As an Australian with a passing interest in American politics, I just find the whole thing so draining. Whether you love him or hate him, Trump just being Trump sucks out all your emotional energy. I can't even imagine what it must be like in America right now and facing the prospect of 24/7 Trump coverage for another ****ing four years.
Depends on the media trying to ram shit down our throat 24/7 with little snippets of bias BS. Get ready for it. There's gonna be 4 years of pissing and moaning.

TOO BIG TO RIG

Well, I've refrained from commenting as much as possible in the interests of not jinxing things - but it is looking like a path to victory for Donald Trump is all but certain (New York times has a >95% chance now). I've been a nervous wreck all day fearful of what could come, but think it's worth saying this now to allow myself to relax and put this to the back of the mind.

First thing - you are all forgiven. The last four years have been awful on this platform. So much vitriol and hatred from certain posters here regarding anyone with a right of far-left opinion. It's been sad to see so many people, some good people, confused, obfuscated and conned into the lies of the left. I forgive you, and note that a Trump presidency will avail you of such forgiveness. Donald Trump has fought through smear campaigns, kangaroo courts and assassination attempts from his political opponents to be here, back in the Presidency of the United States for the good of the world. He has fought for you.

Under a Trump Presidency I look forward the most to safety of women and children in the United States from criminal illegal aliens (and hope that his strong stance on immigration will wash off on our own electorate down here in Australia next election) and the end of war in Europe (and associated return to normalcy for the world's supply chains and markets). There are also numerous points of benefit for American citizens themselves, but they are less relevant to us down here in Australia.

I am optimistic that a Trump Presidency will unite us. With Trump's last term soon to be confirmed, I am cautiously optimistic that the extremely divisive rhetoric from the global media will alleviate. As Trump settles into governing the United States and there is an 'end in sight' for his opponents at the end of 2028 I am hopeful that we can return to a discussion of political leaders on a policy basis, on a character basis and on a competency basis. For 8 years we've been gaslit by the mass media that Biden and Harris are competent for the sole reason that they are "not Trump". I am hopeful that a less bombastic Republican presidential candidacy and a United States in 2028 which will have prospered heavily under DJT will lead to a much more stable, balanced and fair political spectrum for all.

Again, we all benefit from today and you are forgiven. Long live the Don.

It's conservative politics now. They just moan and rail against progress. At least in the past they used to pretend they had an alternative vision. Now they explicitly state they want to go back to the way it was.
This is the paradox of the modern conservative - they piss and moan about everything, but they are petrified to change anything.

Senate is likely to become entrenched R control for some time - I don't see Dems holding all three rustbelt seats at this rate, and there are only two purple seats they could swing in 2026.

House is probably leaning R. So after all the chaos, not even being able to elect their own Sspeaker, pass their own bills etc., they still get rewarded - I really don't know what the lesson out of this is. Dems just need to embrace rank populism and go full clown show?
DonOld was right. It’s all about the ratings.
