11. Jobe Shanahan (20)
Bendigo Pioneers/Allies
FWD, 194cm
Talent League: 5 games, 12.2 disposals, 4.6 marks, 2.0 goals

Shanahan continues to impress aerially, clunking pack marks and making his presence felt leading out of the goal square. He's also spent time up the ground where his work rate gets him up and down the wings to provide an outlet out of defence. Able to leap on heads and typically an accurate set shot, Shanahan could rocket into the top-10 with a strong carnival.

12. Jack Whitlock (17)
Murray Bushrangers/Vic Country
FWD, 200cm
Talent League: 3 games, 15.0 disposals, 6.0 tackles, 2.3 goals

Whitlock has missed games through injury, but put himself in the first round picture early with big performances up forward for the Bushrangers, earning himself an AFL Academy call-up. At his best he's taking the ball at his highest point and proving a match-up nightmare for defenders with his long limbs, outstanding leap and strong hands.

We have to trade to get one of these players... trade rioli to the suns for pick 11 and have lynch and balta take them under their wings

Agree with this. I have not heard confirmation about Rioli to gcs but there is alot of talk about it from the right areas. I'll update once I hear anything either way when I believe it's solid, not just speculation.

I don’t want to lose either, but Rioli is a better player for us to lose than Baker. We will get better trade value as he’s contracted and Suns have quality draft picks coming out of their wazoo they don’t really need/want. And they are absolutely desperate for a high quality line breaking defender, and Dimma loves him so they’ll pay big overs.

Baker is 9-months younger and overall IMO a superior player to Rioli and harder to replace.

If Lachie Schulz commands a 1st and a 2nd rounder, no reason Richmond wouldn’t expect better than that for Rioli who is contracted.

I certainly wouldn’t be encouraging Rioli to leave, but if he wanted to go and we got a couple of top-25 picks it wouldn’t be the worst thing given he’s 28yo start of 2025.

Disagree on baker being superior, but both heart and soul of the club. Draft picks won’t cover the loss of either of them. Rare players beyond stats.

Yep, blinded by draft selections that may or may not provide us with a decent replacement for the player we are willingly offloading. Crazy strategy, given both Rioli’s abilities

Personally i think we hate seeing our players leave to go to another clubs and hurts watching them play well and get success for the club they go to but we will quickly forget and wish them well then adopt our brand new shiny kids that we get under our Xmas tree and adapt.

Distinct possibility that Dusty , Rioli , Baker , McIntosh , Graham could all be gone end of the year and we get 5 new kids that we will love going foward.

But lets not forget we are in a rebuild the next 2-3 years and some hard decisions need to be made for future success of this great club.

No way we trade them out, jnr starting to come on , trading out quality isn't smart list management imo.

Is there even a successful team in the modern era that has done so on the basis of trading out their stars (or potential stars), even 4 or 5 years before they won the flag? If the Swans manage it this year after shifting Dawson a few years back, it'll be a major exception to the rule, but their flag is still a mile off. His loss ultimately cost them big time in 2022, as did Danger for the Crows in 2017.

The closest it's come is Grundy and Treloar at Collingwood, but the Pies weren't in a rebuild, and were forced to offload those two players to accommodate salary cap for the remainder of their stars. We are definitely not in that situation. Collingwood even traded out their Pick #2 in 2021 in planning for Nick Daicos, and again we are not in that fortunate position.

You trade out superfluous players, or those made redundant by a glut of one position (if you can't otherwise re-purpose them), and you certainly don't trade out the best representatives you have in that role. The Crows are a perfect example of this, losing Danger, Cameron, Lever

At worst you lose the odd "go home factor" player (eg. Dangerfield, Dawson, Judd, etc) which often cannot be avoided, but otherwise you hang onto your best 20 or so players under 28 years old, and your best dozen youngsters under 23.

Rioli at 28 next year won’t be in the next tilt.

Bullshit. Dusty was heart and soul and he is nearly gone and nobody cares. Rioli is a very smart trade we have enough older blokes to mentor the next core.
I never viewed Dusty as a heart and soul player. STAR, best to do it, MVP etc, but not heart and soul.

I actually think this offseason is crucial in regard to letting two of Rioli, Baker, Bolton and Graham go. So crucial that we will end up like a Port if we don’t best case or worst case limping until we admit a full clean out and end up like North.

Short?

I'd go Short and Graham. Free up 2 flanks to ease the kids into it.

Out of the 4 players Rioli & Graham for me

Agree. Rioli would get us massive value. I know it’s controversial but Bolton is so good in a top side and probably our best player when on, yet doesn’t scream leadership for me for keeping around. We could trade heavily into next years draft and really load up on picks. I see it future proofing us post Tassie.

Out of curiosity what do you think we get for Bolton in a trade ?
1 pick inside 10 plus another 10-20 ?

Out of the 2 picks you will most likely get 1 decent player and possibly a bust with the other
Shai is only 25 and has 7 years left and i cant see us being down for more than 2-3 years

You dont let players like Shai walk out the door

I would only do it for two top 7 picks of value from a club hell bent on obtaining him.
