What stuns me is the difference in trade value of Papley versus Butler. I know Papley is a better player but is the difference really that much??

So all academy players and father/sons should be off limits even the clubs rate them as the best player at their picks? We should deliberately compromise drafts further by allowing clubs to not pay fair value?

I think some people like being outraged for the sake of being outraged. St Kilda did nothing wrong bidding on Naish as that was exactly where he was rated within the draft range.

Bit harsh on Butler.
He has no future at RFC.
The club is just trying to ensure his welfare and that he furthers his career elsewhere.
St Kilda has nothing to offer us practically in exchange but we clear a space on our list.
Couldn't stand if he went to Carlton.
He is a premiership player and that's all I care about.

Next year they can reassess Markov's future, he could play at another club, no great loss.
Didn't see too much VFL this year but Aarts was impressive.

Reports are we're giving Butler up for nothing then at least make it worthwhile and get something of actual value out of it, even if it's only moving up 2 spots in the first round

Aarts was nowhere near as impressive as the younger Menadue, who is not just a back flanker. Can play wing, and excelled in the last 8 weeks as a high half-forward, averaging 19 touches and 1.6 goals in essentially a Castagna/Lambert role.

If anything we're being tightasses only giving them Butler and not throwing in some of our late picks. Menadue is clearly not up to the level. Some decent back end VFL games doesn't change that.

One of the most expendable on the list. If he can yield a pick, even better. On Aarts, he should have never been drafted.
