Geelong, Brisbane & Richmond all strengthened their squads in the trade period but they are ageing lists too, particularly Richmond and Geelong. I know we say it every year but there will definitely come a point in time where they hit a wall and regress, Richmond it's already started happening, not sure they bounce next year with Hopper and Taranto i think they stay around the same.

Can't see Geelong being as good as last year, Hawkins having career best years post 30 is going to come to an end very soon, plenty of others close to retirement too, key players too (most on here don't rate our post 30 players besides Boak).

Brisbane are stronger on paper but it's hard to work out the impact of this Hawthorn racism scandal will have on them, i think it is actually a bit silly calling them premiership favorites with that still hanging over their heads, it will be disruptive.

Can't see Collingwood being as good as this year next year but they will be around the mark.

Sydney & Melbourne will be in the 8.

Freo are flying under the radar a bit, i like what they've done with their list and it's young and exciting. I feel like they are a genuine threat.

So that is 7 teams i've mentioned, they are all a much better than average chance of making the 8 and if i was to predict this early i would say that 7 plus port will make up the 8.

But i feel like top 4 could be up for grabs next year, not just sneaking in to the 8. We nearly snuck into the 8 this year and we were terrible. Literally all that needed to happen was Dawson missing that shot after the siren and Amon nailing that shot against Carlton or Motlop getting the easier one earlier and our terrible year was good enough for 8.

Defenders can keep going. Most defences are as good as the pressure up the field.

I'd argue Lycett and even Dixon are almost surplus to requirements.

I'm of the strong position, Dixon should ruck and if his glass ankles go, they go. Our forward line functions and is more mobile without him. His combative, strong, protective, it clears out our leading forward patterns. Provide Hayes another crack too if the bench is expanding.

We are all aware a knew KPD is the go, we can make do until we get one.

Our forward line is very strong even without Fantasia, midfield is now full of energy with youth that has experience under their belt, it's their time to shine.

Duursma, Rozee, Butters, Wines, Farrell, Bonner, Bergman should be able to take it to the next level, with younger talent in Sinn, Jones, JHF to grow exponentially.

I want Ken gone, but if the baby bombers can do it, the baby Hawks, I can't see why this talented team can't force themselves into the top 8 or 4.
Sounds like a lot of hopium to me

If only you knew about the Chad
Here's the issue. Chad went from being a guy who would walk around with a Port Magpies beanie on to being a pariah. Something has to have happened for that to change.

And in normal life you don't wake up in the morning and think I don't love the club anymore. There's always a catalyst.

I'm sure somewhere along the line something has been said and looking at his behaviour since my guess would be he was put in the apologise to the group situation that Hinkley has used so many times since to throw players under the bus and Chad hasn't liked it.

After this if Chad has called people cu**s or whatever who knows and everything has flared up.

If he's done a Chaplin and said that we are going nowhere with Donuts it just makes him a good judge.

I too expect Port to make the 8, but I strongly doubt we will win anything of note against teams with genuinely big key forwards while we have a combination of Jonas, Clurey and McKenzie as our `tall' defenders.
Probably, but we've gotten close at stages, if our midfield is dominant it may mask our problems.

Obviously some hopeful thinking, but not outta the realms of possibility.

People are overplaying the importance of another tall back.

Using undersized key defenders (Jonas, Clurey and McKenzie) works really well on most occasions. In the days of team defence you gain more by having a mobile defence than you lose by having greater strength in 1-on-1s. My guess, without going over the stats, is that opposition tall forwards > 195 cm have taken us apart once or twice a year.

The problem is that our undersized tall defenders are aging ang getting less mobile. The other problem is that you don’t want the one or two times a year to take place in a final- when the weather improves.

We lose more games a year as a direct result of the midfield underperforming. And even if I’m wrong, and it’s 3 times a year we get torn a new one by a combination like Hawkins and Cameron, that will happen on some occasions anyway good defences with at least 2 x 195cm + defenders.

Perhaps the point of comparison is WB. They have been a comparable side in the last few years and had Keath, Gardiner and Cordy all at 195cm or more. The issue is, how many more times did we get smashed by tall forwards compared to them over the last 2 or 3 years?

Dominant key forward performances are rare in the modern game. The occasions when they occur are more memorable, like the day Brown kicked 10 on us, but you lose far more games because of a underperforming midfield or forward line, than you do because Jonas or McKenzie are 8 cm too short.

Point is, failing to score Ratugolea is not the end of the world and we can win the flag without him. Sure, in an ideal world, we have a couple more 195cm + defenders, but Jonas will do a better job than Skinner. Size matters to a degree, but is not the be all.

In penis terms, a healthy 7 inches should be good for most jobs. Sure, 8 inches would be great but as Edmund Blackadder says:

”Most horses are extremely well hung, but that does not necessarily make them sensitive lovers.”

TODAY'S ADVERTSIER

Cripps didn’t rule out the Power again making a play for Ratugolea at the end of next season. “We will certainly follow Esava, we’d love him at our footy club, but 12 months is a long time,” he said.

“But it has been well documented that an area of need for us is our key backs, and bringing some players to the club to give us depth. “So we will certainly explore that and track Esava and see how it is in 12 months or so.”

Gonna be lots of tuning into the vfl for crippa then

Riley Collier-Dawkins has been delisted. He will be picked up as a DFA.

Be worth port looking at him

We've just brought in JHF and Rioli, how many more blokes that probably need minders do we want to bring in?
JHF doesn’t need a minder, he’s just a kid who ended up at a basket case. Let’s wait until what we see from him next year when he’s got decent people around him and solid role models / mentors.

Stack obviously has some serious off field issues. He’s also very talented, worth thinking about giving him an opportunity.

Oh dear.

That's as bad as C-Rowe and Ch7 continuing to report Port Adelaide going "all in" for a flag in 2023.

By replacing Amon with Horne Francis, and Gray with Junior.
FFS. Glad to hear CD slap C-Rowe down.

What did CD say?
