Hello Eagles fans!

The embedded resources below are kept up to date by the trade board mods (as much as possible – we are human after all). Enjoy!

Keys you may like to sticky this post & move it to the start of the thread (so the sticky post doesn't rotate if a post is deleted before it), or copy it to your draft thread if you have one.

Nice thought, but be prepared for an avalanche.

14 of the All Australian Under 16 team were from the Allies Team.

* First thing that the AFL must do is remove the points discount, that apply to Academy picks.

* Second is that the team MUST have a live pick in the corresponding round that they match a bid in.

* Thirdly allow all other Clubs the same access rules to their own, Academy kids.

Sobering thought the four Gold Coast first rounders drafted yesterday : Walter, Read, Rogers & Graham have all been in the GC development since they were 14.

So they have already had four years on 1. Access to better coaching and 2. Four years of bonding and developing relationships on and off the field. HUGE advantage to any young kid.

The AFL have created a runaway train with this one.

Sydney, GWS, Gold Coast & Brisbane get a massive leg up, with the way things are currently structured.
Was having this discussion with one of my Sydney supporting mates. He said it was unacceptable we only took one pick last night, and that even Sydney took two.

Pointed out that unless we gave away our F1 we weren't getting another pick last night, also the fact that Sydney were able to prepare by using their first rounder then a bunch of crap picks to match on their academy kids doens't make them draft savants, just that the unfair leg up exisits. We would have been much more proactive moving our second pick forward if we knew we could have matched a Collard pick with crap picks left over.

All in all, yesterday was a disaster. We are an historically bad team and we picked up a single player in the top 30. That's no rebuild. Best we can hope of today is a fluke or two.

No it really wasn't. We still hold a full hand for next year which will likely be a top 2 pick which we will have the option of splitting. We can then move a F1 into the year. No reason we can't have 5 picks in the top 25 next year.

Sorry for the intrusion and apologies if this is the wrong thread to write this.

As Saints fans whose team has been in the doldrums for more than a decade, we have been railing for some time about the free dps to North and the lax rules for rugby playing states for NGA's. Turns out we have benefited as we picked up Collard without you being allowed to match.

Wrote the following on our board and almost all agreed....

"Happy we picked up Collard. but it just shows the joke the AFL draft has become. WCE have been as bad or worse than North for three years, North get gifted multiple FRDP's.

WCE need to rebuild as much as North, GCS get something like 5 FRDP's because they are a northern club from basically one FRDP because of NGA's, we get Collard because WCE can't match.

What a farce, what a joke, what a corrupt institution this competition has become with the new woman at the AFL gifting North those free dps when she has just come from there.

WCE supporters should be truly angry at this."

The same will happen to us next year. We have a NGA called Cole who we wont be able to match.

The whole favouritism stinks IMO.

Some of the melts on here over having pick 30 and not an early 20s pick are hilarious. As if it makes a scrap of difference in the long term.

I never wanted us to get any extra picks, but i sure as hell didnt want North (or any other club) to get so blatantly propped up like the AFL has been doing.
The AFL is a corrupt, compromised joke of a league

Good chance pick purchasing will be introduced. Being able to trade future picks 2 yrs in advance is also being looked at. If we don't rise this year good chance we might actually get a PP pick at the end of the first round. We will be fine

I like those suggestions. Would also like to see the ability to bid on academy players matched to ladder position. Something like bottom four can match in the first round. Fifth to tenth can bid second round and everyone else post 40. Then give the northern clubs a slight leg up by giving them bid discounts, everyone can pay market value.

2011 we had pick 3 and pick 26 .... and look how that worked for our 2015 GF appearance then flag 2018.

So not much difference to be honest , plus we can stick pick some players up with some value.

I dunno i mean i would have liked Curtin but not at the cost of a future first which will help our rebuild and if we did finish bottom 2 we will all be a lot angrier.

Also this is not year 1 of a rebuild we have drafted plenty of talent over the last 2-3 drafts...

Presuming some Vic flog team wants to trade for access to Murphy ahead of other Vic flog teams straight up...

Wouldn't be surprised if that 40 ends up a mid 30s pick and the 49 jumps up as well.

Endorse: Murphy, Reid, Schoenmaker, Simpson

Meh: Stevens, ZZ, Edwards

Don't want with a 10ft phallus: Roberts, Morris and Hall.
After taking Reid with one, the possibility of you deleting your account was the next exciting possibility for round 1.
You let me down again:tearsofjoy:

Did you mean 2010? We had 4, 26 and 29 in 2010. Think our first pick in 2011 was pick 23.

Agree, especially since the draft is very even this year from about pick 15 through to at least pick 40.

Some of the players people are melting over are very speculative type’s anyway ( Collard & Moir). We will have an opportunity tonight to add some depth type players to the best kid in the draft.

Yes it’s not fair our second pick is pick 30 and yes it probably would be a massive issue in a different draft if there we smaller tiers of talent. However this year it’s been repeatedly spoken about how even the talent pool is outside of the top dozen or so.

Plays the role we're probably crying out the least for. Reminds me of Cole.

Better players with bigger upside still on the board, he'd be a very very vanilla selection IMO, particularly when there's some decent talls available.
You don't think we need a running attacking half back flanker? He is exactly what we need. His main weakness is his one on one defending.

The system certainly needs to be improved. No discounts when matching would be a start.

But most years outside the top 12 becomes a massive lottery. Theres a reason why Gothard went 20 picks earlier than predicted and Oscar Ryan went 40 picks earlier than predicted.

Probably thinking this is what Burgiel's for, although there's talk about him moving onto a wing.
Surely we need more of these guys developing. Currently we only really have Hough, Chesser, Burgiel and baker developing across the backline and wings. Hough the only one thats really proven himself and he looks more a lock down intercepting back anyway.

I hope the Archie Roberts links aren't true. He may be one of the best available players on talent in round 2 and in another draft I’d be stoked he fell to us, but I just can’t see how he fits a list need? We have so many small/medium defenders on our list already.

Smarter draft watchers have had some cracks on our trade options for tomorrow so I am coming at it from the weird and whacky angle of everything staying the same.. we keep 30 and 40.

The players we all seem to like are KPD ZZ/Murphy and mids Simpson/Freijah. So, who has more of a chance to slide to pick 40?

There are still more tall players leftover after round 1 however I think the majority of teams in between our picks are more interested in taking talls rather than midfielders so I’d pick Murphy or ZZ first and hope Freijah or Simpson drop.

Based on my memory of mock rankings these are the names that are most in contention to be selected between 30-40. About 14 guys in no particular order. I've struck the players we never talked about prior to today and would be fine to see picked by other clubs.
A.Reid - Morris - Murphy - Schoenmaker - Roberts - Jiath - Zakostelsky - M.Edwards - Simpson - Sanchez - Hastie - Freijah - Lual - Delean

WCE - ZZ. Based on posts it seems we prefer him over Murphy? If the draft was a month ago we’d all be popping champagne with Murphy still available here
BL - All reports say they will go tall, likely KD over KF, best available is Murphy in this scenario
GEE - Didn’t go Caddy and selected Sully because Morris would be around these picks
Stk - Have already addressed small fwd and mid likely go tall - Schoenmaker or A.Reid are best available
CAR - Roberts - simply best available. also mentions of Lual
RIC - Already have some building blocks at mid, small fwd and HB. I think they'll go tall Schoenmaker or A.Reid
GEE - M.Edwards or Stephen. Go local midfielder after collecting two talls
COL - M.Edwards or Stephen as ready made mid. Long term ruck option and pies bad boy streak continues
FRE - Go for fwd half needs small Sanchez/Delean or tall Weatherill/Rudd?
ESS - Best available mid. Lean towards Freijah as Simpson is similarly built to shiel, merrett, hobbs and parish. Could go for Lual, Jiath or Hastie here though if they want more HB pace
WCE - Simpson falls just

Old mate Long went 53? We have plenty to look forward to.
