Would include pretty much everyone who had surgery. Wouldn't be surprised if Murphy was on the list. Recovering from surgery and travelled overseas with his misses. Would only need to put on 2 kg on the scales and lose a kg of muscle due to not training to go from 8 to 12 %.

Every chance but it was Gibbs that was the biggest surprise.

At least their not coming back 'Bootsma' fat...

He was definitely in the 'fat club' after the break. He had just gotten married and let himself go so to speak. He said it was the first time he didn't really train in the offseason. Personally i think he should have been given a break since he just got married!

I would have thought he would be 'working out vigorously' if he's just gotten married ;)

Guys like ed shouldn't be made to drop weight if it doesn't result in better fitness / speed results. If he hasn't increased his speed then all he's done is reduced the amount of kenetic energy he can impart onto a contest. Therefore making him a worse footballer.
Ed wasn't struggling to run out games previously.
Just my thoughts.
Agree, if he just lost weight rather than doing weights to turn it into muscle - I doubt this was the point of the program. I think they would have flagged his fat to muscle ratio and put him in the gym to get rid of the fat, by turning it into muscle.

Have seen Ed with his shirt off...he's hiding that 12% pretty well. Ripped as bro.

Smith has so much x-factor. If he can get his head right and stay out of trouble we could have quite a steal on our hands from the 2014 draft.

He does doesn't he.
I was disappointed by his games last year as he didn't show the X Factor.
But I know it is there.
Saw it in practice games last year. Playing FP he had it on a string and was running rings around his team mates. Just lacked fitness when the real shit started.
What I think is important is he has mongrel too. That can be converted into effort and spirit. Throw in a renewed fitness base and the X Factor you mention, and he could fly in 2016, fingers crossed anyhow.

Agree. Sure I get one rule for all but I'm tipping the nutritionists run personalised programs for the players, the weight trainers too.

You're over-analyzing it. It's just some guy's opinion offering a different view to the majority on here. Read it, absorb it, disregard it, whatever.
I don't agree with him either. Just thought I'd put it out there as food for thought, so I don't really feel the need to defend his position or credentials.
:)

Not having a go, more just saying how hard it is to pick talent from local levels.

I played juniors with a bloke I thought would certainly make AFL, was a year older than Marc Murphy and had him covered in school footy (most ppls opinion not just mine). 11 years on, ones played 200+ games and the other 0.

Both prone to shonky disposal...
Hope Sam improves from last year's drop off (was it a real dirty day with his kicking vs Port @ MCG?).
That was the Adelaide game, I think it was he and Touhy who were struggling to clear from kick outs. I also recall him saying in an interview that one of his focuses was improving his kicking, so at least we know he's working on it.

Not sure shonky disposal is the term i would associate with Heath Scotland, thought his disposal was top class.

I don't know. The news around Whiley has been very positive but maybe the next few weeks will show us as to who from the fringes, jumps out.

Cripps could certainly do with another big body around him.

so thats your softer way of saying ....no?
