My prediction would be that slowly but surely, the games in Melbourne would be whittled down and the games in Darwin would be increased...amounting eventually to a full relocation.
You just make it part of the deed of arrangement to solidify it. Kind of like the deal that sees the grand final at the MCG from here till eternity.

I'd suggest that's optimistic at best, maybe a little naive. A lot can change in 10, 20, 50 years. If the AFL turns off the tap, a club may find itself in a position where it's forced to step back to the VFL or fold. Might seem practical now, but doesn't mean it won't ever be.
A club in any location could fold.

You said “Victorians” need to decide if they want a National comp and if they do tough decisions need to be made.

I’m telling you “Victorians” will not make the decision to cull any clubs.

So you need to decide whether you want to be in this league or not. “Western Australian’s” need to make the decision to remain in this league or start up and join the national league

At the the risk of putting noses out of joint I think that North should look at a joint venture with the NT government and call themselves the Northern kangaroos.

Still play 6 or 7 home hames at marvel per year, buy a home game off the Saints and Dogs (NT government pays) and play 6 or 7 home games at Darwin (alternating each year between 6/7 and 7/6 split.)

N.T. government and federal government gets to fund a new 15,000 seat roofed stadium in Darwin (humidity problem solved). Selling it as more opportunities for indigenous kids, place for concerts, big bash etc.

North still have their roots in Melbourne but can open up a great indigenous pathways program in the n.t. They wouldn't play many less games in Melbourne than they do now with the Tassie games coming off.

Tassie comes in then Canberra take up the 20th licence (over 4 times the population of Darwin and a good AFL appetite). Another new stadium gets built (with a roof) on the light rail line. Probably 20,000 but would also need a roof.

Voila- 20 team absolute national comp.
That has been tried and it didn't work.

Better off merging two Vic teams. Have WA3 and NT / Canberra team come in to balance it when required. The comp will then get a really good look to see if the merged vic team disappears or if it becomes stronger than the other minow vic teams. A blueprint for the future or a one off only.

Northern Clubs + SA are currently getting some compensation for their troubles. Academies + Gather round. Time for WA to be thrown a bone too, just for optics. WA3 would actually go a long way to this.

Always get a laugh with AFL fans thinking their sport will stand still in time and nothing will ever change.
Like every other sport in the world the Managers and players will eventually highjack the sport. The managers will encourage their players to demand their worth which will get higher and higher.
I can see no possible way that a salary cap is in place in 30-50 years.
I see no option other than private ownership taking over clubs at the highest level.
Money will take over the sport as it has every other.
To think it won’t here in Australia is ludicrous to say the least.

The Northern kangaroos split Arden st/NT has been tried before and didnt work?

I was meaning a vic team moving interstate eg. Fitzroy merging with Brisbane. I think it would be even worse than moving a team with vic roots to a new state where AFL fans will already have another team. Give them their own team & merge two vic teams first.

I'd argue it did work. Yes they lost some fans sadly, but it did work.

They won 3 flags.

They have a good supporter base in both Brisbane and Melbourne. They are a successful club, and the Lions identity lives on.

Victoria tried to threaten WA that they would move a club to Perth if the WAFL didn’t enter a club in a. Expanded VFL. The idiots at the WAFL at the time actually got scammed as no VFL side relocated to Perth would have worked. The WAFL ran to join the VFL instead of holding out and here we are today. Stupidest administrators ever that ran football in WA back then.

Looking at average attendance both home and away, they track very close together both before and after the merger. In other words they both increase at the same time when they are good and drop when they are bad. That tells me that they didn't get any extra away fans from the merger and the only real benefit they saw was because they were suddenly winning as they absorbed most of another whole team.

It really is a flaw of the AFL to try and gift some teams a flag as a precursor to being successful. If the AFL just had a even and fair competition then it would balance out over time anyway.

You just make it part of the deed of arrangement to solidify it.

Yeah sure.

Go and have a look at the words of the Deed of Arrangement on the Fitzroy board, signed between the AFL, the Brisbane Bears and the administrator of Fitzroy.

Not worth the paper it was originally written on. Signed in 1996, broken by 2005.

Technically no, but they still took all the players and the mascot.

8 players as pre-draft selections. The AFL owned intellectual property, as it pertained to Fitzroy, was transferred by the AFL to Brisbane.
Hence why I'm calling it a failed concept as you can't move a team and expect the original fans who go to games every 2nd week to just accept it.

Many won't. Their future is 4-5 away games in Melbourne at the most.

And you called my post stupid

My post had nothing to do with how old clubs are. But for a Freo fan to bring in age of a club and how long football has been played in the area of Fremantle whilst arguing that Vic clubs should be kicked out of the league...

How did that make any sense to you at all?
Go look at doppleganger and the post that person has written

Darwin does not deserve or can sustain a team. Completely unviable. The population, very transient, is just over 130k. They are a bazillion miles from any other population centres, the weather is extremely problematic. Darwin is a pipe dream.
Agreed.

ACT or Canberra makes a better case. 500,000 people in Canberra. Also Canberra is near Sydney, Melbourne and even Adelaide

LoL please.

Like most of the WA whinging, just complete nonsense.

You stupidly decided to bring up how long football has been played in the area of Fremantle whilst arguing that Vic clubs should be kicked out of the league...

So its illegal for Freo and West coast to have 10 home games in WA as an Advantage.

But... Collingwood has 15 games in their home state at the MCG?

You dont mind facing Carlton and essendon and Hawks and Richmond Twice at the MCG each year.

Again.... your logic is flawed.

Yet, you would complain if there is a 3rd WA side.

What the feck are you blathering about.

This makes your last post look sensible.

I honestly think we should drop starting lineups down to 15 a side and get to a 22 team comp ASAP, new teams in WA, SA, and ACT.

Conferences.

A: 5 Vic clubs, TAS
B: 5 Vic clubs
C: 3 WA, 3 SA
D: 3 NSW/ACT, 2 QLD

Play your conference twice.

And as great as GR has been in SA, have it in WA each year.

So WA teams would play 11 home games in Perth, plus 3 away games in Perth and GR in Perth against a non-WA side = 15 games in Perth in year. 8 road trips. Maybe hub once a year to go down to 7 plane trips, surely one hub won't kill the family dynamic.

What advantage does a team like Collingwood get from playing Richmond at the MCG?

Your posts just keep getting worse.
Again... dumb post.

Are you happy playing tigers, hawks, carlton and essendon twice at the MCG?

Sure, its a neutral ground... but less times you travel outside of WA.

What advantage does Freo have playing Richmond at the MCG, on a Saturday night?

4-5 hour Fly in to Melbourne Friday.
Pre-game prep Sat.
Game Sat night.
Potential recovery session Sunday AM - 4-5 hour flight back home after (or flipped and recovery back at home after earlier flight)

Richmond v Collingwood at MCG on a Saturday night?

Wake up in own bed game day.
Coffee with misso / friends
Drive to game.
Drive home after game to sleep in own bed a few hours later.

If you cannot see the difference I would like to commend your assistance dog on typing your posts so well.
