Re: Tigers to trade for key forward

id rather we rookied thorp from the vfl then trade for dowler

The strong rumour is Richmond are looking at Tom Lynch from the Saints, he was the 13th player drafted in the 2008 AFL National Draft. We've had a good run with another pick 13. Starved of opportunity in the Saints forward line and having suffered an ACL a few years back he's looking for a new home.

Any takers?

I would absolutely have a look at him but he's barely even carved out a start at St Kilda.

If he was good enough this early and hadn't been set back by injuries he would not be starved.

He is only 19 years, 11 months and I would think St Kilda believe he can be an upgrade on Eddy and McQualter sooner rather than later. Therefore I don't think we would be able to offer what the Saints would want.

Are you kidding? Rance and a third rounder for Ben Mckinley. More like Rance for McKinley and 2nd/3rd rounder. We would have easily gotten a late teens pick for Rance in last trade week so why would we give him up for a dud when he has so much development left?

I stand to be corrected, and I hope I get proven wrong because I have followed Alex's development from day 1, but I think Rance plays a lot like JON in regards to his decision making and footy smarts. Like I said I hope I'm proven wrong but from what I've seen so far, I don't think he has what it takes.

I think Thorpe may actually get picked up. I really don't mind this idea.

Personally I would be happy for Dimma to throw a late pick or PSD selection at Dowler. It's not like he is over 25 he is 22 and still in our age bracket. I have always rated him ever since he was a junior, would have probably gone top 3 if it weren't for injuries. Instead he went and 6 and never got a decent gig as a 1 or 2 forward due to Buddy and Roughy. You have to wonder why Hawthorn took that many KPF prospects so many drafts in a row ecspeically once it was clear buddy and roughy were guns.

Would be happy to throw a late pick at him because I think he has potential. At the Essendon game last year he played the sole FF and kicked 4 in a half. No matter what has happened this season, that clearly shows he does have the talent that resulted in him going top 6 and is worth a punt for a pick in the 70's or 80's or a fringe player trade.

Thorpe is worth a rookie otherwise.

Have a punt on one of these guys because the both have the talent to kick 2-3 a game and be a marking option and at worst will add depth. Plus Dowler can play back.

McKinley I am not keen on at all. Jack Anthony would have to come very cheap...

Re: Tigers to trade for key forward

im not condoning taking dowler but, a perso must question hawthorns ability to develope the tall kpf they have had on their list in recent times sure sounds really strange with franklin & roughead but
both thorpe & dowler were very talented youngsters that have not come on & gets me thinking that perhaps they were so content with buddy & roughy that they insisted on either trying to force the other 2 players to become something diffrent to what they were and hasnt worked out.

if hardwick see's something in dowler to take him with a late pick i believe he has deserved the right to ''gamble'' with a late pick.

:thumbsu: this.

Reality is the Tigers will most likely be turning over 4-5 players at the end of next year as well. Pretty standard for the AFL. In this context picking a player who may have been poorly developed, especially with DH's inside knowledge, is worth the risk IMO. He'll know he's on his last chance in the AFL and if he doesn't make it we'll at least know he (should have) given it his all.

Re: Tigers to trade for key forward

As I said in an older thread, if we are looking at key frward prospects then Todd Grima at Glenelg would be worth considering. Didnt cut it at Geelong but has apparently turned it around and won the SANFL goalkicking. A spell outside the AFL and Geelong may have been just what was required. The kid could play in his early days for sure but perhaps some of the Sth Aussie posters know more?

Re: Tigers to trade for key forward

Ryan Murphy from Fremantle is another one worth considering. A Victorian Boy and former first round pick has obvious talent but can never seem to crack a game before Pav.

He's had finals experience and he has the big body to slot straight into the tigers team, would come cheaply to.

LOL

Please be joking...I'de be jumping for ****ing joy! There is absolutely 0 chance we'll get him for anything anywhere near that low. Opposition clubs will value Tambling at a 3rd rounder. The man is physically/mentally poo.

Re: Tigers to trade for key forward

Surely we would only trade for a KPF if there was real doubt about any of the current youngsters making it. In JR we have a star, and in Post, Grif, TV, Astbury etc we have lots of talent that could make it as a second KPF. Id' rather try and build for three years from now than be 'competitive' immediately. Only if Dimma knows that someone (Dowler) is better than his record would it be worth spending 5 cents on him.

Re: Tigers to trade for key forward

In JR we have a star, and in Post, Grif, TV, Astbury

Post - 50/50 and can play other positions
Grif - Incredibly injury prone
TV - Will most likely play ruck
Astbury - Will play CHB

Cmon Dr...seriously. Anyone who can't see the huge value in recruiting a speciallist key forward prospect is really kidding themselves badly..

Let's agree to disagree. Grif is a huge talent, but let's hope his shoulders stay together. TV is, IMHO, has real potential. He was a very capable KPF in juniors. Astbury can play KPF, but if we can make himour KPB I would be very happy - he is a great option there. Post has talent as well.

My point isn't that all is hunky dory. A good KPF costs a fortune, one very low 1st rounder, or two later first/second round picks. We need to strengthen the midfield more than we need another KPF. In JR we have the best young KPF in the game!! We need someone else to be a tall threat, if they are good then that is awesome. But we need someone to get it to them with quality more than we need another top quality KPF, that is my point. It's a cost/benefit equation. A top class KPF justs costs too much given the state of our list. I'd be very happy from the third round on with another KPF, in fact I would hope we go that route. But, the talk in thsi thread is for guys who will cost, I would be unhappy with that route.

Re: Tigers to trade for key forward

Anyone that can see the benefits of recruiting KPP who can play forward or back and can at times do ruck duties as well, who is about 21-22 and is ahead of our young KPPS in his development, should look not further than Andrejs Everitt.
Forget about any more "specialists" we have him at FF. He needs to have someone that can play CHF and our coach needs to have someone that can do that and more. At 21 going on 22, Everitt fits the bill perfectly for our list development. The end. ;)

Would be a contender for worst player in the AFL. :thumbsu:

Re: Tigers to trade for key forward

It's Dowler.

Hardwick always rated him very highly during his time at Hawthorn, and has been monitoring his progress this season at Box Hill/Box Hill 2's.

Dowler will walk away from Hawthorn at years end, due to being out of contract. You'll get him for chips, either via trade or PSD. Feel free to bookmark this, I'm not wrong.

Let me just say I've always rated him pretty highly myself, and I think Hawthorn have done him pretty harsh this year. Kicked 4 goals in a half against Essendon in Round 22 last season.

Will be a very good player for Richmond.

If he comes cheap, i would be pretty please in that trade.

IIRC he was also a massive richmond fan as a kid

Re: Tigers to trade for key forward

Hasn't Dowler been struggling in the 2's all year? Not a good sign for 22 year old with that much time in the system regardless of who's in front of him in the pecking order. Even as you said spent time in the 3's, that's delist worthy.

Big no from what I've heard/seen of Dowler.

Yes and no. He was forced to play FB in the Box Hill seniors, which, is just appalling given we know what he can do as the primary target up front.

it would be very hard to break into that hawthorn side but he's had 5 years and only played 16 games. not good enough for us. a step backward if anything.

back to dowler, maybe he really hasn't been given the chance.

Someone at Hawthorn doesn't get along with him, and it's so petty that it's become almost a grudge against Dowler. He's been held back since day one. He has talent, Hardwick knows this.

That's a tiny bit harsh really. Dowler was involved in a sickening car accident that completely shattered his entire pelvis. He had to learn how to walk again, football was a long way away in his early Hawthorn years.

Thorp was an arrogant w***er, but a very talented player. But, injuries crippled him, he lost so much pace due to not being able to train for weeks on end and thus, hindered him as a player.
