Hello Eagles fans!

The embedded resources below are kept up to date by the trade board mods (as much as possible – we are human after all). Enjoy!

Keys you may like to sticky this post & move it to the start of the thread (so the sticky post doesn't rotate if a post is deleted before it), or copy it to your draft thread if you have one.

BOND 007 thanks for your insight as always.

Question - were most/all our selections based purely on talent, or a mix of needs and talent. If the latter, no KPDs took your fancy in this draft? Personally, I see us a little light on for young key defenders on the list. Or is it a matter of trialling some of our other key positions players down back in the Beagles?

Cheers.

GWS didn't think so - they saw some immediate gratification
My words exactly.
Adrian Caruso reminds me of Jeff Carson from Draft Day, where he takes a slightly immature and short-sighted attitude to trade offers and strategies that may be less beneficial in the long run.

In terms of picking up a player in next years draft I agree that a R3 pick is relatively inconsequential as it’s not overly difficult to get back in at that point

However, our R3 pick this year was used to trade for Brockman.

Other clubs were also able to use R3 picks to trade with clubs like Gold Coast for higher picks as they collected points for academy kids. Same thing will happen next year

I like Hall. Shapes as a solid citizen that could carve out a reputable career as a complimentary mid - good height, strong body, decent pace

In the end it was probably necessary to trade up given we didn’t want to miss someone we’d targeted but I’d rather we still had the F3

Don't get me wrong, hope it does not happen, but there is always a reasonable chance we'll get a somewhat live draft pick in 2024 for anyone departing our club (I think the biggest speculation is over Yeo leaving as an unrestricted free agent) which will give us ammo for a Brockman-style arrival into our club.

Yes, obviously would rather keep it but if the recruiters knew they had to jump on Clay Hall and the price to pay is an F3 in 2024, I'll back them on it. briztoon has already informed us that there are several academy picks set to disrupt the draft order next year.

You know what I like most about Reid and Hall?

I can't imagine them not confronting someone like De Goey after that cheap hit against Hewett.

These young guys are going to change the current culture of the club and drag the old gumbies along with them.

(I may or may not have been incensed by spotting that incident on a video short just then. The lack of reaction was humiliating.)

Barrybran things are looking up for ya!

In other random opinions I am sort of glad NicNat is no longer on the list as this magical thing we've been waiting for.

I swear we were like "she'll be right, Nics back soon we'll dominate, then PFFFRT"

Now the mids can bust in there and attack.

It's all mindset

I am a bit miffed we won’t get to see the old guard in Nic Nat and the new talent in Reid play together. Though I think it’s for the best like you say

I agree that academies in QLD & NSW need help beyond say traditional states but to do what has happened to Collard (& others) flies in the face of what academies are for. Which is to spend time developing young men & getting a reward for that effort.
The academies are there to expand the sport in those states so they should be encouraging players in those catchments to take up AFL instead of NRL.

Cherry picking the best players from established football states who are already die hard afl fans then moving them up and training them in an afl environment for 3 years before taking them for peanuts is just a joke of a league that has gone way too far in manufacturing outcomes in the interests of profitability. It’s becoming increasingly apparent the AFL will do this through any and all means it has available to it - draft, tribunal, fixture, rules and umpiring.

Jed Walter 100% should have been available to us at pick 1 should we have so wanted him.

More importantly, why were we so keen on the trade? Our f1 is likely a top 3 pick, in a draft with (apparently) a very strong midfield cohort at the top, We rate Curtin that high?

Any mini red sausages in the war room spread at least?

Yes we did & Freo did as well.

1) make no.mistake he's going to be a player
2) means he is already in our system 12 months ahead of a #24 selection
2) local boy so we don't have the possible go home issue hanging over our heads

BOND 007 given we took no KPD is it fair to say Busslinger (2024) and/or Taylor (2025) may have given an indication that they’d be interested in coming home?

WC would like both/either but no that really hasn't been discussed nor was it a factor on decisions. WC said they were concentrating on midfield going into the draft

When you have 1 pick in each rounds 1 & 2 you focus on talent. Beyond that needs come into play

The simple fix is halve the points value of picks outside the 1st round.

Would totally remove this BS trading out of the 1st round and paying with crap picks.

Very, very easy solution.

Then 2nd round picks would be worth more to keep and use. And to match bids in the 1st round clubs would need to keep their 1st rounders to pay the points.

No more double dipping after getting discounts. You want priority access AND a discount. Pay up with 1st rounders as the other picks simply won't generate the points needed.

Problem solved. And no club could argue its unfair as its a rule for everyone.

Not likely to happen but a good idea - I like it

Spot on. Mentioned it here before but people seemed to suddenly not want to rate him in fear the Eagles would take him at 1 or trade to get him using pick 1.

Was worth risking a F1 for IMO.
