Re: Cats VFL vs Nth Ballarat

Drummmmmyyyyyyyyyyyyy! :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

Kid has been through so much, awesome to see him back.

Obviously he'll need a few weeks to get fitness before we can realistically tell where he's at, but great to see him back on the park.

Roj-Poodle Hunt is injured hence why he's not playing, and the other one got back in the senior side.

-I bring my camera to all the curtain raisers and no one ever seems to mind, that said it's a bit harder to spot than yours because it doesn't have a giant lens :D

-I thought Corrigan was injured last week. Am I mistaken?

Obviously Dawson's corkie is worse than first thought because he's still not back.

We'll know if there's late changes for the seniors by who lines up at 10.40 too :thumbsu:

Big game this week for Bundy, Vardy, Cowan and Brown who are all very close. Big week for Simpkin too now Smedts is gone.

Hopefully we can get a win-NB aren't anywhere near as strong as last year, so it's definitely do-able.

Re: Cats VFL vs Nth Ballarat

I plan to be there for the VFL game.

I hope, in particular, that the tall young fellas perform well.

Interesting to see Walker named at CHB. If he lines up at HB it will be interesting to see how he goes.

Vardy and Brown will also hold my interest. They seem the lads most likely.

Very interested to see how Drum goes.... If and its a big IF his body holds up he could be a really big bonus for our senior team later in the year and going forward

I do agree.

If his form warrants it it would be great to see him in the seniors.

That said, he's missed months of footy and fitness is more important than ever before, so I wouldn't expect to see him in the seniors for a fair while.

Agree, talls are our list weakness and it's what I want to see.

Vardy and Brown hopefully keep banging the door down.

I hope Gillies has a better game.

Walker at CHB is not surprising given we have a shortage of tall defenders-worth trying.

Hopefully Drum gets through the game unharmed.

Re: Cats VFL vs Nth Ballarat

I hope the Drum beats to a good rythym and gets through a full game without succumbing to another injury.
If he can stay injury free and find some solid form, he will add to the depth of the backline in case of injury, and could give one of the backman a rest later in the season.
Most importantly, welcome back Drum.

Look forward to your work each week RR.

Can understand the pros at the game feeling threatened :)

Re: Cats VFL vs Nth Ballarat

I can see you wearing 23 on your back before years end.:D

Nup...loyal to the JPOD proudly so!

Might get a 23 badge on my scarf if he plays well though ;)

Re: Cats VFL vs Nth Ballarat

Can someone please refresh my memory on Stringer's career thus far?
Picked him up from Port Adelaide Magpies as a rookie in 09...played his first game last week, missed the intervening time with a hip injury.

We took Jesse late in the rookie draft at the end of 2009 and he looked really good during the pre-season last year, only to be struck down by a severe hip injury.

He missed the 2010 season and it actually took right up until about 8 weeks ago for him to finally return to full training.

He's played the last three games in the VFL and seems to have come through those pretty well so fingers crossed the kid gets through the rest of the year unscathed and actually gets a chance to press for a spot on the senior list.

Our last selection in the 2009 rookie draft (no61) from Port Magpies, captain of Rostrevor College. Quick midfielder with good skills.

Impressed in the pre season, in the best in the NAB Challenge game v Richmond in Yea, then struck down by a hip injury and spent the whole year out with an operation on that.

Missed a lot of this pre season as well as they've been cautious with him, I think Sunday was his 2nd or 3rd game of the year.

Hopefully he can have an injury free year and press to retain his spot for next year.

Re: Cats VFL vs Nth Ballarat

Will probably head down early for the game, will be good to watch the young ones run around. Hoping Cowan, Vardy and Brown have a day out.

I cant say how happy I am to see Drum playing again. This guy can really play and if he can stay fit, and start to show his best he is a monty for AFL football.

Given a good fitness run and form, what an addition Marcus will be to Geelong.

Presuming he gets a kick ( lol ) check out his foot skills...top drawer. This guy has class written all over him.

Fingers crossed!

I have never had a problem at any AFL match with my DSLR camera. Admittingly I only take the 150mm lens to the games i take the camera to but they dont check any of it at the gate.

I actually took it to our NAB game this year at Skilled and was having a chat to security about cameras. I asked about what was allowed and they said so long as it cant record video you should be alright.

Excited about seeing Drum and actually being able to get to a game this year finally:thumbsu:

Cheers. when I went to JB to ask about lens' i was told that the MCG doesnt allow anything bigger than 200mm to 'G matches.. so was not sure about Geelong.. that's great to know about their rules but.. next curtain raiser i'll try and book a seat close to boundary

I also don't have a seat this year due to coaching commitments on a Sunday, so not going to get great shots from the free seats or standing area.. next Saturday i'll be back :)

i suppose it is possible that a 200mm lens is the limit but they might be a bit lazy about policing it in melbourne everyone at the polly farmer gate sees my camera but never looks twice at it.

I was in America all of last month and was able to get my DSLR in to Madison Square Garden for a Knicks game but had no such luck at Staples Center for Lakers and Clippers. This scenario made me ask myself whether it was the league's law or venue's law on photography?
I was spewing because I had floor seats to the Clippers.

I'll probably be more interested in this game on Saturday than the seniors. Haven't had much of a chance to see Brown in action, so that'll be good to see him strutting his stuff first hand, plus the form Vardy's been in of late and the return of Drum will also be good to watch.

It shapes as a very good side with plenty of hopefull's for us.

It will be great to finally get some sort of assesment on Drum as i have not idea of his capabilites thus far (although i'm aware it will take 5 or so solid weeks until he really regains fitness). Hopefully he can show us a bit to keep us excited!

Vardy and Brown...well i feel we will be saying these names a lot over the next decade! Good chance to go down and get a glimpse of what may well be a dynamic forward line combination in the years to come!

I'll give you a tip next curtain raiser, if you come in early in the Ablett Terrace and tell security you're there for the GA at the back, you can actually once they're busy come up the front. I sit in the reserved section and there's about 3 people at the curtain raisers, because no one bothers to turn up that early, so you can borrow a seat to take photos because most people don't come until near the end of the VFL. Worst comes to worst you can actually sit in the aisle and take photos, because there's so few people around at that time you're not impeding anyone.

Where's West?

Hasn't played for a few weeks now after being a pretty consistent performer in the 2's early on.

Someone posted last week that West has a sternum injury.
Dawson has a bad corkie, GHS a shoulder, Byrnes a knee and Smedts is gone for the year obviously, and Hogan indefinitely.

Can't think of anyone else we are missing.

Agree, I noticed the footskills too in his few games last year. They often used him for the switch crossfield kick so methinks they know it.

That said, he's missed a lot of footy so we've gotta keep our expectations down for a while, if he can play 2/3 of the game and get through, that's good enough for the next few weeks. After that when he's fit we can really assess where he's at.

Weston. Do you know what is wrong with with him PO?

Sorry, he's the other one I forgot.

Rabbi mentioned that he spoke to him at the Torquay game and Jack said he was about 8 weeks away. Not sure of the specific nature of the injury though.
