Isn’t Tarrants back rooted? Older than Talia and a worse injury this year. Big risk offering the 2 years we’d need to get him out.

Think I’d still rather Talia tbh

LOL Tarrant wont leave Norf

But they will need to give him the extra year now

It's a strange one, knowing you won't play finals in your last 2 years of footy staying at North, basically going through the motions.
On the flip side, he could win a premiership at Richmond in 2022 or 2023, every player dreams of winning a premiership. Could be his last chance.

We'd want to be very careful that doesn't affect our Chol compensation, though I'd suspect a player of his age shouldn't result in any pick going back to North
Offering 2 years for a player of that age seems more like a move that Geelong would make

Could be worth it if we get him and he gets AA, just for the lolz
If we’re only getting pick 38 for CCJ, we could make Tarrent part of the Trade to avoid diluting the Chol compo. Kangas get no compo for losing a 32 yo free agent so the trade becomes CCJ for Tarrent & 38 And we don’t pick him up as a FA.

didn’t hear anything controversial. I’m sure the club would have said it’s ok to comment on it.
You’d think it’s a no brainer for Tarrant, but who knows

Not sure he would be thinking he will be winning a premiership

Melbourne/Doggies/GWS/Bombers etc all looking like improving he would be thinking Richmond finished 12th and who knows if they bounce back and if North match 2 years he would be a 1 club player. Personally if i was him and north matched the 2 years i wouldnt leave

Very interesting analysis of what we should be doing in the off season in The Age today. Thoughts?

What needs to happen during the off-season?
For the first time in a long time, the Tigers have draft selections to play with: two first-round picks and two second-rounders. The only problem is this is a terribly difficult draft because of the lack of viewing and the fact some prospects have played fewer than 10 games over two years. In addition, some of the best talent, Josh Sinn and Campbell Chesser in particular, have been injured for most of the year. Richmond don’t need anything in the trade market; at a pinch, maybe a key back to replace Astbury and Daniel Talia might be on their radar, but they are well-served everywhere else. Unrestricted free agent Chol and Coleman-Jones will struggle to be in their best team next year. They played some very good football this year and will have suitors and should be looking for opportunities. Both would likely bring second-round picks, which would give the Tigers an even stronger hand in the draft.

How should they approach the November draft? (Picks 7, 16, 26, 28, 40, 44)

They could package 26 and 28 and have another selection in the first round. North Melbourne, Adelaide and Gold Coast could accommodate them as their draft is still about the number of players they bring in to complement great young players. The Tigers could use one of their first-rounders to trade into next year’s draft as well, but that might be difficult as most clubs might be attempting this too. Richmond are in a very good position to go again next year after a big pre-season reset. Their brand of football is excellent and stands up, but they only have a year or two left in their premiership window.

10 days old now for us - that article that started two weeks ago (date in the URL 31/8/21) and gets added to with a new team each day. Not sure about his valuation of our expected departures.

I would've thought Tarrant was a little too old for us. Definitely shows the club believes were still in the hunt for a flag next year if we're chasing a 32 year old....

Well we are going to be playing Riewoldt, Cotch and Edwards. There would be no point any of them staying if we weren't going for a flag. We would need a massive start to the year though, it's hard to see us having a midfield that can run with the top teams anymore.

Probably not miss him as such, but he's been recruited for a reason, maybe a bit of succession planning in taking over Caddy's role in a couple of years?
So he (Cumberland) is stuffed then, because Caddy's main problem is he can't find a role...

Yeah that's the biggest take-away for me. We clearly plan to go to the draft and continue to re-build the list while we are still contending, we already have quite a few players in the 20-25 age bracket. The question was whether the club thinks we can pinch one more with Cotch, Dusty, Edwards and Jack playing key roles.

Offering Tarrant a 2-year deal suggests they think we are capable. I think it's within reason that the club thinks we can win another one with a similar team to what we've had over the last 2 years. Obviously some tactical adjustments are needed and I'm sure that will happen over the pre-season.

Flags are so hard to win, so I say load up and give it a shake again. If we fail, then so be it. We are most likely adding 4 top 30 picks this year to compliment the young talent we already have. The club appears to have done a good job in balancing the 2 philosophies.

Both kinda ol school rucks - Nank is just brutal but Soldo is more your pointy elbow type (like Greg Stafford)
Completely opposite players , Ivy , a good ruck first follower second , his work was def improving . Nank follower first ruck second , just ok in ruck , cbd poor , around the ground very good

Soldo is an immovable tower at stoppages. The complete opposite to CJ. And at the back end of 2019 he was taking contested marks around the ground. He’ll never be a 20-possession ruck, but he’ll also ensure we are not monstered at stoppages.

Right now CCJ ruck work makes nank look very good . Around the ground he’s ok and will get better

I'd love to get Tarrant but it does seem like a desperate Geelong-like gamble to make a last gasp lunge for another flag. If we do go for Tarrant, what would we need to give up for him? Is it a straight swap for CJ or a separate deal? What about Tahlia?

We really are looking to reinvigorate the list this draft it would seem. Our recruiters are the best int he business and I have complete faith in them to find us the midfield talent we need to be in contention for years to come.
