he cant kick mang and is 170cms

I was 170cms in kindergarden

What would we give for a small forward who could have 7 shots at goal in a single game of footy? He will be kicking 40+ goals a season from 2026 onwards… guaranteed.

Yeah its gonna be a novel...... But this would be my plan around Free Agency.

As the season goes on, its becoming clearer to me that our biggest hole right now is in our leadership.

Benny has basically gone MIA & in the very recent history we have lost Rance, Cotchin, Riewoldt, Astbury, Houli, Lambert, Edwards, Dimma, Mini, McRae, Leppa, Peggy, Balmey & replaced them with...... who exactly?

Adem is not a natural leader from his first 3 months in charge. He seems almost shy. Like a lovely guy, but shy, unsure, nervous. Certainly is not a natural when it comes to public speaking. It's his biggest room for improvement moving forward i think.

The guys we empowered to be our captains - Nank & Grimes, bot saw their physical capabilities fall off a cliff which immediately undermined their ability to lead effectively. Of our better younger players, only Baker really has anything close to a "leadership" badge.

The club desperately needs genuine leadership. Or at least older players that have a wealth of experience to provide onfield experience to our structures. Looking through the list of FA's, its a tough year to be in that market. Can always trade of course, perhaps take a older player being overpaid to absorb capspace for another team to make a deal, but we really need some ring-in generals. None of our 27+ players have stood up in that area tbh.

Because of this i think the club needs to do something i almost NEVER endorse to do. Get old guys in for cheap 1-2 year contracts. Ironically, this is the situation i would go after a Robbie Tarrant.

I'm not sure where Markov is at with Collingwood, but he appears to be a UFA. I think he would be pretty gettable for the right number as Collingwood would be restricted with cap-space must like we were in 2019 with Brandon Ellis.

Always liked Markov. Was disappointed to see him go. He had personality & played with it. He seemed to mesh well with the club and thought there was no ill feelings there. Just no roles with a dynasty backline. This would especially be a good move if we do infact trade Rioli to the suns as whispers suggest. If we could trade out Rioli for 2 x 1st round picks or something involving Moyle & then replace Markov for nothing but cap space, thats a solid gain for the club i think.

And on that note, i'd probably consider doing the same with Brandon Ellis. Out of favour at the Gold Coast & Dimma. His form has dropped off, but he is only 30. He was a great Tiger & was Short & Bakers mentor & best mate. I also think he did a good job at the suns when they were having tough times, he showed character and leadership i thought. If Baker stays i think its almost certain he is appointed Captain. It would be great for him to have Brandon back at that moment & perhaps it can help get Short back into the right headspace.

Feels crazy to be suggesting 2 former players, but looking at the FA list they showed up. And i jujst feel the club needs to do what it can to get competitive as fast as possible, without spending draft picks. Just get short-term seasoned replacements to move on who needs to move on & still play the core of our best kids & not be pummelled.

Never thought i would say this, but would consider making an offer to Membrey as long as its not a long one, ie 2-3 years. Our forward-line is way pathetic & if Dusty does indeed retire, we are in deep shit. Membrey is 29 and kicked nearly 300 goals at AFL level & is 15 from 11 this year. He is not the type of guy you win flags with, but he a good option when your sniffing for picks.

Nick Haynes is another one i would consider on a 1 year contract, with the hope that he fits in well and still has 1 more left in him. 200 gamer - 193cm defender. Same with Marchbank. Injury-prone is the issue, but if we got both he & Haynes, we would have the depth to see if we can get him right. Astbury was much the same until he got his body right.

We need to make clinical decisions on what we have & move on to new options as much as possible where required. I think the club has the potential to be really really undermanned over the next 3 years as i think its completely realistic to think that Dusty, Grimes, Prestia, Pickett, KMac, Lynch, Graham all perhaps never play another game for us beyond 24-25. We all know the young guys we have atm are not elite prospects, so there is no way we are going to replace those guys internally. We need to "Troy Chaplin" this shit, but all over the ground. Not to win games, but to ensure our percentage is somewhere in the 80's% not 50%

Effectively, the next 3 years recruiting strategy should be "elite" potential kids & veteran "pain sponges" that are looking for that extra year their current club wont commit to.
Taranto
Baker
Hopper
Balta
Rioli
Miller
Ross

Added to veterans Nank, Lynch, Dusty, Broad, Vlastuin.

We are not a basket case. Let's not act like one.

If the club isn't into Ned Moyle i will throw up. Seems like the perfect guy we should be getting into. Young, ready to go, "elite" potential 22 yo tap & around the ground ruckman. A good tap ruckman would make life so much easier for a young developing midfield.

Club should go for him bigtime. Surely dealing with the Suns should be easier than most clubs?

Hopper, Miller & Ross do not deserve to make a list. Rioli is potentially being traded for pics. Dusty likely wont play on & Lynch might struggle to play 20 more games in his career. That list is quite frankly weak

Why would Moyle come to us? Witts is going to retire well before Nankervis does. Even if he leaves he had better suitors in Pies and Dees at least.

To those being critical of our drafting and list management … from 2011 onwards (players just finishing any impact), here is the list of teams to have finished bottom 5, along with any ‘quality gifts’ received along the way from f/s, academy etc….- I’ve only included quality:

Suns : 11 times finished bottom 5 (plus Jed Walter, Ethan Read, Jake Rogers and Bowes)
Lions : 6 (plus Ashcroft… soon to be x2. Fletcher. Hipwood. Kitty Coleman)
Demons: 5 (plus Viney. Brayshaw… pick-3 for losing Frawley ..haha)
Saints : 5 (Owens and Windhager academy)
Blues: 5
Roos: 5 (McDonald. Thomas. Duursma .. pick 3 for losing McKay ..haha)
Giants: 4 (Hopper, Perryman, Cumming, Green)
Dockers: 4 (Henry)
Dogs: 3 (Darcy, JUH, Croft, West)
Bombers: 3 (Daniher, Davey)
Hawks : 3
Crows : 4 (Michalanney f/s)
Power: 2 (Mead and Burgoyne f/s)
Swans: 2 (Heeney. Mills. Gulden. Campbell. Blakey)
Eagles: 2 (Waterman f/s)
Pies: 1 (Darcy Moore, Daicos, Daicos, Quaynor)
Cats: zero
Tigers: zero (MRJ f/s)

So is it any wonder we might be in a bit of a hole with our list? FMD … on top of not a single bottom-5 finish in 13 years, we’ve gotten barely a thing from any ‘gifts’. Even Sydney have 2 x bottom 4 finishes on top of 5+ quality gifts in recent years.

Lions have 6 x bottom 5 finishes, plus soon to be 2 x #1 quality players in the Ashcroft brothers, plus Hipwood, Jaspar Fletcher and Coleman.

So we need to be realistic with our ability to rebuild given the lack of any lowly finishes and completely bare cupboard from lucky gifts from which other clubs have absolutely gorged themselves on.

I am happy to see how OHB goes over the next couple of seasons. He could be a perfect replacement for Nank in a couple of seasons, if he continues to improve on what he has shown so far. I have been really impressed from his couple of games, as he looks like a very smart pick up. We should also target a player that can pinch hit in the ruck but also be able to play KPP as well.

If his all that why on earth would GC get rid of him or him himself go to a team on the way down and play second fiddle again to NANK?

Who is your 8-9?

I'd guess the below as more or less certainties:

Grimes
McIntosh
Collina
Prestia
Naismith
Coulthard

Pickett (but likely 1 more year)
Dusty (his call obviously)
Graham (Free agent)
Baker (Heartbreaking trade)

It's such a deep cut if we go that route (excluding Collina who is a free hit), but times up for a lot of these guys. Picking 5 players in the ND would flashes of 2021 draft, if we nail it and all our guys from 2021 come good (this is a big possibility) that's half a side right there, will take a few years to get established.
If players are getting a game right now it'll take a trade to get Pickett , Graham ,Baker Kmac off the list.

On past form its fringe players first out the door. Like Green, Smith, Cumbo, Coulthard.

Then injury retirees. Grimes, Prestia, Naismith.

Club loves Kaleb Smith, with good reason.

Whilst I agree in part to the strategy, i don't I agree with the players named. I think if you went down this path it would be a Brisbane/Luke Hodge situation. So it would be a proven leader in the twilight of their career eg. Pendles, Fyfe, Boak etc.

that's to much common sense there mate.

well done.

We need 2-3 solid years of drafting and we need to be picking from the pointy end.

Looking at the Hawks they have a nice young side but Will Day is their only player you would say is going to be a star. They're over achieving which will peak them at middle of the table. You actually need to be either really good or really poor. North will fly past Hawthorn.
Yes and no , hawks make up looks similar to coll , even spread. Coll team right now looks bloody ordinary yet they’re playing good footy and are entrenched top4 side

If the AFL change the points rules … which they will because they are carnts…. then as it stands we have 6 picks beyond pick-40, most of which are now wasted.

So instead of us being about to package up 4-5 x picks beyond 40 for a late first rounder, they’re now almost worthless.

We could package up 22 and 31 for let’s say pick-14… but to me I’d rather take 22 and 31 to the draft to get 2 x throws at the stumps.

What a bunch of cretins the AFL are…. they hint last year that there’s a chance the bidding system may change … and 100% because Richmond have picks 40 and 41 … what a surprise, picks 40 and beyond sound like they’ll have no points attached to them. Not 50 and beyond. Not 35 and beyond. Not 45 and beyond. No … pick 40 and beyond. Watch them change it again in future years after we’ve been royally screwed.

Corrupt campaigners the lot of them.

Its ****ing bullshit, that's what it is.

Typical AFL just playing on words and then implementing something that will have an immediate impact on some teams. It will hit us harder than most because we are now in the process of trying to rebuild our list while Clubs such as Carlton, Brisbane, Gold Coast and Adelaide have already had a few years building their list and are on the up.

You try not to be cynical but the timing of all this just leaves a bad taste in my mouth, the AFL want a different premier each year, their plan is to have 18 different premiers over 18 years, we've won 3 in 4 years so right now we at the bottom of the list again.

What I can't work out is Collingwood, they won the flag last year so I cant understand why they continually get looked after, will this change if they go back to back? Or do the AFL want them to remain at the top while Carlton have re-emerged feeding the $$$ coffers of this corrupt organisation.
