It went down everywhere? As much as the US? News to me.

Objectively, US did better on inflation than most other developed nations.
Zanny Minton Beddoes the Editor-in-Chief of The Economist did the media rounds post their endorsement of Harris. Irrelevant now, but she made the best rational case in a social, cultural and economic sense for a Harris administration, it's kinda sad that the Harris campaign didn't have the capacity/ability to deliver the same message.

Mate you’ve no idea how dumb Americans are
I profer this take. How bad did the Democrats have to be for Trump to possibly take the popular vote, the lower and upper houses. I think that's the real thing. This is another protest vote. 2016 protest, 2020 protest, 2024 protest.

TOO BIG TO RIG

Well, I've refrained from commenting as much as possible in the interests of not jinxing things - but it is looking like a path to victory for Donald Trump is all but certain (New York times has a >95% chance now). I've been a nervous wreck all day fearful of what could come, but think it's worth saying this now to allow myself to relax and put this to the back of the mind.

First thing - you are all forgiven. The last four years have been awful on this platform. So much vitriol and hatred from certain posters here regarding anyone with a right of far-left opinion. It's been sad to see so many people, some good people, confused, obfuscated and conned into the lies of the left. I forgive you, and note that a Trump presidency will avail you of such forgiveness. Donald Trump has fought through smear campaigns, kangaroo courts and assassination attempts from his political opponents to be hear, back in the Presidency of the United States for the good of the world. He has fought for you.

Under a Trump Presidency I look forward the most to safety of women and children in the United States from criminal illegal aliens (and hope that his strong stance on immigration will wash off on our own electorate down here in Australia next election) and the end of war in Europe (and associated return to normalcy for the world's supply chains and markets). There are also numerous points of benefit for American citizens themselves, but they are less relevant to us down here in Australia.

I am optimistic that a Trump Presidency will unite us. With Trump's last term soon to be confirmed, I am cautiously optimistic that the extremely decisive rhetoric from the global media will alleviate. As Trump settles into governing the United States and there is an 'end in sight' for his opponents at the end of 2028 I am hopeful that we can return to a discussion of political leaders on a policy basis, on a character basis and on a competency basis. For 8 years we've been gaslit by the mass media that Biden and Harris are competent for the sole reason that they are "not Trump". I am hopeful that a less bombastic Republican presidential candidacy and a United States in 2028 which will have prospered heavily under DJT will lead to a much more stable, balanced and fair political spectrum for all.

Again, we all benefit from today and you are forgiven. Long live the Don.
You're right that theoretically we won't have to endure an other Donald Trump campaign for President ever again. Which is a strong silver lining.

And most of the damage Trump does will be to Americans (and Palestinians and Ukrainians). Since at least for the next year we won't have a Morrison-like moron who joins in tariff wars to our own detriment. If Trump rips up AUKUS, that would be good for us, too.

Someone doesn’t understand how inflation works

he's more pointing out some only take the news that supports their position.

don't think he commented on how inflation actually works....

Never seen a population wanting to fist themselves this bad

Empires raise and fall I guess just bad for us

I struggle with the words policy, character, and competency when applied to Trump after his last administration and the utter incoherence and incompetence of his response to covid. I hope your are right but I fear the Don unchained and vengeful is not conducive to good government, unfortunately it is conducive to a slide into despotism and a uniquely American form of Fascism. Project 2025 and Agenda 47 here we come.

Yeah a fair point, and one that I feared.

I hoped their strategy of trying to govern as far right as they could get away with wouldn’t bite them, and it has.

They could do genuine progressive policies and gone the Bernie route, they didn’t and it’s obvious the majority of the Democrat party prefer a Trump presidency to a progressive dem.

So a conservative neo con party losing to a wannabe fascist party basically.

This is absolutely a silver lining, I just fear for whoever is next - and Trump will be there every step of the way.

One thing I do hope happens is that Trump can be humble and gracious in victory. Good luck to all. Peace out

Oh, please, Australia's been voting for the double fist for decades. Santos haven't paid tax on gas in Australia in over a decade, at the same time as they tripled our gas prices.

The sky isn't going to fall. Sure, poor people will be slightly worse off and rich people will be better off, but US politics has been trending in this general direction for 50 years. Biden/Harris barely touched the dial.

Maybe the Dems will give up on being GOP-light.
