Here's the official list of AFL-listed players eligible to play in our VFL finals campaign. Some pretty handy names!

http://www.sportingpulse.com/assoc_page.cgi?client=1-118-0-0-0&&news_task=DETAIL&articleID=20367882

Geelong players eligible: Jordan Murdoch, Orren Stephenson, Jackson Sheringham, Joshua Walker, Jonathon Simpkin, Nathan Vardy, Mark Blicavs, Shannon Byrnes, Tom Gillies, George Horlin-Smith, Joel Hamlin, Shane Kersten, Lincoln McCarthy, Ryan Bathie, Jed Bews, Simon Hogan, Jordan Schroder, Cam Eardley, George Burbury, Jesse Stringer, Travis Varcoe, Mitch Brown

That list is wrong. Kind of. Anyone can play in the reserves if the seniors are still going.

Correct, fpm's list is for if the seniors don't make the finals or get bundled out during the finals

With all AFL clubs still involved in the home and away season in the opening week of the VFL finals, VFL clubs can still access players who are not selected in the AFL.
But once the AFL home and away season finishes that access is restricted.
If an AFL club is involved in the AFL finals and its VFL aligned is also in the VFL finals then players not selected in the AFL team can play with its VFL affiliate.

Players who have played with the AFL Senior team of any AFL Club after July 1 of this season are ineligible to play in the VFL senior or AFL Victoria Development League Finals unless they have played a total of at least six senior VFL or AFL Victoria Development League matches in the same season.

So does that make Varcoe ineligble after this weekend (as he will play v Dogs) if the senior cats get knocked out of the AFL finals early and the VFL is continuing?

Now Varcoe missing out would not be a big deal, I'd prefer one of the kids or one of the VFL top ups that have played all year to be out there for VFL finals anyway.

It certainly seems to have screwed over Dawson Simpson however. Guy has played 2 AFL games this year, surely he should not be ineligible on the back of that? He is not listed in those names and presumably that is the rule why?

Surely there would be other clauses to allow players coming off the long term injury list to play.

Here it is in entirety

21.1 Players who have not played at least one (AFL or VFL) Senior or Reserve match in the relevant season shall be ineligible to play in the Senior Grade Finals.
21.2 Players who have played with the AFL Senior team of any AFL Club after the 1st day of July in the relevant season shall be ineligible to play in the VFL Senior or VFL Reserve Grade Finals unless they have played a total of at least seven (7) Senior or Reserve VFL matches in the same season.
21.3 Players who have not played at least two (2) VFL Reserve Grade matches in the relevant season shall be ineligible to play in the VFL Reserve Grade Finals save where immediately prior to selection, a listed player has missed through injury, at least ten (10) consecutive home & away matches of the VFL football season and his club remains active in the senior VFL Finals series.
21.4 Players who have played in more than eight Senior VFL Grade matches shall not be eligible to play in Final Series matches of the VFL Reserve Grade unless they have played in at least six matches of the VFL Reserve Grade.
21.5 Notwithstanding the provisions of Rule 21 when a Club has both of its Senior Grade (AFL or VFL) teams engaged on the same day, (or consecutive days) the selection of players in the VFL Senior Grade team shall be unrestricted, provided a player has participated in at least one (AFL or VFL) Senior Grade or Reserve Grade match in that relevant season.
21.6 Notwithstanding the provisions of Rule 21 when an AFL Club is still qualified to participate in the AFL Finals Series, all such AFL Club listed players shall be eligible to be selected for a team participating in either the VFL Senior or VFL Reserve grade Finals Series game provided that such player has played at least 1 game in the VFL Senior Grade or missed through injury at least 8 consecutive Home and Away matches of either the AFL or VFL Season.
21.7 Notwithstanding the provisions of Rule 21, should additional AFL listed players qualify to participate in the VFL Final Series, all such AFL listed players will be eligible to be selected for a team participating in the VFL Reserve Grade Finals provided that player has played at least one game in the VFL Senior Grade or missed through injury at least 8 consecutive Home and Away matches of either the AFL or VFL Season.
21.8 Notwithstanding the provisions of Rule 21, when an AFL Club is eliminated from the AFL Final Series on the same weekend as the VFL Grand Final, AFL listed players must qualify for selection under Regulation 21.2.
21.9 Notwithstanding the provisions of Rule 21, for a VFL Club(s) who do not field a VFL Reserve Grade team in the competition, AFL listed players must qualify players under Regulation 21.2 and must have played not more than 12 AFL games to be eligible to play in VFL finals matches.

Where's Wojo's name. He's played at least 6 VFL games this season?

He hasn't unfortunately.

Missed the early part of the year with injury, then got suspended in his first vfl game back which cost him a few weeks, then did a hammy a few weeks ago so he hasn't made it to 7 games.

Unfortunate as I think he'll miss afl finals selection so I would have loved him to go out with a vfl flag, but it's not to be.

Thanks fpm84 for finding this list-very useful.

Unfortunately with Simpson we played him in the GC game which was just after the 7th July. This was reasonable as they were trying to get him up to afl speed. They would have assumed that were he to be dropped from afl (as he was) he would have been right to play the rest of the vfl season out, which would have got him past 7 matches. Unfortunately he's since had more back soreness which means he's missed weeks here and there and presumably not made it to 7 games.

Really unfortunate as while I doubt he would have been considered for the afl finals campaign by MC anyway, he's missed a heap of footy and needs all the games he can get at any level.

If Wojo has played 6 VFL games as Russ says, wouldn't he qualify for VFL finals [if the seniors are out] tomorrow when he plays his 7th game ?

He would.

But they've listed that 2 Casey guys will qualify by playing this week but they have not listed Daws the same way so that's strange.

Add Troy Selwood, Dom Gleeson, Jaxson Barham, Andrew Banjanin and Andrew McLean to that list, and it's a pretty strong squad we've got available for the VFL finals.

Barham's injured.

Don't forget Corrigan though-he's a darn good player at vfl level.

Well those rules are tricky.
But i would think that both Vardy and Varcoe would be eligible this week.
Under this rule
21.7 Notwithstanding the provisions of Rule 21, should additional AFL listed players qualify to participate in the VFL Final Series, all such AFL listed players will be eligible to be selected for a team participating in the VFL Reserve Grade Finals provided that player has played at least one game in the VFL Senior Grade or missed through injury at least 8 consecutive Home and Away matches of either the AFL or VFL Season.
Am i right?

Vardy and Varcoe are eligible. They are on the VFL list of eligible players. I somehow doubt Vards will play again this year. Maybe Trav too.

Why? Umm.. yeah now i'm going for the bankers since the seniors lost. Hopefully we can get up this week vs Werribee. Is it on ABC1?

Vardy had one of those big knee/leg braces on him Sunday at Casey Fields. I doubt it was anything too serious seeing as though his played out the game against Freo, but if he's even a little bit off, I doubt he'll play and I would imagine they would take the same line with Varcoe. Pretty sure the game will be on ABC live.

I hope Vardy is not ging to be one of those guys who spends half his career looking the goods and the other half on the injured list!
