Ah, it must be near the end of the season and we are in to every one.
Personally l think we have targeted one or two players. We won’t be making to many changes again this off season to the list.

Length of contract to be decisive as Gold Coast captain Tom Lynch weighs up his future

FREE agent Tom Lynch will sign a two-year deal worth up to $2.5 million — if he stays at Gold Coast.

But he will sign a deal for as long as seven years — at either Richmond, Collingwood or Hawthorn — and be paid about $1 million a season, if he returns to Victoria.

On the day free agent Rory Sloane agreed to a five-year contract extension at Adelaide, Lynch’s future was no clearer.

Unofficially, it’s almost certain Lynch won’t be at Gold Coast next year.

Richmond is considered the favourite to land Lynch, but major talks to come with the Tigers, Hawthorn and Collingwood will decide his final destination.

The length of term will be a decisive issue.

“If Rory Sloane can get five years to stay at Adelaide, then Tom Lynch, who is 25, should get six, probably seven years if he moves,’’ an industry source told the Herald Sun yesterday.

The Suns are understood to have verbally offered a five-year deal, which would make Lynch one of the highest-paid players in the AFL, and have recently asked for a decision as soon as possible from their foundation player.

That the captain had not already committed to next year has Suns officials fearing the worst.

Lynch’s discussions with the Suns and his three suitors have stalled in recent weeks.

His manager Paul Connors has recently returned from overseas, while Lynch will have an operation on his injured PCL next week, which will require between four and six months rehabilitation.

Although there is slight concern about the impact of the injury, it’s anticipated it won’t drastically affect contract talks.

Clearly, if it was a money decision, Lynch would remain at Gold Coast.

The remote chance of him staying would be a massive show of loyalty, in that he would give the Suns another two years to convince him they were a club with a strong future.

It’s understood Lynch has a terrific relationship with coach Stuart Dew and his teammates.

However, the lure of home after eight seasons as a Sun, and the prospect of on-field success, is powerful.

The five-year commitment from Sloane pleased both the Crows and AFL great Leigh Matthews.

“While it is a human right for players to move to the club of their choice for whatever reason, personally I applaud the stayers,” Matthews tweeted yesterday. “Those who have the resilience and strength of character to remain one club players, so very well done to Rory Sloane.”

The 28-year-old, who was pursued by several Victorian teams, admitted there had been a “lot to weigh up’’.

“This is a great footy club and I have said many times before how much I respect and love the place and people, particularly the playing group’’ Sloane said.

“There is always a lot to weigh up, especially given Belinda (wife) and I are about to start a family, and we have been in constant talks with the club for some time.

“I’m super excited about what the future holds, both from a personal and football perspective.”

IF we got him for next to nothing(4th Round Pick) I would Think about it
And then pass anyway.

To me it’s a simple question is the brought in player a best 22?

If not, pass.

Caveat, is always if the player is a specialist cover position eg Ruck or Full Back that might be needed, just in case. Eg Ben Hudson type. Then that’s ok.

Really? Have you seen him play? I haven’t since his under 18 days and even then I didn’t see what the big fuss was about. 4th rounder for someone who has played 9 AFL games and 12 VFL games since drafted seems like a waste to me.

Thise sooking about Goddard would be the same sooking about Sam Murray. God sake, just because they arent superstars yet doesnt means their spuds.

Didn't realise Paul Connors is Lynch's manager. If he nominates a club post season that's where he'll end up. If money isn't the issue and we're close to a flag, as a Pies fan I'd be pretty confident in landing him. Success, money and footy romance. Not much we can't offer him.

A sauce.

Gubby tried to as mentioned off load De Goey to Gold Coast/Brisbane because he had mates up there. Brisbane also really did want him. I dunno how true this part of it was, he tried to do it without even talking to Jordan or his family. They apparently had no idea about what Gubby was doing.
Why did Brisbane not offer him a contract this year then?

I have heard this as well but Jordie did know about it and was keen (they offered good coin). Brisbane withdrew as the trade would have involved Rockliff.

I also heard this in August of last year. I thought it was more aimed at getting him this year before he resigned recently.

How good is it getting towards the end of the season and thinking about finals instead of what draft pick we are going to get!

Not sure if there was any offer this year but at the time he was open to it. I also heard he would have followed the money if the pies low balled him. Not commenting on his character at all, but he wants to be paid well (and fair enough).

Mitch will cost to much in my opinion.

Gaff if we could get cheap would be a great get especially with new interchange rules coming in the Pies with Gaff, Sidebottom and Phillips would be close to the fittest midfield in the comp.

Lynch and May should be the priority.

First round and player for Mitch McGovern? Ah, no.

I’m a fan, but that price is steep! IMO, the thinking was that in order to get a points relevant pick from Adelaide we’d need to throw the player in on top.

Objectively speaking it’s a high price for a 24yo undersized KPP that’s played one ok season of AFL footy. If he were 21-22 and a former 1st round pick with the career he’s had I could get around it, but I do have concerns that we’ve seen everything he has which is Jesse White/ Chris Dawes with sticky hands!

Edit: I’m also skittish with Colin Young clients and I think the club are too. I believe Mayne was the only one we’ve brought in since Krackouer and that was all on the man that went rogue...

Don’t tell Dave

Yes I'd say he's done nothing deserving of that type of pick, let alone player. I thought Peter Jess managed Krakouer.

Wait so we are into goddard now?

I just threw Goddard (Hugh) out there as a "would we be interested if he came on the cheap" type of question.

The answer appeared to be a firm no - he is injury prone I guess and not getting a game at St Kilda but I personally thought he went ok in that block of games at the end of his rookie season and Achilles / turf toe issues in consecutive years have affected him the past couple of years.
