Hello Eagles fans!

The embedded resources below are kept up to date by the trade board mods (as much as possible – we are human after all). Enjoy!

We're such idiots if we trade pick 1, no other club would consider trading pick 1 so why are we?

Hawthorn, Norf, Essendon would not trade it if they had it.

Every single club would consider offers. It’s just the media coverage that makes it seem like we’re desperate to ship pick 1 away just for the sake of it.

To be fair the media is only really doing it because its the only half interesting thing to talk/write about this draft period

From the outside looking in, if clubs like North, Melbourne & Hawthorn are so desperate to get pick 1 off the Eagles, then Reid really must be a generational talent that is head & shoulders above the rest of this draft. If that is the case my advice to these clubs if I was the Eagles would be to tell them all to bugger off as Reid is our player.

Depends what you get in return. People make it sound like it’s just getting given away.

I can understand thinking. Recent clubs to go to bottom have been rebuilding for yonks. Adelaide. Hawthorn. Fremantle. Likes like essendon, saints are stuck nowhere. Carlton eventually go there.

I think thinking is that Quickest way to rebuild is to get as many picks as possible as early as possible so they can get to their 50-75 games as quickly as possible.

I wouldn’t trade it. But you need to find competent 20 players to play finals and 25-30 to challenge for premiership. That’s 6 years if you find 4-5 afl capable players EVERY YEAR. At best.

It’s a hard slog. If you downgrade to mckercher and get another 3 bites at a cherry on top of that, it cuts down at least a year from rebuild. Allows you to trade for players and free agents earlier, knocking off another year or so.

It’s important that young players play with our older players to learn from and this shows free agents we are on the up.

“A quick update on where we're at before the trading period opens on Monday.
This is what we're discussing NOT what will get done. If it does, it does. Etc.
We're having some serious chats to WCE regarding pick 1. Pick 3 and F1 but they also want an established played like a Ward (I said like a Ward not necessarily Ward himself but he's in their mix). A couple of other players have been mentioned, DGB hasn't been.
WC want Brocky to be done separately but we're pushing for a 2nd”

“Edit: I'm not at liberty to discuss those other players WC are asking about. All I can say is Ward is one, DGB is not.”

From the Hawks board. Entertaining reading the competing ITKs. If this one had any legs would love if we were trying to snare Mackenzie.
If Ward truly is on the table I think this is a deal that we can’t refuse. Even if it means sending something back. Unsure what. Probably not second but honestly I’d probably even be ok with that considering it’s blowing out hard. Ward is absolute quality. Pick 3 is a Duursma/mckercher/Curtin type. Next years pick is around 3-7 you’d imagine. Doubt it’s much higher than 6/7. That’s a great deal

Exactly!

Up to six clubs interviewed Harley Reid today , so not exactly surprising .

Don't think NM would suit Harley Reid , maybe Hawthorn is the best chance other then WC !! ( ....) But that's about it other then Geelong who are not with draft capital .

Josh Ward is a slow outside midfielder (who isn’t a wingman) who is a heavily uncontested player and who doesn’t hurt you at all. He’s not very good. He should not move the needle in a trade of this magnitude.

Literally a tier 0 source (ROB) said the other day that it’s likely we’re taking pick 1 to the draft but will listen to what other clubs have got. I know list managers won’t be 100% truthful in that sort of interview but you have to take that on face value.

There’s been next to no coverage of that quote and infinite trade suggestions from the media over the days following that interview

Yeah I pretty much agree with all that.

Tarkyn O'Leary , Sandringham Dragons on our radar as the A Gaff wingman replacement .

Has good speed ,goalkicker , played a few games of VFL late in the season.

Possible Pick 20 option although rising in the ranks .
I really like O'Leary, was shocked he won the 2km. Nice left foot and is quite creative, pick 19 no. Better players, in the 30s to 50s yes.

Harley Reid in an interview with FoxFooty today: “Recently one of my best mates, Jason Gillbee, got delisted after one year. I know he wasn’t top 20, but yeah I feel like a year is not long enough.”

I don’t know much about him, but is it worth throwing Gillbee a lifeline and getting him over here with Harley?
Gillbee was a tad Bambi on skates, but definitely had some real ability and agree deserved more than a year!

Some small risk getting Ward , he has publicly stated he's a die hard Hawks supporter growing up ..

Going back to his draft profile, ran a 5.57 2km but notably is a life long hawks fan so there is zero chance he'd want to move anyways.

So is Ward good or bad?

Top ten pick few years ago , very solid neat kick , high possession player .
Missed games in 2023 , not sure why ( injury most likely )

Solid player , second season not as good as debut season ( injury reasons ) .

Sounds like a flight risk ,...not keen on leaving Hawks nest .

Doesn’t necessarily have to be Ward. The other 2 players that have been floated by ITK’s on the hawks board are Mackenzie and CMac. Both are quality. Mackenzie more so. I rated Mackenzie heavily in his draft year, a lot here did, and he looked good in the games he played this year. Would also be a get. CMac not as desirable but is still showing solid signs. It’s probably the best deal I’ve seen going round so far that actually has some legs. Although not sure what ‘legs’ it actually has and whether it’s a bunch of bullshit

IIRC wasn’t Ward one of those ‘I don’t want to leave Victoria in his draft year?’

Concussion and foot issues this year
