The Ken Effect is real.

Wonder how Ken would've done luring JHF if he was coaching lets say..... Fremantle. You reckon Rioli and JHF are going there? They came because they wanted to come to SA. It's like saying the Crows are a destination club because they've lured 2 Crows fans back to their club.

I'd find it highly unlikely that players and player managers aren't cognisant of the fact Ken is on the verge of being sacked.

Of course the players love Ken. Over a decade, he has handed careers to plenty of them who wouldn't have played many AFL games under another coach. For all but Boak, he's the only coach they've ever known. He's a second Dad to quite a few. Has he extracted the best from our best players? Has he schemed the best from our team? Has he delivered the best for our club? No, no, no. Give him another ten All-Australians and ole Hank 'Hayseed' Hinkley would find a way to stuff it up. "Gee, with all this talent and leadership, we're going to appoint three captains"

Dixon came here for Ken. Others have too.

It's not for home, or for growing up as a fan.

Hate him all you want for the match day stuff, but players have come because of him. Rediculous to deny it.
Of course they like him.

He's amiable.
He doesn't load them with expectation of elite performance.
He sweeps diabolically poor results under the carpet and never mentions them again.
He gifts ordinary players undeserved games if they get on his better side (and don't mind a punt on the dishlickers)..
He won't demand accountability.
He won't change the same old boring, treacle-slow, nondescript, flawed and unsustainable game plan, and force them to re-learn a new and radically modified style of play every year.

They love him.

But they'll never be successful because of those things.

And they'll never 'toughen up' and become clutch performers under pressure as a result.

I like how Dixon is the only one you named. Who else has came only because of Ken?

Players come here for money, opportunity, come home, want to play finals etc. and you think Ken is the reason people come here?

The players love coming out and playing for Ken, that’s why we went 0-5 this year or how about the weak performance in the finals last year?

Hinkley would make a good player manager but as a senior coach of an afl club his record speaks for itself.
I give him an F for fail.

Who cares. Being popular doesn't make you a good coach.

Dixon, who else?

1 player came here for Ken once, yet he's such an amazing lure.

Rockliff, Motlop, huge free agent deals from a club in the flag frame.
Ryder, a premiership favourite in need of someone in your position and you're desperate to get out.
Rioli, wants to be in Adelaide, gets a massive contract given his situation and picks the club that has holes at small forward.
JHF, wants to be home in Adelaide, comes to his dad's club, probably a club he would've been a fan of.
Burton bundled into a deal for Wingard to come home.
Orazio coming home picks the team that isn't the reigning wooden spooner.
Aliir offered a great deal to settle in his preferred CHB spot and play the role he's not getting an opportunity to regularly play at his original club.

Ken's probably a good bloke, he's probably someone the players like as a coach. This doesn't mean he is responsible, this does not mean that he can get the best out of our players. He's had 10 years to prove he isn't capable of taking us to the next level, and the concept that Mr Nice Guy Hinkley is bringing everyone in is such bullshit.

If Rioli and JHF weren't fully aware when considering the club that Ken will likely be sacked this year, then they're incredibly naive.

I think we make the 8 but thats it... and is that something we really need.

should be a soft draw this year. But we should be building around our youngsters right now even at the expense of a win or two.
We arent winning the cup in the next 2 years. build for year 3 4 5
Spot on! I compare the midfield where building

Think this discussion is pointless. Not many players switch clubs just for a coach.

Agreed Byron was a good example. Choppy imo was one of our best in 2004 and was a big part of the reason we won the Premiership.

PORT Adelaide premiership hero Byron Pickett was yesterday fined $900 by the Port Augusta Magistrates court and had his driver's licence ban extended for 10 months after pleading guilty to charges relating to a car crash in October.
Pickett, 27, was reported to have had a blood alcohol limit of 0.121 when he crashed and wrote-off his black high-powered XR8 Ford Falcon sedan at a Port Augusta intersection on the morning of October 14.

Port Adelaide coach Mark Williams has a big problem on his hands in recruit Byron Pickett. Pickett, who left the Kangaroos after six major up-and-down seasons, costs Port plenty - about $350,000 a season.

You have to wonder why Port pursued Pickett. Despite a full season of football, he didn't feature in the Roos' top 10 last year. It's been four years since we have seen Pickett at his best.

God, that's right. And Leigh Matthew even said in their GF preparation against us, they wrote him off as being unfit, a non issue. Then he wins the norm.

Dixon led the comp in contested marks in 2020 and was 2nd in 2021. This idea that he can't mark is a little weird.
Neither positions really reflect the truth.

Yes his marking is not as bad as people make out.

AND his total marks are inflated by how many times he is targeted inside 50 with our stupid game plan.

Irrelevant to what I posted, but sure argue with yourself
and you think Ken is the reason people come here?
I listed one who named Ken, you don't think there are others? You are in serious denial if you believe otherwise.
Who else has came only because of Ken?
You think Ollie would have stayed otherwise?
Who cares. Being popular doesn't make you a good coach.
As above, ignored what I said.
Dixon, who else?
You don't think any of those others you listed were at all influenced by Ken?

Like I said, absolute denial. We can hate on him all we want, but one thing he is EXCEPTIONAL at is being liked by those around him, be it media, be it players, whatever.... that's why he's still in a job. Absurd to think otherwise, it isn't just incompetence above keeping him in the job, he has to have some redeeming factors.

Don't forget his dish licker syndicate.

I think some Brisbane scouts were sacked after that game.

He won't be a problem Leigh, he can't run out a game.

I am just going to make it plain and simple.

Hinkley has not been held accountable for his 10 year tenure of mediocrity.

In two years, if he keeps his Head Coaching job and goes at the same rate, I think he will overtake Bill Stephens as the most coached games without making a Grand Final at a single club.

When there is no accountability in your job, you can be nice or horrible, it doesn't matter because your results are meaningless which is completely against the grain of what built this great club.

Yet you can’t name them.

You realise Ken was an assistant coach to Dixon at gold coast right? He already had a relationship with him and McKenzie, who we got as a delisted free agent and could argue he came for opportunity.

I’ll ask again who else? Because you’re only argument is “maybe” they came here because of Ken.
You think Ollie would have stayed otherwise?
If we were a winning team, yes.

Why didn’t Dunkley, Merrett, Neale, Dawson etc want to come here if players around the league love him?

Ryder - wanted out of Essendons legal issues and loved our indigenous program.
Rockliff - claimed he was excited by the idea of playing finals so chose us over Carlton and Lions.
Polec - money and home
JHF - Spoke highly of his dad playing here and having that connection here.
Rioli - we offered more money.
Lycett - home and money
Motlop - family connection and money
McKenzie, Lindsay Thomas, Jack Trengove, Mayes, Toumpas - all came here for opportunity
Finlayson - partner is from here is terminally ill and wants to be around family.
Aliir - opportunity to play in his preferred position.
Fantasia - stood us up the first year so clearly didn’t rate ken the enough
Watts - kicked out of Melbourne and wanted a new start.

Actually delusional to claim players only come here because of our coach.

  • Ken has been a good coach and is not scared of playing the kids.
  • Man management skills bringing out the best from your players is one the most important attributes a coach can have.
  • He has it in spades and has been a factor in getting players here, who had decided to leave their club and look elsewhere.
  • The players love Ken: we recently made two prelims and then had a shocker last year.
  • Six injuries in round one cruelled our season: Grey & the Arrow were not the same players after their injuries in round one.
  • Aliir Aliir went done and needed an Op: not having him available exposed our flaky backline.
  • We then lost our ruckman for the year and Ollie had heart palpitation problems
  • THIS YEAR with an easier draw and a little luck with injuries, I expect we will make the eight this year, maybe even another Prelim.
  • I want Ken gone; not because he cannot coach but because he has been here for ten years (time to move on).

He should be the club chaplain not the coach!
