Hang on...

Do you not realise that video recordings of the game exist and are available for the public to view?

Suggest u take some of you own advice on this one and watch the video. The tackler did not cause the high contact. Most ridiculous free kick and report I’ve ever seen.

You seriously think that was a reasonable free kick?

Tackled around the waist, incorrect disposal, tackler lets go immediately to avoid a holding the man call. Tacklee has both arms free to be able to brace for the fall - he's not even slung, just let go

Yeah not slung. Must've been the wind that blew him from one side of Weidemann to the other.

Did you actually watch the video? Have a look at Weidemann's arms in the tackling motion. He lets go after he's already thrown Haines off his feet.

The dumb dumb had a fresh air kick that spun him around. It is stone dead HTB in literally 999,999/1,000,000 calls.

If anything he actually throws him up in the air. It’s not a dumping motion. This is the least dangerous tackle to be paid this year in either league.

So you do think the umpire's decision was correct?

Having watched video about 20 times now I still stand firmly with my call of holding the ball. Bigger, stronger player stops opponent from running away with the ball by executing a good tackle, lets him go immediately to avoid holding the man call, momentum of tackle brings south player to ground but he is perfectly capable of protecting himself with both arms, which were never pinned in the tackle.
If you see it differently, fine - but I do find it fascinating that someone would interpret that as anything but a clear holding the ball decision. The constant tinkering with interpretations of rules over the last couple of decades have clearly muddied the waters with how differently people can see the game now.

WTF? He grabbed him around the waist.
I see it as Weidemann grabbed the waist-band of Haines' shorts, and/or the bottom of his guernsey One hand each side, as if starting a conga line. No sling at all. To paraphrase bomberclifford Haines' missed kick brings him down.
I know the sanction is minor but on principle alone it seems worth appealing. Mind you I don't know if that's even possible. And if it is I'm sure it's more costly than $125.
But also worth considering is whether accepting this sanction weights any further sanctions Weidemann might receive through the season.
Funny how many straight-out umpiring mistakes the commentators called out during the game (4?). Far less coy than commentators on the AFL games,

FFS Jonas was rubbed out for a game. For what, breathing too hard on McDonald?

One game for Hunter. That must have hurt the VFL.

That is outrageous.. that was a great tackle ball and all cause the ****er ducked.. paid holding the ball.. **** if we don’t challenge that it’s a disgrace..

The games done

Hahahahahahahaha Jonas given 1 game for an absolutely outstanding tackle, a singular action, where the Melbourne players evasion efforts were what saw him stop and try to go under Jonas, which meant Jonas took him forward and down in the tackle. No secondary motion, no unnecessary or excessive action.

Incredibly poor adjudication.

I am not fussed about Jonas dropping out, but holy shit, you have to appeal that on principal.

Jonas has NO other option than to let go of the tackle. A fair tackle, which was fairly rewarded.
