swans need tall fowards defenders i'd like to see them try for a boyle or lonergon and maybe matt egan but hed probly cost to much

HELL NO hes staying in Sydney
Soph...dw he wont go

he cant go!

you have the worst luck if he does :(

but hes come good this year, so thers little chance of us losing an emerging younger player when our squad is verging on many prospective retirements

Wayde Mills

Hopefully not in any way related to that talentless, musically inclined halfwit Rob "Millsy" Mills, Wayde Mills is apparently on the way out at Brisbane.
This bloke is, from memory, a big, mobile backman who had big wraps on him his first couple of seasons with the Lions, but obviously never kicked on.
He's only young, just turned 21, is he the kind of player, being a big (195cm, 89kg)defender, that we should be looking at? He'd hardly demand a big trade deal.

Don't stone me, just asking.

Re: Wayde Mills

He plays at CHB, I think he would be a great fit for you. Would add experience to your backline especially after Leo Barry retires. Needs gametime. With the emergence of Roe and Patfull, he just isn't fitting in with us anymore.

Re: Wayde Mills

Never heard of him, but we seem to have done okay with the guys from Brisbane :D

Because they are hot? LOL

This guy has some NSW connections too. I know his name has been mentioned as a possible delisting/trade, but it does seem strange that they are letting him go given his age/size/potential. This is not another "Craig Bolton" situation- the Lions no longer have a spine to be dreaded or an abundance of tall stars.

Re: Wayde Mills

Hmm, interesting. He seems like just the sort of player we would go after, given Roos' oft-stated belief that the draft can be a lottery when it comes to recruiting KPPs. Can understand the Craig Bolton comparisons, especially if there are NSW connections, though it's way too early to call!

Re: Wayde Mills

There is a reason he is not getting a game at Brisbane.

My response to that: Ted Richards.
Five season at Essendon for 33 games. Someone obviously didn;t rate him, and that someone has been proven wrong.

If you're suggesting Mills is not up to it, I'm not sure how you or anyone could have formed that opinion.
From memory, he was boomed before the 2007 preseason, but has barely had more than two games on the trot to make any kind of impact. He looked okay the couple of times I saw him last season, and I think had one reasonable game against us, but he seemed to be one of those players who get "scapegoated", ie, first dropped when things go wrong.
Whether Leigh Matthews didn't rate him, who knows. I just think, with that size and at that age, he's hardly used all his tickets.

And I can't see Brisbane asking too much for him.

No stones:)... but what reason do you have to think he is not required?

Can't say that I have ever seen him! But Swans have proven they are pretty good at shifting shit from clay since Roos took over as coach!

With Lynchy as Roos best friend... he would already know everything r'qd about every Lions player!;)

That is exactly why we don't need him we have Ted and he is no star but he is an honest player who gives 100% every week and is very important to the team but we don't need any more players like him.

We've also got LRT and J.White so we don't need another tall defender who isn't quite AFL standard.

Jesse White will be a key forward and don't worry, he IS AFL standard.
I think you'll get some argument here about Ted's "star quality".

And to Corp's previous post, the Herald Sun's season wrap-up of the Lions listed Mills as likely to go, and I read somewhere else that he's on the outer because Merrett, Roe and Patful are ahead of him in the pecking order.

WAYDE MILLS
Brisbane Lions

Born: 29 August 1987
Height: 195cm
Weight: 89cm
Recruited from: Southport
Draft Details: Selection #25 (2nd round) 2006 National Draft
Jumper Number: 25

AT A GLANCE: Another late starter in football who has forged an AFL career from an unlikely beginning on the sheer weight of athletic ability and hard work. Originally from Deniliquin and Albury in southern NSW. The family moved to Lennox Head, on the northern NSW coast, in 1996 but it wasn’t until 2001 that Mills took up football seriously. Yet by June 2005 was the Queensland U18 captain, relishing the physicality of the game and setting an inspirational example, and five months later was drafted by the Brisbane Lions in the second round of the AFL National Draft. Having begun his junior career at Tweed/Coolangatta, he switched to Southport to further his prospects and went down in football folklore when, for three months during the Queensland U18 captain in 2005, he lived in a caravan in Brisbane to minimize the travel. He played at centre half back in Southport’s 2004 AFL grand final side at 16 and was a key member of the 2005 premiership side. He played four AFL games in his first season and added 11 games in ’07. Ironically, he made his mark in his second season at centre half forward, where he transformed his defensive mindset to the key attacking post.

Re: Wayde Mills

Went over to the Lions board thanks to Brown Dog, this is what he said of Mills.

Massive engine for a big bloke. One of the most committed, dedicated and hardworking players going and it makes him the sort of bloke you'd love to see do well. Not overly blessed in the talent stakes however. Can take a grab but his kicking, and relatively poor ability to read the play let him down a bit.

Wouldn't need to offer too much to get us to bite, he's relatively superfluous to us in terms of what he offers. Could play a role for Sydney with the disciplined sort of game you blokes play.

Also said he was played at CHF but never really came to fruition.

Sounds a bit like the Brennan we have..

Re: Wayde Mills

Decent defender, can't kick. Is worth a punt, but I wouldn't be having high hopes on him.

One thing is for sure, he would do a better job than leo Barry and LRT.

Re: Wayde Mills

Mills' best attribute is definitely his motor. Some of you may remember he played on Goodes for a quarter in round 3 last year. He ran 10:12 for the 3k at draft camp. His problem is his kicking. He sprays them when kicking for goal and his technique causes him to telegraph his kicking around the ground. He is also a bit on the slow side.

We have tried him as a defender but he gets outbodied a bit too easily and beaten on the lead. He could almost play as a tagger but doesn't have the agility. He's not quite tall enough to play in the ruck. Where we had the most success was playing him forward (as a roaming CHF). He is a good mark and he straightened us up, but the problem was his disposal and he would generally try to dish off. It was not uncommon to see him finish a game with 3 kicks and 10 handballs.

He seems a committed player and he likes a bit of agro but if Sydney want him there are some significant weaknesses in his game that need to be overcome.

Sounds like we already have a Mills in Playfair.

Re: Wayde Mills

Plus don't forget we have Mike Pyke arriving for next season. Not saying he's going to play seniors in 2009, but we will have another big guy in the 104-200cm range who could possibly play in the ruck or up forward.
