FWIW new vafa president creating a big footy account and the Herald Sun doing a write up on Div1-Div4 recruits, what other nuggets does 2024 have in store? Bedford as the new mod?

All VAFA posters being named,shamed and charged with 'bring game into disrepute"?

As long as there are sections enough to cover multiple teams, what is the problem? (Apart from other clubs deciding it's all too hard playing against them and pulling a forfeit?)

As it transpired in 2024, there were six Thirds sections. Old Xavs won only two of these flags, and I'm told neither was easy.

So what? There is always a massive turnover in players in the Thirds. The VAFA has catered for this with in-season regrades where appropriate. You are worrying about things that don't really matter. Do you really think you can float smaller clubs to the top by telling big clubs they must size down. Or would you side with the VAFA club president who once suggested, (quite seriously) 'we need a draft'?

Sounds like the Thirds competition needs to be set up geographically or even separated into Premier clubs and Divisional clubs.

One thing is for certain - whatever anyone proposes, someone won't like it for whatever vested interest they have.

1 loss in 16 games and a percentage of 520 , so 2 loses in 2 years and stayed in the lowest grade , what don't you get !

My clubs thirds made finals in that grade. My clubs reserves made the GF. Honest to god, the Mazenod team that won our grade would have easily made our reserves finals.

Biggest growth in VAFA football is Thirds. Most teams have enough resources.

No provided umpires, no boundaries. Only need one timekeeper.

Water boys usually are players turning their jumpers inside out.

Not playing for sheep stations until the finals.

Clubs agree to shorten games if the numbers are low.

Fun had by all.

Let OX have 4 teams in separate grades. They lost 2 of the 4 grand finals.

We started 4 weeks late. Still were able to join.

I agree with a lot of these points. But the xavs thirds juggernaut is a disgrace, they only lost like 6 or so games as a collective all year, choking in 2 grand finals and will probably get to dictate where they all play - again!

Yep, its common sense, no offense to Max but premier B clubs thirds shouldn't be in the bottom grade, assuming the team is made up of ex u19's and left over reserves.

Yep, its common sense, no offense to Max but premier B clubs thirds shouldn't be in the bottom grade, assuming the team is made up of ex u19's and left over reserves.

Our 3rds were made up mainly of players who had never played with the club ( the majority coming from our Mernda campus) or over 30’s who didn’t train. No under 19 played in the team.

Only 1 player would have got a game in our two’s on ability (imo).

Our best player in the grand final was a 49 yo.

There was no left over reserves at the end of the season. Actually we had more 3rds than Reserves players. Every eligible reserves player played in the reserves prelim.

Also in 2023 they had 2 sides, their first side was struggling so dropped players to the bottom grade before finals and then with just one side this year, they stayed in the bottom grade!

Was a terrible call by the league and teams who win shouldn’t be able to say oh well stay down. Then to even stay down after the regrading was just poor by the VAFA.

But I agree with an earlier post about seperating division and premier clubs, the biggest issue can be the Premier sides are playing home and away and division clubs in finals making selection more difficult, or senior byes not aligning.

Season becomes too long.

It would see top 3 grades finishing the week of the AFL grand final.

It’s also rewarding mediocre teams a finals appearance.

Most clubs would likely agree. If so, is starting the season a week earlier a problem?
The mid-season buy could be staggered.
Such could be an uplifting new beginning for the VAFA.
Is HQ capable of organising such?

HQ isn't capable of organising anything from left field!

Talking with clubs with third and perhaps fourth teams at HQ should be a good idea.
Does HQ listen, or are they too UTS to listen to good ideas from the plebeians?
