Exactly, Hawthorn brought in O'Meara & Mitchell in 2016 a year after their 3 peat thinking it would get them back in the mix, and after a brief burst of life have steadily gone backwards ever since. Yet somehow he is going to be the difference is between us winning and not winning a flag.
You act like it's the same situation. When the Hawks brought those two in Buddy was already gone, Mitchell was gone, Lewis was gone, Lake was gone, Hale was gone, Hill was gone, Suckling was gone, Sewell was gone, Guerra was gone.

Bringing in one of those two would be more akin to Hawthorn bringing in Lake or Frawley. Or Brisbane adding Caracella in 2003. Or Carlton adding 28-year-old Greg Williams after they'd won just eight games in 1991.

Macrae won’t leave the dogs.
de goey is an interesting one. Would like.
De Goey would be a perfect fit in a footy sense.

Crumples Macrae's a dishonest footballer, he can stay at the ChuckDucks.

How could I forget about the Point post.
Poor St Kilda. God hates them.

The player we should be targeting next year is Touk Miller he will be 26 years old and in his prime and a good time to come back home to Vic.
He'll be their captain. He's one that has bought in.

I wonder if Richmond could improve De Goey's effort levels and consistency. From the outside, he seems to have A grade talent but D grade work ethic, resulting in an inconsistent B grade player that can occasionally produce something special.
His move into the midfield later in the season showed he is capable of being a 30 touch damaging player who can go forward.
Personally would love him at punt rd.

Miller isn’t leaving gold
Coast. Will end up being their 2nd best all time player

But the Suns love giving us their good players we can give them back Will Martyn Queensland boy and a first rounder

He was important in 11 - very good in the gf - and played at least an important structural role and kicked the goal that hit the post in the 09 gf.
He also kicked another very important goal early in the last quarter of that GF.

Thank god they didn't have Gawn or he'll be Gawn2..

Just highlighting how that father-son pick helped with 2 of their 3 flags.
So was I. Now let's have no more praise for anything Geelong, except their decisions to hire SHocking and extend Salty.

I don’t get why some of you are so against trading for Mitchell/JOM. You’re too busy trying to beat the system and stay up forever without realising it’s just better to exploit the sh*t out of AFL equalisation system. The best way up is to go all the way down.

Apart from the cats every premiership team since 2007 has multiple top 5 picks who form the nucleus of their side. And the cats got gifted one of the best players in history and one of the best full backs in history via F/S and they nailed a few crucial top 10s like Bartel and Selwood. On top of that you need to nail a few other first and 2nd rounders in the space of 3-4 drafts and then wait a 7-10 years.

And even then you can miss like the Saints (2009/10) or completely fail like Carlton every year. So when the chance at a premiership comes throw everything at it, because even if you miss it there’s always another draft, there isn’t always another chance at the premiership. Plus winning 4 separates this team from other dynasties.
It's not about trying to beat the system, it's about doing what has proven successful for us in the lead up to the 3 premierships and doing it again. We built our team from the ground up starting from before Hardwick arrived and we took advantage of some poor years at the start of that process to get in some very good players, but the core of our team wasn't really built on top picks.

Vlastuin pick 9
Grimes PSD
Prestia pick 9
Martin pick 3
B.Ellis pick 15
Grigg pick 19
Baker rookie
Riewoldt pick 13
Cotchin pick 2
Edwards pick 26
Castagna R2 rookie
Astbury pick 35
Houli pick 42
Short R1 rookie
Rioli pick 15
Rance pick 18
Lynch pick 11
Soldo R4 rookie
Balta pick 25
Caddy pick 7
Lambert R3 rookie
Nankervis pikc 35
Bolton pick 29
McIntosh pick 31
Graham pick 53
Broad pick 67
Butler pick 67
Pickett MSD

We've had 2 top 5 picks in our premiership line ups, with most of our picks coming in the mid first round or later in the draft.

The key isn't having a host of top picks, the key is putting together a group, through smart trading and nailing the draft, so that it hits its peak at the same time and is able to maximise it's potential.

Very rarely do you you hit and go on a run like us & Hawthorn did, and to a lesser extent Geelong, but more times than not you fall short like the Pies Swans Eagles Dogs Fremantle & Saints have done.

As I said above we know what builds a dynasty and it wasn't taking shortcuts it was nailing the draft year after year and then when we were close nailing the trade/free agency period to get us over the hump. Where we're different from Hawthorn & Geelong, is that we've been able to continually hit the draft and add more talent for the next generation to get a good foundation, now is not the time to take a short cut to chase a possible 4th flag with aging players. Now is the time to nail the draft to secure a future and if we're fortunate enough pinch a 4th flag with those that got us there in the first place.

If it fails then as you said we go to the draft again next year or we can target a Green/Taranto type who can come in and give us 7+ years alongside our already established young players.

not to mention between 09-16 they took 3 first round picks, Smith, Burton and Lovell. So two mature age players and a guy they flipped for Wingard.

Or maybe they've been watching them all closely, and realise the chasm between 1 & 4?

Perhaps. But look at it this way, you’re rebuilding a club - do you take Dusty or Cotch + Vlaustin +…?

Lot of eggs in one basket to be potentially ruined a single major injury

A couple of remarkable decisions.

Salty won't go until they've fallen off that cliff. Hiring Hocking will be their eventual downfall.

Well, Bolton and Stack are small forwards and Stack can be a small back to.

What will happen is Castagna will be replaced by Dusty.

Dusty will do a KB, and kick 50 plus goals until he is 40 and father time kicks in by then because despite Dusty's greatness eventually everybody loses to father time, Dusty in the middle will be replaced by a younger more effective mid as Dusty ages.

We are talking about winning premierships, so an aging Dusty in the forward line still kicking 50 plus goals is more effective than younger substitutes and younger effective talent is spread out in other areas we are more deficient in
This post needs more Dusty, didn’t say Dusty enough, I feel your willingness to use the name Dusty is a little Dusty if I Dusty say myself

Dusty
