Does it annoy anyone else that whenever Brendan marks it within 50m he just keeps walking facing the opposition goals and has his Air time. There could be a guy alone in the square and Brendan wouldn't know about it. FFS Brendan it's not all about you. Turn around and god forbid give off a handball t someone in a better scoring position than yourself. The only time i can remember was lst year Vs the Bombers when he marked and handballed to Stevo who was running past. Yes Stevo hit the post but if Fev can start to do that on a weekly basis we will start being a far more dangerous team

More often than not, Fevola will spark our team, the reality is, we need him to kick goals, he needs to kick goals for his confidence, if he's got the ball anywhere within 55m of goals I want him to go back, take his time, I'm backing him to slot it, he's paid to kick goals, let him do what he does best.

You answered your own question. In giving off the ball to Stevens, what would have been a certain goal to Fev became a behind kicked by Stevens. We saw in the game against Richmond, Wiggins mark the ball about 20m from goal & give a handball to Fev in the goal square. It wasn't a great handball, but fortunately Fev was good enough to take possession & quickly kick the goal, but realistically Wiggins would have been better off going back & kicking the goal himself.

We know that if Fev has the ball anywhere up to 60m from goal, he is a chance of nailing a goal. If you look at other long kicking players like Scott Lucas & Anthony Rocca, they will very rarely look to give the ball off to teammates when they are within their range. These players have a licence to go back & have the shot on goal because they are better than even money chances of doing so. In contrast, how many times do you see a player who has marked within range of the goals give off a short pass/handpass, only to see the recipient miss the shot on goal, or even worse, the ball is turned over & the opposition go the length of the field & kick a goal. It is not worth the risk.

If he turns around, the options he will see is Fisher,Russel etc... Id rather him go for a shot from 60m than pass of to fisher that is 10m directly in front..

Sad but true.

When Fisher kicked from that set shot and it went all of 35m I said that was it for him in the seniors.

Hit back immediately with a couple of snaps, but I don't know. His range is just so short.

Fev himself has stated before that he has a "License" so to speak if he is within 55 to 60, he can have a shot for goal.
I don't see what your problem is...... he is one of.... if not the best kick in AFL outside 50m. I would rather the ball in his hands than some others in our side....put it that way.
It is not him being "Selfish" at all...... it is what he has been told to do......
as he is known for kicking goals outside 50.

Whilst I think Fev is a freak with some of his one percenters and goals he can kick, I'm seriously running out of patience with his undisciplined acts and lack of team orientated play. Ratten and Sticks should put contract negotiations on hold and see what picks they can get out of this years draft for him. This draft is going to be a cracker and with all the draft picks for the new AFL sides in the coming years it may be our last chance to secure quality key position players and forwards inside the first 2 rounds. We need a 2-3 picks in the first round and at least 4 in the top 25. I'm starting to agree with what Dermi. was getting at the end of last season. Fevola is a leader and his selfish acts are not the right example to be displaying to our core group of young players. The Swans wouldn't put up with his crap and neither would have any of the great sides of the last 30 years. The Hawks of the 80's would have shown him the door years ago and Brisbane would of traded him south very quickly. His petulant attitude on the radio yesterday and his body language with the St.Kilda players was the last straw.
See you later Mr Fevola, good luck with another AFL side.

You say the Swans wouldn't put up with Fev's crap, yet they still have Barry Hall & Nick Davis on their list. Davis particularly has been a problem child for a couple of years now, yet remains on their list. The 3-peat Lions were more than happy to carry the undisciplined Martin Pike. It certainly didn't hurt them.

I bet when Fev was tearing Collingwood's defence a new one in both Round 4 & 12 you were cheering through every one of his goals, just like the rest of us. If you were, then you can't have it both ways. I would hate to think how we would be travelling this year if Fev wasn't playing. Certainly Fisher hasn't backed up his form from last season. Edwards & Hartlett continue to underwhelm most of us & Ratts wants Waite in defence.

You can talk about trading for draft picks, but we currently have a guaranteed top forward in Fev. Draft picks do not give that same guarantee. I get frustrated with some of Fev's on-field antics, just like everyone else, but forwards of Fev's calibre don't come along every day. You get him to a GF, in front of a huge crowd & I will almost guarantee he will kick a bag of goals for us. If you can find me a forward in the upcoming draft who is capable of this, then you might be able to convince me of the value of trading Fev. At the moment all I can see is a lot of promising kids who are getting talked up by Kevin Sheehan, as they are every year.

As True_Blue said,

Fev has explicit license to go back and have a shot anywhere from 0m - 55m out. From that distance he is guaranteed a score 99% of the time.

If he turns around and kicks it to what may become a 50/50 contest we may not get a score.

Eddie I would assume has the licence to kick any impossible shot.

Judd has licence to do anything he wants!

Ackland has licence to be crap!

NO
Beacause his options Fisher,Russell and Edwards can't kick oh and throw in Wiggo.

Fev is paid to kick goals. Why risk a spoil or a fumble from our less than reliable forward targets when 9 times out of 10 Fev will kick it through the big ones.

It always is and always will be the Fev show. Also the ball is in the best hands we have at the club when fev is kicking for goal.

i see no point in this thread!
fev is out no.1 forward, so he should be able to do what ever he wants, we pay him to kick goals and thats what he does most of the time!!

OK sure he can have a shot but i just wish when he is walking back to have the shot he would be facing our goals. It may only be 3 times a year but there will be a free player 10m from goal that will lead to a certain goal.

Wake up to yourslef mate - If fevola marks within side 50 then he should go back and do what it is he is paid to do - that is have a shot...

Part of Fev's goal kicking routine is to look out to the side for a better option just before he starts his run-up, maybe he never passes off because the rest of the players don't bother trying to find space when Fev is lining up a set shot?

If Fevola marks it inside fifty, he should have, and does have a licence to have a shot, no need to turn and look.

I notice Buddy does the same thing, maybe this thread needs starting over on the Hawks board, cause Buddy would miss..

Fevola's job is to kick goals. I don't know anyone at Carlton who can kick better than him. When he is 50m out he should have a shot. He can make the distance and kick straight. Why pass it to Fisher when he can't kick 30m. Fevola needs goals if he has any chance of winning the column medal.
Fevola i want you to be goal hungry because you fire up the team when you kick em from 50m +

MMMMMMY FEVVOOLLAA glad ur gonna be a Carlton boy nxt year

I like Fisher but his kicking has let him down whilst shooting for goal. Still can take that contested mark. I wonder what he might be like down back in defense, considering he is looking to pass all the time. And he has a huge motor and can run all day.

Fev should and will go for goals 60m out. And Eddy for magic. But id like to see Waitey up forward drawing men off Fev so Fev can kick bags of them with Waitey and Eddy chipping in. I still remember Waites screamer in the goal square against essendon on a rare short fev shot on goal few years ago at the dome.

Then you throw in Walker/Kroozer in the forward. Cant hurt.

Im glad 2009 isnt too far away now :)

is this a new medal that we all need to know about?
I have heard of a Coleman medal for leading goalkicker.

He is paid to kick goals..he is the best set shot at the club by a long long way..i don't want him trying to pass the ball when he is within scoring range.

Silly thread really when you think about it.

i think fev's a disgrace. he says he doesn't like all the attention about where he's going but he's full of it he loves it. he should have more faith in your club and just sign the contract, im sure yas will win a flag in a few more years anyway!

Fev to Hartlett....GOAL!!! Satisfied

Ok I admit that I first thought this thread was stupid, but Fev brings Hartlett into the game, gives him confidence, and sparks a 4 goal run.

Maybe that is a coincidence, but nevertheless, great work to bring Hartlett into it with his first :thumbsu:
