Tell Greece that. Older players lost 1 0 at home coach plays 17 18 19 year olds instead away to scotland and gave them a hiding. I know it's a different game but you can never have enough youth coming through. It doesn't matter how many you have if they can play you play them.Stunt development is when there in and out al the time eg even though i don't rate him Sonsie can't help his confidence, Same as Ryan cops a lot but in and out you can tell by watching him and his expressions ( why bother) I'll be out again. The likes of Tim Watson at 16 didn't affect his longevity or skills.

I want to preface this by saying I'm a big Harley Reid guy. Reckon he is going to be a superstar.
I just don't think it makes sense to pursue him.
Couple of pages ago people were listing globetrotter-esque midfields full of current and future stars. Yet we can only realistically rotate through 6 in any given game and that's being generous.
In terms of players who will likely be around for our next serious finals/flag tilt in the midfield, we will have...
Taranto/Hopper - coming to the end of their contracts
Lalor, Smilie, Hotton - I'd be shocked if any of these three don't make it.
Dyson Sharp/Fred Rodriguez - this year's draft
Ross/McAuliffe/Campbell - Depth
Sure, a couple may be traded, or play predominantly forward but you can't just have a midfield full of stars, you need the Kane Lambert's of the world. You need the role players who cover defensively for the stars.
It doesn't make sense for us to burn multiple first round picks on Reid. We are trying to build a premiership list, not a supercoach team.
I just don't think it makes sense to pursue him.

Then there is every chance we will also get a top line mid as a free agent also (most likely from interstate)
I would rather take our 2 selections in the draft (fred is a must imo) and go all out for a player like Butters

I think we'd need to trade a Hopper or Taranto if we wanted Butters. You don't want too many older players taking game time away from the kids coming through or they'll just leave for more opportunity elsewhere.

Even that plus future Carlton picks is not likely to get it done. So which other key players are they letting go to get a premium pick?

(These are my thoughtful opinions, not rumours. One of my posts featuring a mooted trade for HR that would involve keeping one of this year's first round picks was copy-pasted to another site and taken there as a rumour. I've copped a heap of shit for that!)
Anyway.
If this rebuild takes 5 years Harley Reid will be 24. That's why he's the one, of anyone who may be coming onto the market. That's why Richmond (and others) would be all over him. We are one of only a couple of clubs that would currently have the collateral. I also think after our highly publicised Richmond Man culture, last year's Draft and the Carlton game this year, we would present as an attractive option to HR if he does decide to leave.
I'd rather he was in our midfield rather than someone else's midfield when we're playing them in finals and I reckon that's what Richmond would be thinking too.
He has big game finals type player written all over him imo.
Pairing him with Lalor, Smil, Hotton and these kids makes for a potentially devastating brand of footy.

Curtain's younger brother is in this year's draft as well (and CAN play just quietly) so if they snap him up they will have both sets of Curtains.This is getting really over-ambitious by the Crows now.
