You’ve been lurking on the Geelong board too long
Non- lurker here.. Has that been suggested over there? I know both those names are of some interest but not in those combinations.
On current form Kelly and Clark are ahead but I can see the possibility at the end of all of their careers, Venners and Brander may trump Kelly and Clark. Having those 2 available to us next year but would give us a very strong chance at a threepeat.
I would even be tempted to throw in a pick swap Geelongs way.

Frockers could not help themselves with 2 mids like we could not help ourself that draft in taking 2 talls.

One of mids plus Naughton was what I would have done and they may even have dropped down the order. The talent from 2 to 5 was so even that they could have traded pick 2 for pick 8 and 35 or something like that. As we come to another derby, the head scratching by our board at the Freo list management continues.

They've started to turn on Brayshaw as well

IMO venables for Kelly would be a case of short term gain for long term pain.

I rate him highly. It’s a shame his preseason was interrupted as id noticed a bit of a shift in his intent to stay involved. It’s a hard spot to play, that selfless HF role where you have to make each possession count but pressure and work hard off the ball.

I’d be content with our first for Kelly, which given his contract status is fair. I really rate him, but he still has queries on his kicking I haven’t seen properly answered. Still a bit up and down for my liking. Although that pass to set up Hawkins on Thursday last week was a beauty. Teams will put a lot more work into him now he’s taking more a lead in the midfield, so it will be interesting to see how he handles that.

Clark is not part of any proposed trade scenarios as he just re-signed until the end of 2022. The only player drafted in recent years that has asked to be traded is Kelly, and Geelong (club) wanted an 'exceptional deal' for him. Even asking about Clark would be silly IMO.

Venables was pick 13 in 2016, Brander pick 13 in 2017 and Allen pick 21 in 2017. Clark pick 15 in 2018. All are contracted beyond this year at their clubs and clearly internally rated. We're just as likely to throw in one of our guys as 'steak knives' as Geelong are likely to part with Clark or Constable in the same manner. Wishful thinking on the behalf of supporters who want to value their own players highly but not those elsewhere.

See in bold...
Hypothetical-
Would you trade Venables and Brander for Kelly and Jordan Clark? Straight swaps.
I have no doubt that this scenario would never eventuate but makes for an interesting conversation I thought.

If we're trying to win another flag before Kennedy retires, then surely we're in the market for short-term gain. And yeah, there's a price to be paid for that.
