witherden (1 year) and Culley (1 year) are all reported to have agreed to extensions but these have not been officially confirmed by the club
• Trew hasn’t been delisted but remains in limbo as he hasn’t yet been offered an extension. If an extension isn’t forthcoming we’ll have an additional rookie spot available

Trade/FA Targets -
• Tyler Brockman has asked to be traded to WCE from Hawthorn with the club reportedly willing to walk him to the PSD if Hawthorn demand too high a price. Expectation is one of our picks in the 50’s should be sufficient
• Matt Flynn, a ruckman from GWS, is set to leave as an Unrestricted FA with WCE and Melbourne vying for his signature
• Dev Robertson is reportedly considering a 3 year contract offer from WCE to leave Brisbane but is yet to announce his intentions

There’s been no other players linked to a move west at this stage and no credible indication of any player requesting a trade away from West Coast

Our current draft hand is picks 1,20,34,39,53,58 and 76 (if needed) although these will change prior to the draft with 3 players (McKay - North, Gresham - Saints and Doedee - Adelaide) set to trigger compensation picks by changing clubs as Free Agents

Other than the trades referred to above, the focus on WCE leading into the draft will be whether or not we trade the prized No.1 draft pick universally expected to be the talented Harley Reid.

With no high profile trades across the competition as yet, the new home for Harley is likely to continue dominating discussions in the lead up to the draft. Unfortunately until we either trade pick 1 or call his name out on November 20 the debate is going to be front and centre

In due course, I’ll be setting up resource threads on draft rankings and individual players for posters to easily obtain information on draftees without having to wade through pages of back and forth speculation

So have at it with your wild trades and views on who we should/shouldn’t draft or trade for but be respectful towards others, even those who have a different viewpoint no matter how outlandish you feel it is

Simmo has said it a few times that he sees BJW as more of a forward. From watching him play I think hed make a pretty reasonable second tall for Oscar

The entire AFL "media" has been able to get away with coasting along with the bare minimum of effort and research for the majority of its existence. They're dealing with a majority supporter base that doesn't mind snippets of information in bite sized morsels that is more about entertainment than being informative. The average footy fan doesn't care about decent analysis. You only have to look at someone like David King who is fed stats that make him look like Rainman compared to the majority of the rest of the media.

The funny thing is people on here performing multiple jobs and having family’s do a better job than the crabs “journos”

Half of them probably use ChatGPT to generate their content

I'm a bit unconvinced on his forward ability. This could go pear shaped for Williams if that's the case.
We have Darling Allen Waterman and Jack Williams as tall forwards.

Williams going into a resting Ruck/Forward combo pushes two tall forwards mentioned out.

Interesting problem to have as it means we have a lot of depth in the key forward area. But also means by 2024 a few in this group will likely fall off the peaking order out the door.

It's make or break for B Williams J Waterman J Williams and J Darling this season. And Flynn too if his recruited into number 1 ruck needs to cement that position.

Good set of hands on him too
