AFLW 2024 - Round 9 - Indigenous Round - Chat, game threads, injury lists, team lineups and more.
The AFL has confirmed the 2024 season dates for the Smithy’s VFL and rebel VFLW competitions.
Both competitions will commence the 2024 season on the weekend of March 23-24, aligning with Round Two of the 2024 Toyota AFL Premiership season.
SMITHY’S VFL
The 2024 Smithy’s VFL home and away season will consist of 21 rounds, with all teams to play 18 matches.
A competition bye will be scheduled across the weekend of April 6-7 when the VFL will take on the SANFL in a representative clash in Adelaide during the AFL Gather Round weekend.
It will be the VFL’s first representative game since 2017 and the first time the VFL takes on the SANFL since 2016.
The 2024 Smithy’s VFL season will again feature a Wildcard Round following its introduction in 2023.
Wildcard Round will see the team that finishes the home and away season in seventh position on the ladder play against the team that finishes 10th, while eighth will take on ninth. The two winners will advance to the 2024 Smithy’s VFL Finals Series.
Wildcard Round will be played on the weekend of August 24-25, with the opening weekend of the 2024 Smithy’s VFL Finals Series, featuring the qualifying and elimination finals, to then follow during the AFL pre-finals bye.
The 2024 Smithy’s VFL Grand Final is scheduled to be played on Sunday, September 22, the weekend before the 2024 Toyota AFL Grand Final.
The AFL can confirm the 2024 Smithy’s VFL season will again feature the same 21 teams from Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland who competed in 2023.
It's at 2:17:10-2:17:20 in the below video. Might have to watch at 0.5 speed. Sadly the cameraman zoomed out at the wrong time & the YouTube footage is quite blurry. It was on Cluch before they went into administration and the footage was removed from there. This vision was posted to YouTube but it's not clear. You can still tell how high he was though over a big pack of defenders, huge in context of the game too - a spot in the grand final on the line & this mark and goal brought them back to within 3 points vs the undefeated side with 4 minutes to go. A big game player who seems to like the big moments, he's 6'2-6'3 so not quite KPF size but he's super quick and hard to match up on with his athleticism, hard to think of a comparison amongst AFL listed players, I suppose because he's that in between size but glad he's having a crack.
Great to see Nev Jetta staying on, love his work.Bit of a list turnover

We had heard it was coming, but given he works and lives in Bendigo, the commute wasn't easy and so he has decided to stay closer to home.I'm out of the VFL loop..was this a shock? Where has he gone?

But he's been such a great player for us for a long time.
Yeah would be quite the travel. We were blessed to have him as long as we have, especially in 2023 when he could have chosen to play down there, but gave it the extra year. Can't Blame him for Deciding to leave so not much Stress of Driving to Bendigo and back Few Times a Week and During the Week after his Job Finished

I thought I'd seen that somewhere, couldn't remember who the player was.Currently playing in the NTFL for Nightcliff. Just had a 43 possession game. He will be missed in our VFL program!!
