If im Blair im not folding and its a take or leave deal
#10 + #11 or he stays a Richmond player

He wanted a long contract and he got it
Its in freo's court to take or leave

We Hold him exactly like Papley & Ryan O'Keefe
Bolton will always be worth a top 10 pick even in 2 years

Mini McQualter will come knocking when Harley wants a trade

Bolded bit is a strong point.

even if we don't blink and freo don't blink, Bolton stays a tiger, that when this gets revisited the following year he is still in contract and still commanding the same type of picks.

I think that is a really really good breakdown and summary of possible offers.

of your proposed offers Im happy with the last 2 for sure.

end of the day we have to pay the $$ somewhere to hit 95% cap short term until others deserve it from within.
We have enough players on the books to front end to meet the 95%
Hopper $750k x 5
Taranto $750k x 5
Lynch $1.5 mil
Balta just signed
Broad just signed
Vlastuin - Pay him up

Cap space is vital after 2025 for cap trading to get picks and free agents
cant just throw it away to get a small upgrade on picks when freo are desperate for Bolton

I wouldnt pay more than $250k-$300k x 3 years MAX

alright so onto the Bolton deal.

Current status:

RFC asking: 10 + 11
Freo offering: 10 + 18

Would we be ok accepting 10 + 18 given we have landed everyone else?

would we be open to:

RFC Giving: Bolton + 24 for 10 + 11?

Can we manufacture a way to get 10, 11 and 18 with a combo of Bolton plus picks?
Reckon we would take 10,11,18 for Bolton and 14.

Bolton is a proven match winner who could easily be the difference in a close final. I’ll be shocked if the deal isn’t done on our terms.

$1.2 mil x 4 years thats nearly $2 million
No Way we do that it would be stupid

20% - 25% max
We will struggle to hit the 95% cap rule. Salary cap integrity is far more important than just the 2 mil number. Realistically, who in the side deserve the next big payday now that Balta is signed?

Gibcus has the air of injury clouding over any future contracts and then......

We need to be serious and really look at the value of Bolton in a good side. In an okish side in 2022 he had 80 shots on goal. For a small forward/mid, that is incredible.

Lets look at it.
Bolton - last 3 years played a total of 68 games and averages 3 scores.
Greene - Last 3 years played a total of 63 games and averages 3.71 (24% better than Bolton)
Papley - Last 3 years played a total of 63 games and averages 2.93

Starting age 2025
Bolton - 26
Greene - 31
Papley - 28

My Scenarios would be
Straight Swap (No nothing, he is completely off our books)
Bolton for
10 + 18

Sending Picks
Bolton + 51 for
10 + 18 + 30

Salary Pay
Bolton + 35% - 45% Salary for 4 years for
10+11

Salary + Pick back
Bolton + 35% - 45% Salary for 4 years + 24 for
10+11+18

You are radically under-selling Bolton.

Picks 10 & 11(likely sliding to 12 & 13) would be an absolute bare minimum for Bolton with nothing going back and zero salary paid. If they wat help with his salary, give us extra. You have us giving them extra.

If the deal doesn't happen it could haunt Fremantle forever if they make Prelims and Grand Finals and struggle to win contests ahead of the ball and score. They have the capital. If they want the player, pay for him. I am sure we are not asking for a Judd/Ablett/Dusty type price for him. Bolton is one level down from that. But one level down is pick 12 & 13 nothing going back as a bare minimum.

You dont have to give them increases just front end their contracts
Taranto & Hopper have 5 years remaining at $750k we could pay them $2.5 mil upfront each leaving $250k a year for the remainder

Lynch has $1.5 mil to pay this year
Balta will be on $1 mil x 7 years just pay $3.5 now and leave $500k a year for the remainder
Broad will be on $600k for 2 years just pay him $1 mil in 2025 and $200k in 2026

Its actually very easy to clear out the 95%
and have a War chest for next year free agency or to buy picks with cap space expected to be introduced

Its the long game now with many ways to rebuild

I think we do 40% of the salary for the life of his Richmond contract so we can have some integrity on the cap. Means that we wont overpay someone like Ross and we can be real discerning with the draft crop after they sign their token 2 year contract extensions.

I don't think any club is going to see it as beneficial to pay a huge chunk of a player's salary for the sole benefit of not needing to overpay their own players. I have no issue with Richmond coughing up funds for Rioli and/or Bolton to get the best deal on picks, but Bolton for 12 & 13 is not something we should be paying any part of his salary for.

I have a feeling that it will be a trading type system so all you would ever be able to get is late first rounders from teams up the top as they try and fit in as many top end talent as possible.

I also think that for the next 2 years we should only be looking at players sub 25 (in each year). We need to get as much games into the core of players below Balta's age.

Essentially Yze should just look at what Sam Mitchell went to the board with and replicate it.
I agree with everything you just said.

For the next 2 years, we should absolutely play and draft as many kids as possible and look to get value players on the cheap when they're available (Seamus Mitchell is a good example that we could get for free from Hawthorn at end of 2025).

What I'm saying is that, at end of 2026, when we've hopefully got some promising kids coming through, the portion of Bolton's (and possibly Rioli's) contract that we've been paying would be gone. We suddenly have an extra $700k/year to spend on a quality free agent, or to purchase a pick from another team.
