So are you or MUF suggesting that Xavs will drop Goss from the seniors to the 19s for the finals? They did this in last years GF and how did that work out for them? Goss is now an important player to the fortunes of the seniors and Gowers would not have a bar of it.

Really rate Goss as a player but team unity is more important than bringing in someone who has not played in the side all year. How do reckon the bloke who played all season and misses out would feel? In any event DLS have plenty of good defenders who could limit his influence anyway.

DLS seniors still not out of the race for senior finals but could not possibly see them even considering doing the same with T. Humphrey and Todd. Mind you another match-up between Goss and T Humphrey would be worth seeing. The De La boy has taken the points every time so far.

I would disagree with that. There has been some terrific battles between the two, and apparently they get on pretty well, however last game at the Dairy Bell against Humphrey, Goss kicked 2.4 (In a game where 5 Xavier goals were scored) and played a good game. Tom would have taken the points in the other two occasions they have played on each other, but not the last time Rooster!

Always look forward to the battle between the two though and they will both become very good players within the VAFA in a couple of years.

In terms of the game this weekend, I think the Xavs will be primed for it, a few players coming back from injury and should be a hot contest with the Xavs midfield just getting over the line in a close game. Xavs by 5 points. Iacuone, Hannan and Barry will be the difference.

Just wondering where your knowledge about the Old Xavs seniors is coming from? How can you say that Gowers "wouldn't have a bar" of dropping Goss to the Unders? Have you spoken to him recently? We all acknowledge your De La affiliation; and unless your willing to disclose the sources for your allegations, I think your information involving other clubs is hardly credible.

Knowledge is based on common sense Jarvid. I have no idea of Gowers intentions and have never professed to know the inner workings of Old Xavs. Didn’t know it was compulsory to personally check with the opposition club hierarchy before posting an opinion. If it is then this forum may as well be closed down.

What I do know, and this can’t be refuted, is that Goss is held in very high regard at Xavs (and that is based on what I have been told by various Xavs people) and that his performances throughout the season more than justifies his selection in the seniors come finals time. If the coach decides to do otherwise then that’s his choice. Will Tom Humphrey and Mark Todd play 19s this week? Extremely unlikely but again the coaches will make the call no matter what opinion you or I might have.

So is it my wording you object to or do you simply disagree with my opinion? I would be interested in hearing your take on this. Are you in the inner sanctum? Will he play seniors or 19s in the finals? I’m saying seniors. What do you say?

As much as we'd love him in the finals, it is pretty obvious he will play in the seniors. 30 goals and just outside the top 10 in the league.

I agree Rooster, you're quite entitled to your opinion and the majority welcome it, except for some of the garbage talked on here by some that act as if they're still in school.

Think you need to calm down a bit Rahul Jarvid

Stan the man - Much of the De La U19 Squad is infact still at school :)

Is that you Brendan? As mentioned I really rate Goss as a player so this is not a swipe at his ability in anyway. Opinion based on the 2 x U19 games last year and the Round 4 seniors game this year when they went head to head. Tom named in the best on each of these occasions. In the round 13 games they hardly played on each other and from memory Tom’s day finished early due to injury. Agree Goss played well that day. Think he spent a fait bit of time in the midfield.

These 2 might spend 10 years playing on each other. A player with the ability of Goss will no doubt have some wins but at the moment the De La boy is leading on points. Probably unfair to keep dragging up past results. Both terrific young players.

Not quite Gossy :p, Rooster (He spends too much time on facebook to be on here ), but a regular attender of the 1's and the occasional under 19s matches, more so last year. Read a lot on here but rare poster.

I didn't actually catch the Round 4 seniors game so can't comment, but i enjoy their battles as much as the rest of us.

Hot Off the Press !!!!!!!!!

News filtering out of HQ is that Old Scotch are on the brink of folding .........stay tuned for details.

P.S: nerf - You sir are a goose!:)

Turns out my spies were not that far off the mark………………

Scenes reminiscent of the Titanic …. People jumping off left right and centre ……… The image of Jack and Rose hanging on for dear life is always a tear jerker …….( Much like OSFC in A grade )

I think you will find we will be returning to Camberwell Sports Ground as apposed to K2 Stadium in 2012 not to mention we won’t be running down to Pulse Pharmacy for medical supplies in 2012 either……

Its been a pleasure gentlemen :)

Could it be that the sharks have found another aquarium and can travel when it matters? The thought of Xavs out in straight sets makes me excited, carn sharkies!

Xavs were very average yesterday. Giving the opposition 15 scoring shots in the first quarter is unforgivable. Outplayed de la for the remaining of the game after the first break, but when the game was there to be won the xavs were asleep. Few of their good players were down as well which is good and bad. Makes this Saturday super interesting!

Game this Sunday at Scammel Reserve, this is a disgrace!

and on a Sunday as well, why does the league put every game on at a Saturday and just change it for the finals, should keep it consistent as Saturday is the proper day for football to be played .

Can someone please explain to me how the two under 19 sides get promoted into Premier? Is is the winner from the North and South leagues?

In recent years it was winner of South 1 & North 1. With the different structure this year I assume it will be winner and runner from section 2 On that basis St Bernards and either Werribee or St Kevins.

Congratulations to Hugh Nicholson on winning the premier section best and fairest award for 2011. A great effort considering he played some games in the ones this year !

Congrats to Nicho... but yet again shows that the 'flashy' player will always win the league Best and Fairest... If I can recall he polled well last year aswell? Not sure how serious the voting is taken by the umpires....

I expect to see a post in the near future from Nichooooo claiming the award???

One for Rooster... who would you expect to go on and win the De La Best and Fairest?....

With all due respect MUF Nicho is more than just a ‘flashy’ player. He is good enough to play and have an impact at Premier senior level this year and if you saw the game on Sunday you would agree he tore your blokes apart in the first ¼. He was then thrown onto the ball when Xavs were coming back hard. When you consider his size it is a remarkable achievement to play seniors at his age and win a comp B & F. Believe he is eligible for 19s next year also although I doubt you will see much of him at this level.

In regard to our B & F he will go very close but has missed games due to playing seniors. I take your point about coaches and umpires seeing things differently and a player like Nicho will always attract the umpires attention however he is very good player in his own right.

Last year our B & F was a tie between 2 defenders - Tom & Ben Humphrey. From memory neither polled that well in the comp B & F as backmen never do but they were clear winners at club level.

Of course a De La player wins it practically run the comp. Julian Turner had 13 best and 6 best of field games, it will be interesting to see the round by round voting. I didn't think Nicho was the best De la player anyway. Small man's award

Thoughts on this weeks match?

Old Xaverians vs Beaumaris @ W.A. Scammell Reserve

Will the ground play its part this week? Who will it suit more?

Im sticking with Xavs... aslong as they wake up in the 1st quarter and not the 3rd this week they should be able to win this and have another crack at De La... Should be a cracker of a game though! Thoughts??

Those votes that are up on vafa website, are submitted by each team. either there team manager or coach, so whilst turner may get some browny points with the people sitting on his bench he clearly didnt take the cake with the umpires. its an award given by the umpires not each sides bench.

And Muf, this weeks games should be a thriller, although scammel is a shorter ground.. the wide open space and the deep pockets/flanks will catch xavs out. Sharks for me.
